Julius Randle Summer Mixtape

Lakers Forum » Lakers Multimedia

Just found this on Youtube. Kinda old but it made me think...

For one, who the heck is this player!?

Why have I never seen these highlights!?

And why on earth would we ever consider trading him??

Wowzers!!

Julius Randle has a legitimate chance to be the best player from his draft. Big steal for us in my opinion...

I don't see him being better than Wiggins, expect to see Jabari Parker have a bigger role. Other than those two and perhaps Clarkson, Julius is definitely in discussion.

Yea trade that guy....No freakin way.

I am glad Mitch and company have resisted the urge to let him go. He is going to be the next great Laker.

Who said Julius had T-REX ARMS??????..........LOL!!!!!!!.....The boy is a BEAST!!!!....Julius, Clarkson and DLO have a bright future.

"Julius Randle, aka: a lot to handle"

"Dude, Julius is a BEAST!"

Words of D'Angelo. Julius is the next great Lakers for sure. MONSTER.

Any highlights I see outside of the NBA are always questionable to me. The level of competition makes a huge difference. Look up demar derozen high school highlights I thought he was gonna be the next man up from those highlights. Here he is as a middle of the league player. Now I hope Julius turns out to be this monster since we are keeping him, if not then I will be highly upset that we didn't trade him lol. If he does turn out to be this star that you all think then our future is bright with Deangelo, Clarkson, and Randle we don't know what nance and brown will be yet.

mice thought all along he could be the 2nd best player from that draft. But barring an injury, Wiggins is the man from that draft.

Other than Ckarkson?? You're joking, right?

I agree with you on the level of competition, but I gotta admit, I had no clue he had the overall package as a player as displayed in these highlights.

He looks like a legitimate Lebron here. I definitely underestimated this kids potential.

Lknight

watching the post practice interviews has me excited to watch our young team grow... first Lakers summer league game is Friday at 5:30pm

He has 2 unique abilities at which he will be the best in the league from the very start.

  1. He can adjust his shot while driving to the basket with incredible speed.

  2. He has a very quick second and third jump on the rebounds.

The agility of this kid is amazing for his size.

Did you just say LBJ and Randle in same sentence, HA HA LOL LOL LOL! !!! he looks good in video, let's wait and see how he looks against NBA competition. When he goes up against AD, Aldridge, Griffin, Ibaka, Z Bo.

Exactly my point thank you sir.

Randle has a 7'0 wingspan if I remember correctly so he can play bigger than his 6'8-6'9 frame. But he has a good handle and he knows how to carve space underneath the basket ala ZBo. Hopefully he did not loose any of this athleticism from his injury. Excited to see the Las Vegas summer league.

This guy is so exciting. He reminds me a little bit of Charles Barkley. Not as long or tall as most power forwards but super skilled, and strong as an ox. the way he just plows through people is impressive. Every player that guards him is gonna be black and blue after the game from banging with him.

He does not have 7' wingspan and even if he did the average is around 7'2 or so he has a disadvantage in height and length. I got my T-Rex arm comment from this article for anyone who wonders where it came from. This is his only downfall to me and why I think he could struggle, but if he is as quick as the guys are saying in practice he will be like a draymond green type player without the 3 point shot until he can work on that.

He does have a 7' wingspan, that is what was measured at the combine. Draft express has the combine measurements btw

http://www.draftexpress.com/profile/Julius-Randle-6294/]http://www.draftexpress.com/profile/Julius-Randle-6294/

a 7' wingspan hasn't stopped Blake griffin or Kevin love from peoducing so there is a precedent of guys with his size being extremely successful.

Also the term "T-rex" arms applies to players who have a wingspan shorter than their height. For example frank Kaminsky measured at 6'11.75(7'+ w/shoes) and barely had a wingspan 6'11 wingspan.

Hahaha man I don't think Julius Randle is anything these LTBer's thinks he is. Seriously comparing him to Blake griffin who is freakishly athletic and explosive(something Randle is not) and Kevin Love who has great footwork, and a great jump shot(something Randle is also lacking) You guys forget the things that make them great even ZBo as an undersized 4 is very strong. I hear mixed reports about Julius Randle and I don't believe the good ones or the bad ones either I'm a wait and see kind of person. Just don't like to get my hopes up about players.

6'9 & 7'0 wingspan is a disadvantage in height and length??

Apparently nobody gets that I was being sarcastic? It even says that Black was joking.

