Lakers to Sign Deandre Ayton

The first big move is here. Very good signing IMO. An inside threat like Ayton should free up Luka more. Thoughts?

Quote:
The 26-year-old big man is coming off arguably the poorest season of his career, tying a career low in scoring (14.4 ppg) while playing in just 40 games with Portland last season.

The first overall pick of the 2018 Draft, Ayton has averaged over 10 rebounds per game in each of his seven seasons in the league. He played a key role with his first team, the Phoenix Suns, reaching the NBA Finals in 2021, where they lost to the eventual champion Milwaukee Bucks in six games.

Ayton was traded to Portland two seasons later, which came one year after signing a max contract offer sheet with the Indiana Pacers (which the Suns matched).

He joins a Lakers squad focused on building around All-Stars LeBron James and Luka Dončić.

I’m happy about this. Clearly not happy in Portland after being traded from Phoenix, but I think he will strive here. Question is, will there be a LeBron.

Finally the Lakers got a true center to protect the painted area. I always liked the way Ayton used to play with Phoenix. He is not a perimeter shooter, but he can play defense in the painted area, block shots and score on dunks and layups. But the Lakers really do not need a seven footer to be shooting from the three point line, we have plenty of that type of shooters like Luka, Reaves, Vincent if he is still around, and I am hoping the Lakers will not trade Knecht. He is young and if JJ Redick shows that he is an important part of the team, the young man would excel with his shooting.

Now we do not know what LeBron is going to do, but he is upset because the Lakers would not extend his contract, which I do not blame them if they have any sense. LeBron is a freak of nature that he still played at a high level last year, but he is old for an athlete and could cost the Lakers for many years lots of money because of a bad decision. But I wish he would make up his mind soon while there are still some good players to fill up the holes on a Laker team. LeBron will not take a cut in pay to help the organization and really that is greed to me because he is already a billionaire. Best for him would be to go back to the Cavaliers with his son Bronny and end his career where it all began. Cavaliers are one of the better teams in the east.

What is messing up the line up you posted Sage is LeBron. He wants an extension from the Lakers which they will not give him, so now it is a wait and see if he is going to another team like the Cav's or is he going to hold the Lakers hostage to where they do not know what the next move would be as far as to filling the gaps. I am sure he is still pushing Jennie Buss who is still tied up with the Lakers in some kind of position, and I am sure he is pushing for the Lakers to start his son as the point guard, which would be ridiculous, but it is blood. Plus he will not take a cut in pay because if he leaves the Lakers, he will want his big contract to follow him where ever he goes. If he was to go some where else it sure would free up millions of dollars to where Palinka could pick up some nice talent to fill in the blank spots and give the Lakers a good chance to be competitive in this tough western division.

Ok Axel , now that we know what we know now, revised lineup
