Ain't no way Luka just got traded to the Lakers......I don't believe it!!!!
Time for Lebron to leave along with Bronny.
Is this madness true? Just when the Lakers found their groove the front office f's it up again?
"James' big night was quickly overshadowed by news that Luka Doncic is headed to the Lakers in a blockbuster three-team trade that will send Anthony Davis to Dallas."
I'd rather pair Irving and LeBron again, but his career is nearly over so what about the build around Davis? Are these people stupid?
When I first saw it reported I thought it was another one of those crazy trade proposal fake articles. This is super shocking for sure. You'd hate to lose a beast like AD and a up and coming all around player in Max Christie, but Luka Doncic is a legend you can build around after Lebron retires. Apparently the Mavs were motivated to trade Luka due to conditioning concerns, but he should shapes up, and this is certainly a shock to the system that serves as motivation.
WOW.
When you read the articles, it is a win for the Lakers...
LeBron MUST HAVE KNOWN about this... He must have been consulted.
The alleged reason are two:
"The Mavs had major concerns about moving forward with Luka Doncic due to his constant conditioning issues and the looming commitment of another supermax contract extension this summer," MacMahon tweeted.
Jokic hasn't lifted a weight in his life... Looks like he eats donuts all Summer long. Seems to be the way to be the best in the NBA when you are from Eastern Europe.
The Lakers included Max to Dallas and Shifino to Utah (Say it isn't so)!
The Lakers get back two more forwards, Maxi Klieber and one of the Morris twins, both who will be bench players!
Still a gaping hole at Center... until Wood gets back and brings 15/10 per game.
Other than a rare lob to Hayes and Koloko, Luka and LeBron do not have anyone to lob the ball to, which is central to the Lakers current success.
This will draw comparisons to when the Lakers were able to trade for Kobe, especially with Luka being only 25.
So who controls the ball now?
Does this quickly become Luka's team as LeBron fades or are they thinking about trading LeBron too given his value now and literally zero value later?
Luka and LeBron are similar players with different athletic skills. They both love to pass, so I suspect it'll work.
Reaves now a 2 guard again when he's been thriving at the 1?
Lebron is taking major exception to the rumor that he's grown frustrated with AD:
This is insane. Don’t get me wrong, I have always liked Luka, but there has to be more to this story. By the way, Luka is injured. AD was playing great basketball. I feel like AD asking for help at the 5 so he can play the 4 put a bad taste in someone’s mouth. Lebron? Management? Something went down because the trade doesn’t make sense.
Not particularly happy. AD was playing good basketball. I have always liked Luka, but this leaves a massive hole at the center position. I'd like to think they are not done making moves as the trade deadline moves closer (Feb. 6th).
Positives: Luka is younger than Davis and we can build a team around him when Lebron retires. Luka is a generational star that can help this team immediately fitting right into our offense.
Negatives: Luka's defense was a reason Dallas wanted to move on from him. We don't need anymore defensive liabilities. Luka has conditioning issues. I know eastern players are like that, but dude.... lift some weights. Now he's closer to In N Out.. That might be a problem. Luka is currently injured and we may not even see him for a while. AD is also injured so this negative cancels itself out.
Overall, I'll miss AD and Christy. I'll be happy to see Luka in a Lakers uniform.
Wish we could of got back lively or grimes also. don't really care for markeef morris or maxi kleber. but still glad we got Luka
Two emerging reasons that Dallas was willing to part with Luka are his lax training and occasionally vanishing on the court, plus the $350,000,000.00 SuperMax contract ($70M / year) he will be able to sign this Summer. That commitment, which now falls to the Lakers, throttles a team's ability to be flexible, and Dallas was concerned this was not wise for the franchise.
Both teams are better with this trade I must concede after considering the details, especially if the Lakers can find a Center. The Lakers ought to go after Vucavic, but who gets traded if they do. Trading Reaves would be a disaster... I also think trading Rui would be a bad decision. He's the team's stabilizer...

Most are ignoring the impact of Max Christie. The Lakers recent success occurred when he was moved into the starting lineup. His defense is impactful and he was frequently scoring 15ppg. With that, the lakers now also have a gaping hole on defense given Reaves and Luka. Showtime was never about playing defense and it still worked. The Lakers need a dynamic big, but nobody of this type, as far as I know, is available...
It is about time. This team was going nowhere, with two future hof’s. We were being held hostage by a 40 year old player and we were forced to pay his son who doesn’t belong in the NBA, a guaranteed 7 million dollar contract. We had no future and no chance of winning now.