Randle will be a beast. And no I did not make that prediction from watching this video. But I did take away from this video that he is more athletic than I realized. The guy will be able to score, should be able to use his left hand as an advantage (like odom), is all around skilled; can pass, shoot and drive past most PFs. He is also a workhorse/hustle type of player on top of being very skilled.

I most seem him as a 1 inch shorter, L handed version of Chris Webber. Not quite as skilled, but tougher.

Went to draft express and compared Randle and Blake Griffin. Griffin is an inch taller and has a higher standing vertical but other than that they're basically the same build. They also happened to miss their first season, even though Randle has 14 minutes his rookie year (look out). If he can be a mix of Griffin and Z-Bo we'll be in for a nice treat. I'm trying not to get my hopes up too high yet, but I'm really excited to see what these rookies and sophomore players can do, especially Randle and Russell.

Nice highlights! Hope he plays well this season and is fully recovered from his injury.

hello to everyone ,checking in ,I believe in the lakers and we'll be back ,I am going to enjoy this exciting year

Yes that is a huge disadvantage when there are 6'11 power forwards with 7'2 wingspan. Why not read the article instead of criticizing me for taking the wait and see approach which is the correct way to go about things like this.

You guys kill me around here now he is a combination of Blake Griffin and ZBo? Like wow I hope he really lives up to you guys expectations because that would be wonderful! I even seen guys saying he'd be a career 22/12 guy do you know how hard that is to sustain? Shaq is a career 23/11 guy you telling me Julius Randle is Shaqish? Not Shaqish in just total domination but he'd be as consistent and as great as Shaq was? No way man where do you guys even see that at?

I hope he is a good no great player but the things you guys say before he even steps on the court is just ridiculous. I know so many people who hate lakers fans and I live in Ohio. These are the reasons why they hate us Lakers fans. I'm sorry but I am just a realist and don't like to get my hopes up I want to see action instead of someone saying he's going to be good.

Nobody said he was going to be Griffin and Z Bo. However if he can be like one or both of those players we'll be in for a nice future, which is what I originally posted.

First of all, it is not a disadvantage. You are not describing EVERY PF! There are PFs smaller than Randle and the majority are about his size.

Secondly, how in the hell did I criticize you?!?! It is very smart to take a wait and see approach. That doesn't mean saying he won't be good. That's not waiting and seeing. I happen to think he'll be very good. I'm not guaranteeing it. I'm not a prophet. But if I had to guess, I think he'll be a star.

And just because someone says he is a mix of 2 players, doesn't mean he is saying that Randke will be as good as Griffin & Randolph combined! Sheesh, that'd be the best PF ever!

The reason why people hate Lakers fans is because we can win 5 titles and still complain that we have the FO in the league. The reason people hate Lakers fans is because after missing the playoffs once, we acted like we've sucked for a decade and we will never be good again. We come across as the most spoiled fans in sports. Worse than the Yankees!

From everything that's come out of Laker summer league practice, it seems like everyone's raving about how good he looks. I understand the arguments about how he might not have the wingspan of some guys who play his position but a lot of guys don't have the other abilities that he presents either. They can't handle the ball the way he can. They might not be as athletic or as fast as he is. They're probably not even as good as absorbing contact and finishing at the rim the way he can. He holds aspects of his game that are unique and good enough to create a game plan for. I think he's going to be great and it's going to be fun to watch him develop along with Clarkson and Russell..perhaps even Upshaw and Tarik Black. Going back to Randle, when I see him play, he just looks like a Lamar Odom/Z-Bo hybrid and if he's anywhere in between what those guys are, i think we're going to be alright lol...

Dude read the article even power forwards his height have longer wing span than him. His wing span is short period and the majority of PF are not 6'9 the only superstar PF that is 6'9 is Kevin Love please name another one and I mean a Superstar like your saying you think Randle will be. As a laker fan I am hoping that you guys are right I just don't understand where you guys get your ideas and comparisons about the guy.. Sheesh..

I never said he was saying that he'd be as good as both combined I said he was saying he has combined skills of the 2 and I'm saying he does not. Summer league will help tell the story though let's all just stay tuned.

You're basing everything off of one article. It seems ever since free agency started you've been wanting to trade Randle at any possible chance, and that seems to be because you don't like his wingspan. There's a hell of a lot more that goes into basketball than a wingspan. He's a great ball handler for his size. He's a great rebounder. He has terrific post skills offensively. He can finish at the rim with contact. Those are the things that I watch and evaluate from game footage and the dozens of articles talking about his game and potential.

