Took a lot of reading to dig that one up lol. I also read they wanted to meet with D Wade. Another possible carrot to dangle in the LBJ chase.

Definitely not the mentor Zo needs. Rose WAS a great player, but he was never a pass first guard and his play the last couple years has been subpar.
Rather they go after Deron Williams or Aaron Brooks at this point.
He could. But Rose I guess would be the "vet" the FO is looking for. Although I don't think he fits the "mentor" role at all. The only PG left to fill that true mentor role would be Williams but I doubt he would come to a team like the Lakers. He is at the end of his career and wants to win a title.
I say just role with this squad:
Ball / Clarkson / Ennis or Brooks/ Caruso
KCP / Hart
Ingram / Brewer/ Kuzma
Randle/ Nance/ Deng
Lopez/ Zubac/ Thomas
Thank god , did not want
^^^
Now they say LA is in a bidding war with the Cavs for Rose. As long as it's a 1yr deal, I'd have no problem with it.
I think they are justifiably concerned about throwing Ball into the fire from the git go with no good back up. They might rather work him into starter minutes, check out his confidence and make sure he doesn't get hurt. I think given our situation I'd worry less about mentoring, and just sign Ennis. The price would be right, he showed he's capable last season, and he's young.
D Will won't come here. D Rose will go to the Cavs, although then what was the point in signing Calderone?
I think the whole "mentoring" is just something to tell the media. There are no PG's available that can teach him how to pass better, he is probably a top 10 passer in the league right now. So a mentor would really just help him long his first NBA year all the end and outs of the gig not so much of playing the game. That Is a joke. We just need a solid PG so our team doesn't go bad when Lonzo sits.
Rose is by far the best back up PG left on the market. The guy avg 18/5/4 last year as a starter. Oh well if he can shoot the 3, then it's Luke's job to make sure and tell him don't even try. Do what you do best and drive the lane, we have guys who will be open on the sides.
I would love Rose as our back up PG.
I think the whole "mentoring" thing that all teams use is so over done. Like when Deng was suppose to do wonders for our rookies with his mentoring. Our rookies would of turned out the same way with or with out Deng.
Then again I read the Lakers can offer twice as much as the Cavs for Rose. And Milwaukee can offer more than the Lakers. Does it come down to money for D Rose, or being close to home in Chicago, or trying to win a chip? 3 teams, 3 possibilities.

I agree with that. Rose is 28 and so is still young enough. Players always learn from each other. One is better at this or that. Couldn't Rose work as a 1/2? Does he have to be strictly PG? If he could be more of a combo guard it might help keep him healthy. And tho he may not be a good 'teacher' for Ball, he can surely teach him some stuff. His best moves, whatever. How to turn the corner quickly without tearing your knees up lol. Stuff like that.
Mentoring can be beneficial... but it also pertains to off the court stuff. LBJ, Durant, and Westbrook all raved at how instrumental in their development Kevin Ollie was. You need a solid individual who will sign for cheap and know his role. Bringing Deng in wasn't the mistake as he is everything you would want a mentor to be. The mistake was the ridiculous contact they gave him to be a mentor.
Like Michael Jordan taking his time to decide where to take his talents..lol. He is lucky not to be playing in China. Lmao!!!

I agree with this. He was 18/5 last season limited only by his injuries and trying to
figure out the triangle on a confused team. He would bring a different look and
create match-up problems given the pick and roll, pick and pop approach of the first
team. And while the lakers are at it, if they are not concerned about knee injuries, I
hear Drew is lounging down in Santa Monica on the beach somewhere. ![]()
Regarding mentoring, Rose was the ROY so perhaps he's the perfect mentor to help Lonzo deal with the attention he's gonna get but not on the court issues. Lakers stupidly let Rondo go to the Pels who signed him for $3.3M! I actually agree with Magic that someone with NBA experience would be wise now rather than a locker room full of teenagers and upstarts.