FINALLY WE CAN MOVE ON!
Now we have to make sure Luka gets in true game shape and stay there. If not he’s injury prone. Similar to the way AD was.
FINALLY, FINALLY, FINALLY!!!
If LeBron wants to stay that’s on him. He has experience. However, we don’t need him.
FINALLY WE ARE FREE!
I didn’t like Luka and all his flopping and complaining to the officials but now that he’s on my team, I’m now a fan. At 25 years old, are you kidding me. We now have a future, if he gets in shape.
He has to get and stay in shape, PERIOD!
There is no if and’s about it.
He must commit to his health.
This isn’t Dallas. We as fans will not tolerate it.
It is mandatory.
If Luka does commit to being in shape, as they say, to the victor’s go the spoils.
He would have a chance to be the face of the NBA on the league’s premiered franchise!
WOW!
we need a defensive shooting guard and a center now
The only person that I will miss is Christie. He was just maturing into a great player, and then Pelinka trades him away. I did not like that part of the trade. Now as to AD, I knew he was unhappy with the Laker management because he had been asking for a big to play the five. Too much complaining I believe was the reason for the move. Even though Luka it seems is always injured. He is a very good player, but he plays the same position as LeBron. Something has to give there, and who is going to be the starting forward. I would have traded LeBron and his son before I would have traded AD because of age. Even though LeBron still amazes me at 40 still playing at such a high level, must be some great stuff that keeps him playing that well?
As far as to having players that can play the five, we have three. We have Hayes, seven footer, Kaloko seven footer and Jemison III who is big bodied at 6'10. They can use those three, but they need some playing minutes. Just being on the bench is not good for any player. I also think that the Lakers traded Christie because Milton showed he can play good if given the green light. He scored just as much as LeBron against the Wizard's
AD will be missed and he was playing pretty good without getting injured like before. I had already given him the nickname of Glassman. And now when he claimed a muscle strain on his stomach area, it brought back old memories of how he was always complaining about something.
I hope Pelinka does not trade Rui or Reaves. If he does, that would eliminate the Lakers from any contention of making the playoffs this season. And I do worry about that because they kept saying that the Luka trade was for the lakers rebuilding for the future?? Kind of crazy just when they have been playing really good, blowing away several teams like the Celtics, and Knicks. Only to come back and lay an egg on the 76ers..
Oh well Dallas got Street Clothes now , starting 5?
LeBron
Luka
Hayes
Reeves
Finney-Smith ?
Apparently this trade was so lopsided in the Lakers favor that the NBA 2K video game wouldn't even allow it lol:
There is no if and’s about it.
He must commit to his health.

Maybe the Lakers can trade LeBron for Zion and Luca and Zion can workout together? Hmmmm? ![]()
Personally I'd rather we kept Christie and gave them Reaves since we have Knecht. Just me though.
Here's a webpage with Lakers salaries including Luka.
Somebody please explain what is a Cap Hold and why six former Lakers players are being paid through 2028/29.
As I continue to think about this, I get a stronger realization of how bad of an idea this was. I think at this point, the only way it works, is to trade our father son duo to the Warriors to build a team around Luka with whatever we can get from them. We scrap this season and look to assemble for next season.
Management seems to be a vindictive bunch. AD asked for help at the 5, which seems to me, to be a very reasonable request considering that they won a championship when AD had two prominent centers to alleviate pressure and allow him to play a comfortable position. Instead of looking into that, they dump him in Dallas for Luka. I like Luka, but we have a massive hole in our lineup. Fix that with a center who is better than Hayes (Miles or equivalent) and we could have something here. If they plan on **** around, trade Lebron and build a team around Luka.
These people seem to be extremely vindictive and thin skinned. Not sure I like it.
This trade reminds me of when Magic called Jerry West at the Clippers and asked if they wanted Zubac. Now Zubac is not the same caliper player as Doncic or Davis but Jerry West laughed and said sure we'll take him. Glad Magic is not in the FO anymore....lol.
Funny how most people on this site are killing the FO for this trade, yet almost everyone else is killing the Mavericks for the trade saying we fleeced them. Hell, even the Mavs' fans held a protest yesterday with a mock funeral because they traded away Luka.
