Simmons VS BI

If the 2016 draft had to done all over again today and you had the number one overall pick who would you select? If you had asked me this question during early last season, I would have emphatically chosen Simmons. However seeing the growth and progression of BI as he gradually grows into his nba body, I would have to go with BI.

BI can seriously shoot the rock from outside and his mid ranger is improving exponentially. Plus he has the supreme ability to play make as a relief point guard/forward. His length can cause problems to the opponents on the defensive end of the floor. He has a quick first step off the dribble to blow by defenders and is deceptively quick driving to the hoop. He is still 20 I think. Lol

Simmons is freakishly athletic and has insane God gifted hops to catch those lobs. However it is pertinent to note that athleticism has a shelf life and when a player starts to age, the other skills helps in prolonging the aforementioned shelf life and eventual longevity.

His playmaking/ passing abitlity and court vision is unreal. But he does struggle at the ft line and has a bum jumper. That can be a serious problem in the 4th quarters and during crunch situations. Idk if he can work on that and get better in time. But as things stand today, I see more upside and ceiling for BI.

So I guess I’m saying that we won that draft. Lol. What do you guys feel?

If we'd had the chance to draft Simmons then I'm quite sure we don't draft Ball. I think I'd still draft Simmons and treat him like Ball in the fact I'd have to draft some shooters and guys that can create their shot around him because Simmons is considered a PG right. All things being perfect, imagine him with the likes of Kuz, JHart, Randle even. That's just me though. Having said that, I more than happy with BI though it's just I'd think it'd be so hard to turn down Simmons as the 1st pick in the draft.

I say BI( all that's holding him back is him getting his man body), until Simmons develops a jumper. But think both teams got players that look like they'll be very good.

Now if I went back to draft night, not knowing what I know now, it would be Simmons hands down.

Simmons. His skill set is very unusual. He has an nba body and strength right now that Ingram will never have even though I'm confident he will get strong enough.

I love both these guys, and think both will be stars and would take either one, but if I had my pick, Simmons.

I would take BI -- a better natural shooter in a shooters League. I kept on asking y'all why Ingram (not Ingrams as some spell it here) was touted as a great shooter coming out of the draft and couldn't hit the ocean. I guess we had to wait. Now it's BI time!

As far as his athleticism, it does wane within years, but looking at guys like LeBron, Lou Williams and Jamal Crawford, being savy and having the high IQ will probably keep him effective even in his "declining" years. I like BI, but it would have been Simmons hands down for me.

I was really gung-ho about Simmons at the beginning of that season prior to the draft. I had dedicated the entire 2016 edition of the tank thread for Simmons. Lol. Securing Simmons was the primary objective. To be absolutely honest with you, i was quite miffed or probably even devastated when Philly picked him up. He was my unanimous #1 choice up until that point.

I was really underwhelmed with BI in the first half of his rookie season. I felt we could have been better served with someone like Jaylen Brown, since we obviously missed out on the Simmons sweepstakes.

However the stretch of games post the all star break, saw Ingram coming into his own and he took his game to another level. He was doing everything the coach expected out of him. His finished out that season on quite a flourish.

Now this year his growth has been astonishing and his production in points, rebounds and assists is trending upwards. The coach is riding him out the most(max mins) since he has the propensity to execute the game plan as intended. Kevin Durant has already gone on record stating that he would be a huge problem in the future. Not a co-incidence, since there have been several comparisons made between the two. James worthy, Bob Horry and other ex players have alluded to his “old soul in a young body” game. He seems to be ahead of the curve.

I guess it remains to be seen how Simmons progresses next year; Whether his game plateaus or if he succeeds in taking the next step, while addressing the non existent jumper in the process. I might have to change my stance at that point.

As things stand today, I feel quite elated to see the progress made by Ingram in just one season. He has taken a major leap to become the “go to” guy on this team. He might well be the face of the franchise.

Right there with you. He was the guy touted as a 3-4 year project by almost all the experts and nba scouts. He was not nba ready by any means. He is still a work in progress.

However if this is what we see in only the 2nd season (while still being a work in progress), one can only imagine the results after the 3-4 year projected window.

Thank you, kind sir. I honestly feel you on your assessment of BI. I knew it would take him awhile to develop and not that I was unimpressed because he was projected as a player that would take 3-4 years to develop, but more concerned if he would develop under the previous FO and their constant 2 max players and possibly selling the farm to NOT make the playoffs. In year 2 he is showing ALOT of the development we fans were hoping for. I think Luke playing BI at the point has definitely helped him grow. I think after the All-Star break, BI is going to show us some more.

I was listening to a very interesting discussion on nba radio yesterday, which also included ex Cavs gm, David Griffin. They were alluding to the fact that the training staff of the 76’ers, was trying to get his shot fixed from outside the perimeter since he was struggling with his outside shooting in the nba landscape. However in the process they totally messed up his mid range jumper as they tried to tweak his shooting mechanics. Very fluid and dangerous situation. Feel really bad for the kid because this is more than just a physical thing, it is psychological as well. He has lost all confidence in his jumper. The extent of the injury is also a mystery.

Is this the Lebron vs KD debate of the future? lol doubt it, but I personally think it's WAY too early to tell. Their skill sets are different so it's difficult to say who is better now and who will be better in the future. Simmons will probably always have better vision and passing than BI and BI will probably always be the better scorer. Tough one.

What's interesting and funny at the same time is that it all could be in his head....wow.

I'd take Ingram because of his ability to shoot. Also, he has the tools to become a star in this league. as such early age his been able to do a lot soon enough he will become stronger but it will take 2-3 years from now. also, he has the tools of becoming a really good defensive player same as Durant now. what i'd like to see is, he has to demand the ball more when we need a bucket, because sometimes he becomes too passive & we don't need him that.

Simmons is a rare breed, he seems a Lonzo Ball type player but bigger & stronger. am excited what player we would be able to pick this year's draft. am pretty sure our scouts have someone on the radar now.
