Apparently it's at the request of the Pacers. Hopefully it would probably just result in nothing or a fine at the most- never heard of a tampering case that went beyond a fine despite the potential to lose a draft pick, etc.

Stepping back and being objective, I would not be surprised in the least if magic was guilty, but he's another O.J. who cannot be touched until he commits a second crime and proves the first accusations to be quite likely true after all. I'm not wishing this on him, but I'm also not going to say it's not true because I don't want it to be true. He's a say anything sorta person and I figure the only proof could come from George himself who is now in a position of power over Magic if so. If there is any doubt that George was promised something, in the same manner that Ball was promised (of course he was) the Lakers selection in the draft, the league will delay his coming to LA in next Summer's Free Agency making him perhaps too old to consider after the time penalty is over. This is obvious Lakers hating and maybe the league will take that into consideration too? IMO, it's Magic 'management' given that he's inline to own the Lakers too in the near future. Never assume that the person who delivers the message is the person who discovered the message! According to Dick Gregory, who died just the other day at age 84, Magic was gathering too much power after his 11 years in the league and was forced out of the NBA, by being made to claim that he had aids, versus whatever else that was clearly worse than that if he chose to remain. Gregory also claims that the same was true for Bill Cosby who wanted to buy NBC and had his reputation smeared rather than allowing him to accomplish this. Magic is popular amongst players but I would presume not so....

Tampering happens all the time in the NBA, it's just not policed. But when a team files an official complaint, then the NBA has to act like they are taking it VERY seriously, and that they truly care when they actually don't. Lakers are willingly handing over everything, and Magic is taking smiling pictures in Italy. They're not worried about a tampering charge. lmao.

That's not the point Pete. It's how the many influential people in sports and entertainment are utilized and not permitted to elevate to a point where they can become competitive on the ultra big stage. Shows only 1 thing. The Pacers are really pissed at the Lakers for some reason. First they gave PG away when they could have had a decent return from us. Simply to spite us, or to spite PG for wanting to come here and abandon ship. And if that wasn't bad enough, now looong after the fact (late whistle anyone?) they decide to bring this crap up? Mostly unlikely and false? And the league is taking it seriously? Talk about frivolous. Laker hate indeed. Or LA hate more specifically I believe.

If the league will again decides to intervene and grant the whinny owner of the Pacers the decision. I think in order to send a message to the league, they should boycott this season and let's see how this affects their ratings, jersey sales. Not boycott just float the idea to jolt the NBA, like an anonymous source, a rumor. Then the Lakers just plausibly deny the rumors after the NBA's damage control.

I didn't say what you said was false, just Magic will never be a majority owner of the Lakers barring a horrendous crash in NBA revenue which would have to wipe the Lakers valuation 500%.

They reported this in June when they found out what ever it is they reported to the league. It's only come to light in the media right now.

I don't know why people automatically assume it's Laker hating. The league must have saw something to warrant a full investigation. This is not the first time Magic has been saying stuff he is not supposed to say.

From what I've read so far. The NBA warned the Lakers after magics comments on TV about their behavior. Pelinka then talked with George's Agent. About what and exact dates, I'm not sure. But the investigation must have turned something up that was incriminating.

On another note wtf were the lakers thinking donating only $100k as part of the Houston victims relief fund? Individuals like Mutombo, Curry, Sandra Bullock and others donated much higher amounts.

What I don't get is that the law firm said that Pelinka had contact with George's agent Mintz. But, Mintz also represents Randle and D-Lo. Of course Pelinka has had contact with Mintz... he needed to tell him that D-Lo was being traded.

I think this was more or less a slap on the wrist and the NBA had to do something to placate the other teams even though this is thought of to be getting off very lightly and it is.

They most likely found emails and texts from Pelinka to Mintz talking about George. Which would be very careless on Pelinka's part. Read their statement, it sounds like they know they did something wrong.

I wonder if Mintz didn't sell the Lakers out as payback for Magic's "leadership" comments about Russell as he was headed out the door? Also, why wouldn't it be appropriate to contact an agent after you've submitted a legitimate trade proposal to assess their clients feelings on it. I'm sure this occurs all the time.

If this ball club owner Simon wants to file charges in court, let him do it, it is his right anyway. This time around the scenario in a court hearing is different from the NBA investigation. Each and every evidence that will be presented will be questioned, and witnesses will likewise be subject to questioning by the defense. Who knows, Lakers might find itself clean in this court case and might use this to refund the penalty they paid to the league.
