Every time the Lakers decide to focus on defense, it never works.
They play Defense when the Offense is fluid.
LA has always been an Offense Oriented franchise.
Marcus Smart won't make a diddly bit of difference.
Why they do not pick up Cam Thomas is beyond me...

He's not going to replace Luka (pending) or Reaves, so he would have to play the 3 position which is usually LeBron's (pending) domain.
Smart is a defensive 2, so I figure he's coming off the bench.
I think the rookie, Adou Thiero, is gonna get some serious PT!
I think the Lakers ought to have offloaded Klieber rather than Goodwin.
Smart is a casual, near meaningless gesture towards defense, like checking an item off of a list.
As I mentioned above, Smart won't make much difference at all other than an occasional dive on the floor to get the team fired up.
Why trade Caruso and Goodwin and KCP (and others) if the Lakers cared about defense?
Nice signing for sure- more defense is always welcomed. Hopefully Smart can stay healthy.