Why can't people think positive and have high expectations for a player and not be called out for it? I think Randle has superstar written all over him...maybe maybe not. But that's the way I lean now...

On the other hand fans who want to wait and see...nothing wrong with that either. I can respect that. Or fans who think he is just going to be okay? Fine...dont agree but it is a fair opinion.

Differing opinions are what makes a forum go...its getting to testy around LTB lately...we are all fans of the same team, we all want them to be great.

Go Lakers..

Wingspan matters when players don't have athletic ability to make up for it...What Randle might lack in wingspan (not much imo) he makes up for with quickness, ball handling ability and raw strength...all things you mention.

Wingspan for someone like Hibbert is huge...Wingspan for Randle while it would be a great addition to his game isn't that big of a deal imo.

I'm not hoping he is a bad player or anything I think you guys have me all wrong.

I believe I seen quickness in him he will have that as an advantage, but I still don't know about the finishing in contact and all of those things again bigger stronger bodies in the NBA then in college. In sure guys felt kwame brown was going to be great too lol.

Obviously. That's why there's credible scouts getting paid to project their talent on to the next level. Demar Derozan next man up? Well I guess that proves your scouting credibility. Just watching a freakishly athletic guy dunk and crossover little high schoolers won't give you a proper sample size. Evaluating talent from highlight videos are a mistake to begin with. Demar has not underperformed or superseded his expectations, he's where professionals projected him. Demar put up decent HS stats, against solid HS competition, yet didn't receive many accolades. Julius led his team to 3 state titles, played in Texas (top notch HS competition) and was in a neck to neck race with Wiggins and Parker for #1 player in the nation. He's a force. At 235-250 6'10", I don't believe there's another player of his size that can beat him in a foot race, nor lower their shoulder and bruise a punching bag. His mom was a former baller. He Is a Kentucky product (high success rate in the NBA) Well spoken. Plays with an edge/chip "The other teams that passed up on me will regret it." Those are the reason I strongly feel he will translate well. I didn't just gullibly read some SB article from a bitter JV scrub/varsity bench warmer who's only account of experience vs D1 players was in "practice" The short arm theory was completely shot down after the combine. You're the only one hung up on it. I think LTB would like a legitimate reason as to why you're so convinced Randle will not pan out. A link as backup proves nothing. His wingspan is fine, two inches longer than listed height does not qualify as "T-Rex" It is not even a matter of opinion so I think LTB would appreciate the trolling stop. Besides this article....

Repped (+1)

How many superstar PFs are there right now, period? Love, maybe Griffin. Who's the next best PF today? Aldridge?

The top 2 PFs in the league have a 7'0 wingspan and a 6'11 wingspan. Randle's in 7'0.

I forgot Davis. His is pretty good at 7'4.

So the top 3 PFs in the league are all 6'10. All of 1 inch above Randle.

Charles Barkley was 6'6. Karl Malone was 6'9. The best 2 PFs of all time. I just don't know where people got this idea that PFs had to be tall as hell.

The average height for NBA PFs is 6'9.5. The most common height is 6'9. So where are you getting your info that most PFs are not around his height? You guys are making this stuff up. It's all in your heads lol.

And people got their ideas and comparisons about the guy from watching him play. At least I did.

Hey, we do need a small forward...

Glad Ron is back mentoring the young squad, specifically Randle. We're hearing so many good things about him. I can't wait until tomorrow!

LakerBloodNoDoubt with the walk off ... $$$ post ... Repped....Dude is just finding reasons to hate

He's already shown impressive tools, so I'm optimistic about how he'll do in the NBA. I'd like him to work more on his finesse game, since he's more used to bullying his opponents, which may not work against some of his bulkier opponents. I'd also like him to develop his court vision, because many times last season, he was too focused on getting his own shot and not seeing the whole floor, which hurt him when he was collapsed on and had to force up a bad shot.

Don't think we have to worry about Julius handling the stronger guys in the NBA. Even in his older age, I think MWP is as strong as a player can get.

I really like that MWP worked out with him. Hopefully he will do so more, as I can really see Randle benefiting from him a lot.

If Metta says you're a strong player you have to be hella strong. Now hopefully when he drives to the rim he doesn't have Metta like results lol
