Westbrook Must Go

Lakers Forum » Lakers General Discussions
I’m done with Russell Westbrook, and I have been for quite some time. Look, guys, it’s obvious that the “Big 3” experiment has been an unmitigated failure, and while the injuries to AD and LeBron are a big reason for mountain of losses this season, the dynamic between our 3 hall of fame starters doesn’t work mainly because of Westbrook. The team seems more often worse when Russell Westbrook is on the floor. He’s a brick machine, a turnover machine, and oftentimes a liability on defense. Russell Westbrook is not a winner, and he really hasn’t been a winner for much of his career. He only went to the Finals once because he had KD and Harden on his team way back when. It’s obvious that he’s lost a step physically, and without his speed, quickness, explosive athleticism, and physical gifts to carry him, he just doesn’t have enough skill to back it up. I don’t care who the Lakers need to trade with, but please just trade Westbrick (yes, I called him Westbrick because that’s what he does: brick) for anything we can get. It’s addition by subtraction. I don’t care, I’ll take John Wall. I’ll take a trade with the Knicks to get Fournier, and a few other pieces. ANYTHING, just do whatever it takes to get rid of Westbrick. The dude, quite frankly, sucks. Especially for a guy making 40+ mil, he SUCKS. Period. I don’t care about his 18, 8, and 8. It’s a horribly inefficient stat line, his worst season stats since his 2nd year in the league, and that stat line comes with generally lazy defense, and a boatload of turnovers, mostly from stupid passes or fumbling the basketball. Plus he misses SOOOO many layups. You’re not supposed to miss that many layups, man! Finish strong!!! But the....

I feel bad for Russ at times because he’s a good kid, does a lot for his community, would go to war for his teammates. He plays hard and give 100, and he’s been durable, but his decision making is not the best and he’s not a good shooter. He plays way too fast and erratic at times and has a hard time playing with pace. He reacts first and thinks last, part of the reason why he’s a turn over machine. I feel that his issues are more emotional and psychological than anything. Phil Jackson in his days would have been the perfect coach to coach him because Phil was good at tapping into his players emotional and mentally in order to get the most out of them, For example World peace, Dennis Rodman, even Kobe who had his issues in his younger years. With that being said I’m all for the John wall for Westbrook swap. I think wall would be a better fit and come playoffs he would be valuable.

last night was a terrible win and I’m tired of watching this version of the Lakers. This season can’t be over soon enough.

Keep AD and get rid of everybody else, IMMEDIATELY!

Keep AD, Malik Monk and Stanley Johnson. Trash everybody else.

I think that he is in his own head. I do feel for him because he is one of the ONLY players who is out there busting his a** for this team. Again, not always the results we want, but his efforts are clear. With that said, he has had most of the season to get it right and hasn’t. We may not have a choice. The Knicks trade may be what needs to be done.

If we get Gary Trent JR I heard we may need to give up Dwight. That is going to suck. I prefer Trent over grant. Is it possible to trade Westbrook, THT, Nunn and Jordan for both Trent and Van fleet.

Maybe there's still a chance to get Buddy Heild. Westbrook has shown recently that he is pretty damn good when not playing with LeBron. Maybe his stock has gone up a little because of this.

I'm sorry there is no way we get Trent and Van Fleet for Westbrook / THT / Nunn. You realize that Trent and Van fleet are basically 20 ppg scorers this year and almost 40% from 3pts. Westbrook, is like having a Center in the NBA, he is just not a fit on a team that is trying to win it all, just like almost every center that rides the bench. THT has been less then advertised and Nunn could miss the entire year for all we know.

The only reason Trent is maybe on the trade block is because of his contact. Who ever trades for him, will get him next year for 18mil, but then they could lose him after next year or have to give him a huge new deal after next year. 18mil is a deal for what Trent is doing this year.

I actually don’t hate Westbrook. My beef is more with the so called basketball savants who insisted on this transaction. We all knew his game is predicated on relentless, out of control sorties to the rim, coupled with some mediocre/non-existent defense. He’s been this way for 13 seasons. I’m not even gonna talk about his shooting. What made those idiots think he’s gonna change at this stage of his career?

No point crying over spilt milk, it’s all water under the bridge at this stage. You can’t control…what you cannot control. We are stuck with him for at least this year. Just need to manage or rather stagger his mins, so that he’s not on the floor at the same time as Lebron. Lebron unfortunately is his kryptonite. Lol. And yes he cannot close games. Kudos to the coach for at least showing some real intent to win, by keeping the right personnel on the floor to close out games.

If they had just gone through with the Buddy Hield deal, we could have then signed Monk and still got ourselves a big 3 or 2 and a half(lol) and kept some of our guys from the championship year. That lineup would have been formidable with good shooters and above average wings/ perimeter defenders. This team lacks wings. Too many guards and not enough wings. Again, it’s almost criminal to mess with a title winning team. You don’t take an (ill advised) gamble to replace a proven commodity.

Don’t worry! Nunn should be back in 2028. Latest, “Not close to playing.” I’ve read this book before. It was titled, “Cousins 2019/2020 Lakers”.

Russ will be gone after next season. We're stuck with him. Plain and simple.

I'd say i would give up Westbrook for John Wall real quick unless we can get someone like Eric Gordon on a deal. This Westbrook is like a momentum killer in all facets on the court.

I would like to get on Lebron for approving the picks for this team. However, with only minimal games left focusing in on the solution is what's important. WTF is up with Westbrook. How delusional can you be. “I believe I’ve earned the right to finish games”. This isn’t a longevity contest, WE’RE TRYING TO WIN GAMES! He constantly turns the ball over. He plays no defense. He can’t shoot. He can’t make a layup and he takes no responsibility for his horrible play. And you think you deserve minutes for past years performances. Westbrook is out of touch with reality. He’s got to go. Unfortunately, that won’t save our season