I like the trade, but I am worried what Pelinka will do next since a lot of Laker fans still are pushing for a center. We have three that can play the center position. But even if Pelinka decides they want the center from the Jazz. We know Danny Ainge and he was a die hard Celtic, so we should all know he will want to fleece the good Laker players that we have. He will want Reaves, Knecht, plus number one draft picks. Before trading away Rui, Hayes, Vincent etc. Lets see how this team does without anymore trades. Don't get all crazy and give away what JJ has put together. I guess they are not as bad as some think, they have been winning with impressive numbers.
Now some suggest LeBron and his kid to be traded to the Warriors. LeBron already told the front office to forget trading him, that he has a no trade clause in his contract. And for sure he does not want Bronny shipped anywhere. Even though the kid is not an NBA player worth anything yet.
Stay pat for know, the Lakers have already picked some pretty good players. I really like Finney Smith and Milton. The AD for Luka was a good trade. I do not know much about the two that were sent with Luka, but I would not worry too much on searching for a five and giving too much of what the Lakers have already gotten to play as a team. Laker haters would like the team to break up now and start the rebuild. The NBA was shocked at the trade and worried that the Lakers might get another championship team.
The trade mandates additional trades.
If Luka and LeBron score 80ppg combined for the rest of the season, the Lakers still lose.
They are both ball dominant so it will be closer to 55-60 unless LeBron concedes.
What is Dwight Howard doing right now? Playing with 4 foot tall girls in Taiwan!
Who will handle the penetration after the front lines have been breeched?
LeBron said this just the other day. AD cleans up for ALL of us which is why they kept him at the 5!
Trading Dwight and McGee in 2021 / 2022 was incredibly stupid unless somebody was trying to hurt this team.
Hayes is a dud and is favorable maybe 10% of his time on the court so a commitment must be made with the other two centers though preferably they must acquire a bruiser like Stephen Adams or Hartenstein.
Will hyper offense be enough? It's not working in Golden State...
The Lakers must get a defensive brute and that's not Vucevic unfortunately.
This trade for now is like a beautiful women with missing front teeth
I like Vando and DFS on for our defense. Our problem the last few years (besides our head coach) was that we didn't have any perimeter defenders. There is no replacing AD all around, but I will take Robert Williams from Portland for a first-round pick swap or Claxton for a second and a swap.
Most people around the league are expecting LeBron to leave to Golden State.
To get back Kuminga (Future All Star), Payton (Perimeter Defense with Showtime Athleticism), Looney (the Brute) - (Waive Hayes, Milton and Morris) plus a First Round pick to replace the one given the Dallas, and getting LeBron off the books while expanding the Lakers core built from those who Golden State has relied upon for years... Bye Bye LeBron!
The Lakers do not win this year, but they have a core to build upon and a Summer to find a suitable center. There' no remaining pressure to win for LeBron either! Next season would be a farewell tour and a throwaway season similar to Kobe's if LeBron stays.
Axel, we do have centers, but they are not very good. I think our best is Wood and I’d like to see what he can contribute once healthy. I do agree that trading for one only makes sense if we absolutely DO NOT give up too much. Giving away Reeves is off the table for me. I’d be okay with Hachimura or Knecht if it was for someone like Kessler. I wouldn’t give up too much for Miles….
I do worry about how effective Reeves will be now that the ball will be out of his hands. He’s been playing great basketball.
Both Luka and LeBron are good passers, especially Luka. So JJ will have to get these two guys to distribute the wealth on offense. If they share the ball they will be unbeatable. Use Rui and Reaves in the offense. They both can make the three point shot, and they both can drive for lay ups or dunks. The day of the big center for offense in the painted area is not very common since the league went more for the three point shooters. You get some good three point shooters and it has to bring the defense out of the painted area. About the only two that I know off that still use the big in the painted area for offense are the Nuggets and Gobert. But I also noticed that they are not very effective if they get doubled right away and either make him pass the ball or he loses the ball.
I think the Lakers will be just fine with what we have, Keeping players that can shoot good, the defense will get confused because you just do not know who is going to shoot next. They all can hurt them. Every Laker has to play tough defense stay right on the shooters faces and if they are exceptionally good, double them and make them pass the ball.
I really do not want to lose Knecht or Reaves. I also like Milton. But LeBron and Luka will have to share the ball with everybody in the group. Coaches have to emphasize that it is a team game, not a two man game.
I’ve read articles that mention that the possibility of signing a Luka extension could be an issue. Does anyone know when he is eligible for free agency? This smells of the original Dwight Howard signing.
Why the **** we give up Knecht!!!!...Bullshyt!!!!
