Lakers Draft Jalen Hood-Schifino 17th Pick 2023 NBA Draft

Lakers Forum » Lakers General Discussions

Jalen Hood Schifino to the Lakers a shooting point guard.

So are the Lakers going to trade their pick?

no

The point guard the Lakers selected, they say he is 6'6" without shoes. So we can figure with his Kobe shoes on he would be 6'6.5" not bad for a point guard. Fisher of the Lakers was only 6'1" and he was a dam good point guard. Gary Payton was 6'4", and the one that I thought was really good for his height was Rajon Rondo at 6'1". So that would make this young man they drafted today a pretty good size point guard. He is stocky at 215 lbs, so maybe he will be a good future Laker.

Jalen Hood-Schifino aka JHS may well be able to step in as the starting point guard. Good size for a PG, and looks to be able to hit the floater consistently. Here are some highlights:

35 point game:

since they drafted a PG, no more DLO?

I do not think they will get away from DA because Hood is only 19 or twenty years old. It is going to take a couple of years for him to develop into a starting point guard with the Lakers. But they will bring him up slow just like they did Reaves and Christie I believe. DA is not a bad point guard, but he was not very productive in the playoffs, but then again neither were some of the other players who were good during the regular season. When you get into the playoffs the pressure on players that have never being in that situation is great. Just look at Beasley, Brown, Walker and others, they choked under pressure. But then again I can not take the credit from the Nuggets, they just played great against the Lakers. Just a better prepared team.

I know that many do not like DA, but I think we should give him a chance this coming season to prove to us Laker fans that he is worth being the starting point guard for the Lakers. He can also play shooting guard. He just needs LeBron to leave him alone and not scold him like a child.

LeBron should be the one that should be traded. I am sure he has some value yet and the Lakers should make the moves before it is too late and I am sure they could get a good two players for LeBron. And I say this because of his age. He will be really bad this season. His hay day is over.

Castleton if the Lakers signed him is great. That is a position I have been asking the Lakers to look for to help AD and take the pressure away from AD who does not like playing the five spot. Keep both Bamba and Castleton does not hurt to have two big centers.

I really was not that impressed with this years draft with the exception of Miller. He is a great player and the kid from France he will have to bulk up for the NBA. He is real small on the shoulders and a big center is going to bunch him around. He is tall, but there have been tall players before and some have not done that great in the NBA. Bol was like 7'7" and Gheorghe Muresan same height and were not impressive as far as I am concerned.

Ryan Kelly rebirth! I think the centers would be great if our “coach” decides to play them at all. We’ve had plenty of centers last year and none of them played when we were fully healthy. It’s baffling.

And going off your next post, I had the opposite impression of this years draft as far as the Top 3.

Wemby’s pure potential warrants the selection. He’s a little skinny now but I’ve never seen anyone at 7-4 move the way he does. He’s insanely coordinated and looks like a guard with the same skill set in a huge body. Will he pan out? Who knows? But if he does he’d be a once in a SEVERAL lifetimes player. He’s that far from the ordinary.

Scoot would be a #1 draft pick if it wasn’t for the anomaly that is Wemby. I’ve watched him play and I don’t say this often about prospects but I think he’s the safest bet to be a star.

Article from the Star Telegram.com says Castleton signing UDFA deal with the Lakers. So hope it works out as a pro.
