Give Jerry West the GM Job or Give a Coach Power

Lakers Forum » Lakers General Discussions

Come on guys. Are the Lakers going to go for a "you do as your told and nothing else coach" or are they trying to win? I fear it's not the latter, but can only hope. Maybe it'll be Mark Jackson, maybe it'll be Luke Walton. I desire a coach who won't settle for less power.

Times are changing guys. I say give a great coach power, than give a less than great coach the job. The only way I'd change my mind is if Jerry West was to come back. Not his son, that many have coveted because they feel Jerry is too old for the job. That is B.S. Jerry is still alive and kicking.

Most, if not all, superstar players give Jerry West the highest respect. If he is not the next GM, then we need a guy like Jeff Van Gundy to come in and take over. This is my belief. I don't want another coach that kisses Lakers butt and coaches to the owners. I'm tired of it all.

There is no way West comes back as GM. He would need much more than that, and probably would need to have some say in the grooming of Ryan to be the next GM.

I actually like Ryan and think he can be a Good-Great GM especially under the tutelage of Jerry.

Is there anything to back up Jerry sweet wanting to come back? Or the FO even wanting to discuss this in any capacity? Or is this post just a wish of some sort?

Wish of some sort. I too wish Jerry was back but I don't see it happening. He has it too good with GSW right now. THE ONLY way I could see Jerry even remotely considering coming over is if he had full control as President and wanted to help his son Ryan establish himself as a GM.

West has already stated coming back to the Lakers is not going to happen. It's well documented.

Mitch is under Jim Buss and all basketball decisions go through Jim, not Jeanie. Mitch is basically the face of the franchise because Jim doesn't like the limelight.

Jim as we all know is part owner and is not going to just give up his power, once he cedes that title of Pres. Of basketball operations, he is NEVER going to get it back.

It's simply not going to happen. Jerry is not coming back, doesn't want to come back and will not come back. It's time fans stopped harping on about it and moved on.

Just a wish. It's no secret that there is bad blood between West and the Lakers. It essentially comes down to the disrespect PJ had for West. It doesn't take a genius to guess whom Jeanie wanted to keep around. Oh and guess who is Lakers president right now......

Also there was a money issue between West and Dr. Buss as well. I believed Dr. Buss promised West a certain amount of money and reneged. Not sure if all that got settled. Bottomline, West is a guy that stands behind his word and he expect others to do the same as well.

This is really a non-discussion. West has stake in the Warriors, doesn't want to be a GM anymore and would never replace Mitch! Move on.

How do you know he doesn't want to be a GM, and I don't think you bring him back as a GM, you give him Jim's job and a piece of the team. But agree it's not going to happen.

Because he's chosen for a long time not to be a GM. He's an old man that gets paid to be a "consultant". He's made it very clear that he's never going to replace his protege Mitch. Plus I doubt he's going to go through selling his stake in GS and then buying some in the Lakers. All seems far fetched.

And on top of that, everyone wants to "move forward" until all of a sudden they want to move decades into the past. Smh.

Yeah, don't disagree , but from all reports he's doing a lot of what he'd do as a GM at GS. Besides like I said above, I don't want him back as GM, I want him back taking over for Jim Buss. Than he can let Mitch or his son or whoever be GM.

Yeah, not arguing with you, just saying it's not going to happen.

Yeah unfortunately not.
