Outside of my EDM craze, I've been dipping into the nostalgia tank and pulling up the oldies. My mom's family listened to a lot of American music over the radio in Vietnam and that's how she says she learned English. In any case, she passed on her love of 50s- 70s music to me:

Oooh nice! I've been getting into a lot of old school metal for the past few weeks as well, mainly Anthrax, Kreator, Iron Maiden, Motorhead, and Megedeth. I have to look into Napalm Death too.

Dude, I love both those songs -- I actually got into Tiesto with the "Elements of Life" album and He's a Pirate was the first single I heard. Siicckkk.

I can't really rank any one DJ or group as my favorite. It all kinda depends on my mood. If I'm looking to just rage a little bit and get some heavy bass going in my room/car, then I love dubstep - Skrillex is probably my fave, and most of the UKF dubstep artists. If I'm going to a big massive or something and I feel like getting stupid, I'd go with Swedish House Mafia or Dada Life. And if I want some EPIC house/progressive music to just get me caught up in the music, then Tiesto's the gold standard. Two of my roommates are from outside the States (India and France), so they've been into EDM for awhile, whereas the mainstream US audience has been recently growing. Fortunately for me, they've been sharing their music with me and my playlist is only growing

I don't think you can go wrong with any of the guys you listed. I kinda prefer Deadmau5 to Skrillex but both of them are awesome at what they do. It honestly surprises me that someone like Tiesto hasn't made it big in the US. He's song are perfect for clubbing; it's impossible not to get into a good mood when you listen to them. The guy is a demigod in Europe and Australia, but I don't really know how big he is in the US. Never really hear any Americans mention him when they talk about DJs. I really got into Tiesto with the Elements of Life album as well, but I've gotta say that I don't think he has a bad album. Then again, how can you go past Dance4Life, Elements of Life and He's a Pirate? Those three songs in a row are just amazing.

Yeah, I agree -- I've noticed that Americans just haven't been exposed to much electronic music. Sometimes a single from Europe will jump into the top 40s but the scene just never really caught on. I might be wrong though; it seems like the younger generation here is starting to pick up on EDM, evidenced by the steady growth of the Electronic Daisy Carnival and the Ultra Music Festival here in the States.

It's wierd, but I guess there's a much bigger hip-hop scene in the US than in Europe. I love hip-hop music as well but I'd love to see some of the best EDM guys get the biggest spotlight in the world (US) shined on them. Here in Australia, all the big dance songs in Europe end up becoming big hits here as well. You can't go to a club and not hear some new EDM tracks, which is just awesome lol. Good to hear EDM is starting to pick up in the US though, it's a fairly new genre that more people need to be exposed to I think.

thatguyoverthere, that band is f*cking awesome. Wikipedia calls them avant-garde metal...definitely not a genre I've ever heard of. Crazy metal riffs followed by classical string instruments and then a full voiced opera chick singing along to swing metal or something along those lines. Duuuuuuuuude. Epic. Getting their album right now. Where'd you find these guys?

Btw, Black Sabbath's doing a reunion tour this year. They're scheduled to play at Lollapalooza in Chicago. I'm not the biggest fan but I thought I'd let you know since you're a renowned metal head round these parts xP
