If the Lakers Blow It Up, It Will Be at the Trade Deadline

It would make no sense to blow it up now. Pau and Nash's value is so low that we could not get anything for them now. Also we are putting together a veteran team which might surprise and be good to contend or by deadline we should know if we are just a barely playoff team or could miss the playoffs and just blow it up.

But at the trade deadline Pau's and nash's value will be better because it can only go up from last season. We can trade them off for parts. By then we could know who has valuable picks and or good young cheap talent.

Either this team surprises and can contend or by deadline we see the state of the league and who has what pieces fit our 2014 plans and start blowing it up. You know Nash is on the lakers mind being that he is 39 and is still on the books for 2014, if we are not contending he is for sure gone.

Had to say it, but there's absolutely no way this team contends. Kobe, Pau, and Nash would have to play out of their minds for this team to even have a chance. Can you honestly say that the Lakers could beat OKC, SA, Denver, GSW, Houston, Memphis, or the Clippers? And that's just to get out of the western conference. This team needs to blow it all up as soon as they can get draft picks, young players, etc.

As long as we have Kobe we will always try to "contend". I love Kobe and all, but at some point this guy is going to need a reality check. He can't win it with him as the man anymore. Those days are long gone.

Totally agree..I don't see this team contending in the west. If I recall we have been say how we will contend for the last few years and we see how well that went.

If LAL waits until later in the season to make moves they will still have the same results record wise but yield better pieces in a trade. Say the team plays terrible but Pau and Nash put up good numbers while waiting for Kobe, they will have increased their trade value while still stinking it up in the Win/Loss columns. If they blow it up now based off of Nash and Pau's most recent performances then the parts that come back wouldn't be as favorable. Blowing up the team now doesn't help for the future.

This is why I thought signing kaman was a great move. If he has a good year and the lakers are out of playoff contention at the allstar break the lakers can get a great package for him. There is always a huge demand for low post players

I am completely on board with this idea. Pau has very little value at the moment. His 19 million off the books is huge to a lot of teams who want to go for a free agent this summer. Nash I'm not so sure will bring huge value regardless of his play at this point. We overpaid him.

With the Lakers 1st rounder this season we could potentially move up in the draft with Nash (long shot).

Pau Gasol imo should not be traded so we can go after a free agent or two ourselves.

I guarantee you that Mitch Kupchak who is smarter than everyone gives him credit for is doing a few things right now.

1)letting his trade pieces rise in value (trade deadline). Another reason MWP will not be amnestied. 8 mil off the books trade deadline.

2) biding his time with Kobe's return. Can he perform

3) Securing a lottery pick in the hopes of getting lucky.

4) Providing the change of expectations. Explaining to Kobe ring 6 and 7 will come as a secondary player at a discounted price (to bring in 2 new free agents).

What people fell to realize is that if and when the Lakers trade Steve Nash they will be able to sign three max contracts and by them having Kobe Bryant bird rights they can go over the tax and sign Kobe. Not to mention a full md level to give and a mini mid level so the Lakers look to be in great shape. Now i've been the first to go on record saying Lebron isn't leaving Miami if they had beaten San Antonio this year which wouldn't of happen if Pop didn't make dumb coaching mistakes 2 titles in 3 years why would he leave and on top of that they can offer the most money? but lets just say Miami has a 2nd round exit this year which is very possible or lets say if Brooklyn gets to the finals or wins it all with there 5 all-stars he know Wade injuries are catching up to him and Bosh hasn't been the Toronto Raptor Bosh since joining Lebron will be 30 turning 31 in that December. We all know Lebron wants atleast 6 just like Kobe the Lakers Can tell Lebron You can bring whatever two Superstars you want with you if you come. That gives Lebron a chance to build a team he want lets just say its Carmelo who is Lebron and Kobe bestfriend and Demarcus Cousins because i honestly don't see the Kings paying that much money to keep him. And say they use the mid-level on Dirk wishful thinking lol naw but a Kyle Lowry or Emeka Okafor and then Sign Kobe and Gasol because of there bird rights not to mention they will still have the mini mid level somebody like jerryd bayless or somebody to go along with that group and they....

Kobe performed as a top five player in the league last season until the injury..now after it I don't doubt what you say will be true...

But never doubt Kobe, however Father Time always wins eventually.

Yeah father time does win one day. But kobe will be back and he will be great again for the next 2-3 years.

Would be great to trade Nash at the deadline as well ... Why pay so much for aging pg who will probably be a back up by then

The point is there is absolutely no incentive to blowing it up now in the offseason you wait to the deadline.

A. baring injury nash and pau's value will go up just because of how much play we depend on them with out kobe

B. We will no for sure by deadline that the veteran team we assembled is not a contender and is more valuable for pieces

C. We will know who has the valuable picks and which rookies are panning out and could be good young assests to go after

D. Carmelo could be frustrated by deadline and announce his intentions of not resigning with the knicks and that lakers would be his destination (he has done it before in his last year of contract)

F. Teams by then may not like where their team is heading and will be looking for cap space and will want to trade for our expiring contracts which we would only give up in return for something very good.

Just in every way if we did decide to blow it up for young talent or picks and keep cap space going into 2014 it would be at the deadline.