And we used to blast Jimchak..for their fascination for washed up big names. Lmao!!
I would rather keep JC and sign Blue/Thomas(2way) and Ennis.
We have Lopez, Nance and the $18m a year mentor Deng.
Meh, Lakers prob just a bargaining tool... Cavs or Bulls
I would rather keep JC and sign Blue/Thomas(2way) and Ennis.
I don't know Magic, for 1 year on the cheap, wouldn't mind. 18ppg, 4 rpg, 4.5 apg isn't exactly washed up. Think bringing him off bench will probably keep him healthy.
How much of an upgrade is that over JC? Why did we get rid off Lou Williams in the first place? It's like punishing Jc all over again. Lol. Better to trade JC and then replace him with Rose if that's what we are trying to do.
He is a bonafide Ball stopper and would be a contradiction to what we are trying to accomplish out here. He is best suited for Cleveland as a back up to LBJ.
Fascination for numbers is quite amazing, since we forget the usage rate and the fact that he is a bonafide ball stopping, volume shooter.

Their big names costed more then 4 mil and were suppose to be starting. Rose is cheap and I'm sure we made it clear he is coming off the bench just like he would with Cavs

I agree and would be ok with JC as back up PG. but then our SG spot lack being any good. Why not let rose and JC play together?
Because one ball would not be enough for both of them. Lol.
Let JC flourish off the bench no need to cause more anxiety and friction. I would prefer someone like Ennis and JC together with the second group. Or let JC play back up point with Blue.
Man now I really wish they could have signed Rondo. Smh.
I Wanted Rondo to and I'm sure our FO offers him the 4.3 mil we have to spend. I guarantee he only picked Pelicans because he gets to start on there team. I read that Rondo is starting PG and Holiday is moving to SG.
We were never offering starter or starter mins.
Also his fellow Kentucky guy Cousins is out there. Smart move by Pels.
Some random tweets about Rose(circa 2017).
Agree, that has to be the reason he went there
I'm not sure what I think about Rose. In a more open system with no triangle will he
flourish as Back up? He presumably won't be expensive, and might be a great catch IF
he works out. Or we go with Blue/Ennis. Blue is undersized, but plays with heart and
some smallish players do well with the right effort. He's not a PG tho, he's a 2 guard,
and is even more undersized at that position. Still I'd like to have him on the team.
Can we do another 2 way with him? Or only 1 per team? The guy deserves a shot at the
majors. Ennis is ls a bit undersized for today's NBA tho. Even a bit smaller than
Blue. So if we get Rose we have to at least get Blue as well. It's only fair ![]()
And yes then I agree. You have to shop JC. I suspect what they'll try to do before the deadline when a team needs him, is try to turn him into a pick in the next draft, since we don't have one atm. And we don't need another player. I doubt anyone would give us that deal now. But surely someone would before the deadline. Unless BKN wants him to go with Russ. Let them have Deng at the same time. Tho I do wonder if Deng might not do better with Ball now. Remember Russ only got 3 asst per game, and didn't make anyone look better. That will change now. So maybe Deng will look like his old self again? Still we have the position covered and don't need him. Let him look good the first few months of the season and then package him with JC.

LMAO!!!!!
Honestly, I don't believe we're that interested in Derrick Rose as a player or as a mentor. I think this is a play to keep him from the Cavs. It helps further the narrative that Cleveland has 'struck out' again this summer and that the Lebron era is imploding there. This feels like a '3 moves ahead' chess move to land Lebron. Just my two cents. If we were interested in Rose, why is this interest surfacing now? This could be a Pelinka power move to line up chips more than anything. It's like an agent move more than a GM move. If that is true, I kinda dig it from that perspective.
Think interest now is because you can get him cheap with all of FA money gone. Don't think anybody was going to give him a big contract.

Well with Ball on team ,passing seems to be contagious. So hopefully it will carry over to regular season, with whoever is on team. Hopefully Clarkson jumps on board too, another ball stopper. At this point with what's left on market, not that much difference in who they pick up.
You cannot teach an old dog new tricks. Lol. I have more hope in JC buying into "moving the ball" than Rose.

Thought you didn't want Rondo !!! Lol
Make it 3 of us
So D-Rose is willing to back up Lonzo who will be getting 30+ minutes? I'd take him on a one year deal if that's the case. Why not?
Lonzo will probably get around 30 minutes maybe a little under. Rookies usually don't play more than 30 mpg.

Thank you Rose! Lmao!!!
Dammit there goes our "Mentor".......sigh....lmao!!!!!
Rose to the Cavs just made too much sense... especially with Kyrie possibly on the way out. To Boston? or NY?
Just read on B/R that LBJ is eager for Kyrie to leave now that they have signed Rose. Guess he really is the shot caller.
