Lakers May Re-Sign DeMarcus Cousins

Lakers Forum » Lakers Rumors

Here finally is the answer to when players can be taken on and qualify for playoffs.

When is the last day an NBA team can sign a player for the playoffs?

If a player was waived by another team prior to March 1st, he can be signed (and play in the playoffs) up until the very last day of the season. Finally, NBA teams can sign certain players to their roster at any time between the start of the season (July 1st) and the last day of the regular season.

So as long as a player was waived/bought out by March 1, any time after until the last day of the reg season, he can be on the playoff roster. That's fair. What I haven't found yet, is if a player is waived by a team, can the same team re-acquire him for the playoffs? ie: Boogie? Tho yes D Rose would be more what we need. Any word on if he is looking to be bought out? I think for that to happen he'd have to bring pressure to bear.

This may sound ridiculous, but couldn't we have theoretically sent Boggie to the D league to sit on bench and recalled him when healthy? Please don't freak out. I'm sure it's a preposterous question.

He was taking up a roster spot coz he was on an active contract. Maybe now they could sign him to a "G" league contract? But anyways they had to void the contract to clear a spot. Since he was waived he can re-sign with us tho, by the last game of the season. I believe. And still be playoff eligible. I keep mentioning that here, and no one has corrected me yet. So I assume it's true? But meanwhile I guess another team can sign him as well. So there's a risk. Tho being a FA he's not forced to sign with anyone. Hopefully he wants to be a Laker and will hold out.

Also wondering, If we re-acquire him, do we retain his early bird rights again?

Boogie can play with Lakers again as long as they bring him back before playoffs start, and if they sign him back in the summer, they do get his early bird rights, but not until 2021.

So letting him go they lost a year of bird rights. But can anyways re-sign him. Let's hope he recovers by the playoffs and that happens. We'd have quadruple towers lol.

Thanks kk

No problem Shep, all though I honestly don't feel like he'll be back this season, think if he was anywhere close to being healthy enough to return, they would have released someone else. Hope I'm wrong !!!

Maybe a tactic tho, no? Make pple believe he's done, then pull a big surprise at the last minute?

What happens if we roll the dice on Dion? Have to release someone else. I guess the obvious choice is Dudley. Don't give up any shooters. I actually think we have lots of decent outside shooters. They're just not getting enough minutes. We've seen what they can do in a cple games when some guys were out injured. Should take advantage of that skillset more imo.

Articles suggest there is mutual interest in re-signing Cousins this summer. But that he's otherwise out fo the season. So no heroic comeback I guess.

That would be big if he gets healthy and the Lakers sign him for a cheap multi-year deal during the summer.

Let's say that we do sign him during the summer. I am curious as to whom you would all prefer to back him up at the center position.

Cousins/Howard

Cousins/McGee

Cousins/????

Howard has been playings great and has unquestionably embraced this new roll. I think I have my mind made up.

Getting healthy is the key. Staying healthy is the key. Can't we keep all 3? Smile With AD we'd have 2 sets of twin towers. One pair for the starters, one for the 2nd unit. Killa! That's more or less what Milwaukee has now. And their size is causing teams fits. Bring in CP3 and we're rollin! Wink
