One game dont mean jack! If hes shows up like that when they play an elite team, then you can say it was good. We beat a team were SUPPOSED to beat.
Very well put tokes81. I think people get a little too excited over a short game span, let's see what his game by game contributions are before we say that it was a good trade.
The thing is, is he needs playing time to make contributions. Hopefully Phil gives him more playing time.
Ariza is still a young guy, 23 I think, and as yet hasn't played big minutes anywhere. So who knows with time what kind of player he could turn into over the next couple of seasons. But last nights game did show that he has skills and athleticism. And remember we gave up only players that were not playing and were mostly out of the rotation. Nothing to lose, but something to gain if he turns into a player. And if not, his contract expires next summer so we can sign him again or go and spend the money on somebody else.
exactly dude. ITS ONE GAME !! lets see if he can do that rest of season
I wouldn't get too used to Arizza being on the team. This is just my opinion, but I feel we got Arizza as a piece of a puzzle to a bigger trade. We saved $6mil by getting rid of Cook and Maurice. It looks like we are cutting salary to get a guy with a bigger contract.
yep.. i think that or we are going to just let him walk..
He's got too big of a contract to let him walk - $3mil. He's going to be playing a good amount of time over the next little while, it's called showcasing. We're getting him some playing time so we can show him off to other teams, let's hope Bird is watching.
when can we trade ariza?
He was traded on the 20th of November, and I believe he needs to be held for 90 days...so that'll make it very close. I'm not sure when the deadline is...
yea im sure its sometime in february obviously.. itll be close :X
Actually we can trade him right now, but only by himself. We can trade him along with other players after he has been with us for two months.
The 90 day rule is for free agents, and that rule is that you cannot trade a free agent after you sign him for 90 days or until December 15th, whichever is later.
hm
I think he will not be traded. The Lakers have been looking for defense and that is what Ariza offers. But I showed a lot more then just defense. He showed that he could make his free throws and offer some perimeter shooting. He is better then some of the slugs the Lakers had.
And who is the big trade you guys keep talking about. I hope you are not refering to Jermaine Oneal. I don't think that guy is good for the Lakers. He is alway injured.
We did not trade Ariza for his defensive play, let's get that straight. We did it too save and free up some money. I'm not sure why there are so many JO haters on this site. Did you see JO play last night - 30 and 11! I'll take him sitting out a couple of games to at least get some consistency and defense down low.
Ariza will get plenty of SF time behind Walton if Odom would move back to the PF position where he seems to do alot better. Screw "natural position" he has been practicing at PF for 3 years with the Lakers, stick with it or get traded for a better PF.
We have an Intelligent Triangle-Playmaker SF in Walton and an Athletic-Defender/Scorer in Ariza [hopefully]
Ariza and the Lakers NEED Odom to move back to PF. [or get traded for a strong starter PF...does have to be an all star, just a teams starter-PF]
Turiaf can be Odoms back-up, that would make the bench bigger and stronger, and still keep their fast pace.
I am not a Jermaine Oneal hater. I like everything about hime EXCEPT that he is always injured. And I sure don't want to trade the whole team just to get one player. He can score big, but we really don't need anymore scoring. What we need is defense.
I think that if Ariza can play well on a consistent basis (not spectacular, just solid) then we could see Odom slide back to PF, and when everyone is healthy, we will see Luke starting, Ariza filling in at the 3 behind him, and Odom and Turiaf at the 4. This will make the Lakers a better team.
You will still see Odom at the 3 when we play San Antonio and other teams that have a great PF, for defensive reasons.
The whole team? You'd be trading two players for him, possibly three and you'll get JO and another player in return.
Its true Ariza has a lot to prove against harder teams, but he showed us last night that he can make smart decisions on court both on offense and defense. He does not just give up the ball to Kobe or Odom because he is nervous out there. When he had the chance he slashed to the basket and finished well. This is why I say he is a keeper. I also like Artest and J Smith because they can defend and score as well but until we are ready for trades with other teams we better keep the strong defenders on this team.
IT WAS AGAINST THE WORSTE TEAM IN THE LEAGUE!!!!
Well, we will find out tonight against the Nuggets.
Because of the injuries to Bynum and Kwame, hopefully Ariza will get the same amount of playing time as last night.
ariza will be good
Well trevor did have a good game i wont deny that but it was against the timber who?oh the wolves and he doesnt really know the offense yet so i wont just jump onto the ship yet but i do agree he can he good for the lakers in a matter of time we will see the potential is there.
this is waaaaaaaaaaaaay to early in ariza's career with the lakers to say anything... brian cook scored his fair share of points on some nights and evans did everything on some nights, the kid has an upside but it is questionable whether he will ever come close to reaching his potential
Wow i can't believe it, my wish came through and the Ariza trade was good for the lakers. i just saw this after 5 years

Why do people keep bringing back all these old, out of date threads? WTF?!?
I don't know, but lakersbeans is going to get banned if he dredges up any other 2 year old threads with senseless posts again.
