New Maximum Quotes Tags in a Post Feature

Lakers Forum » Lakers Topbuzz Announcements

Hey guys- I've introduced a new feature where the site will prevent users from quote a huge chunk of a previous post (now 60 words is the maximum between the tags) and also prevent posts that have 4 more more tags.

This should improve the readability of threads. If you run into any problems with this or have any feedback please let me know- thanks guys!

Ok Cool, I had a problem with it...but you made it clear! Thanks!

This should improve the readability of threads. If you run into any problems with this or have any feedback please let me know- thanks guys! Great intention, Dave -- but 60 words is barely enough for quoting "Previous Posts". That's only 2 & 1/2 Lines of text. Additionally -- this is going to be an even more serious problem with copying standard-size Articles -- as has already happened with me today. Excellent articles will not be able to be Re-Posted. To avoid "Plagiarism Issues", it is very important for all concerned to be able to post articles from outside sources as a "Quote". From a Legal Standpoint, it protects LTB, It protects you, Dave -- and it Protects He/She who did the posting. It's imperative that we are able to share these articles on a Timely Basis, as well. Two prime Examples would be my earlier breakdowns today of Caracter and Ebanks. The first Breakdown, I had Zero Problem. When I started to submit my second Profile/Breakdown -- I ran into a serious Roadblock in doing so, because of this New Policy. Another example is "LakerFan4Life's" excellent Article-Post of the "SLAM Article: The NBA's Only Female Scout". Good thing he posted it just before that policy went into effect. What a great article -- and due to the machinations of this policy -- this masterpiece of a story may Not have been able to have been shared. People come to LTB because it is often a "One-Stop Shop" for the latest and Greatest Articles, Rumors, & Ideas. If they are unable to do that -- this policy could ultimately have an Adverse affect on "Hit-Rates". Do we really want to open-up that proverbial Can-Of-Worms and Kill That Goose? I guess, the question of the day is this... All things considered -- Which Strategy....

I see your point but guys can simply not use the quote tag for news articles. I recommend just copying an excerpt and then link to the original article. The quote tag is used mainly to quote a previous post.

I will raise the words to 200, however, so hopefully it won't pose as any sort of problem.

A Million Thanks for raising the Word-Count Ceiling. You Da Man.

However, I would like to make you aware of the fact that the Blind "Quote Tag", utilized for "Outside Copy" Protects you, Legally.

I believe the "Quote Button" (Reply), of the two separate types of "Quote Tags" is specifically geared to Internal Posts, with the other, "Blind" Quote Tag functioning as it has for so long for the primary purpose of posting Outside Copy -- as, IMO, for the "Greater Good", and Especially for Your Legal Protection -- it really should.

Not only that, but Dave -- It's BAD SEO-Mojo to take people off of your site through Backlinks (Even if they're Relatively Temporary Links -- But that would, in fact, be only a "Perception", since, in the "Technical Sense" -- these Links are Never actually removed).

In-Linking = GOOD!!! >>> lol

Out-Linking = BAD!!! >>> Evil or Very Mad

Bottom Line: It suits Your Best Interest on EVERY SINGLE LEVEL to have the FULL COPY of every Posted Article on your site.

I don't like this rule.

To me, quoting the article not only clears up confusion as to who wrote the topic (Ive had members criticizing an article and thinking I WROTE IT), but it also makes it easier to read. Not to mention that when I try to edit/update the title of a thread, I gotta un-quote it.

BUT, rules are rules.

Well I certainly didn't mean to make this feature to impede- so this is what I've done. The maximum of 3 separate quote tags in a single post still stands, but now if your reputation score (positive votes minus negative votes) is 5 or higher, then you won't run into this limit.

Great idea, Dave. I really think that you're on to something, there. It may even evolve, and Refine itself over time. This makes complete sense.

Thank You.
