Problem Staying Logged In?

Lakers Forum » Lakers Topbuzz Announcements

Hi guys- I've had two users told me in the last few days that once the browser is closed, the browser is not remembering their login to the site. This is despite the "remember me" box being checked. One was using Chrome and another using IE9.

On my computer I've tried IE8, IE10, Firefox and Chrome but haven't been able to duplicate this. If you are having the same issue, post let me know here and let me know what browser + version + OS you are using so I can further investigate. Thanks!

I'm having the same problem.

Browser - Firefox 18.0.1

OS - Windows 8

I'm using chrome and I'm not having any problems.

VS- have you always had this issue with LTB, or is this something that has cropped up lately?

I'm using chrome as well, but I do not stayed logged in.

I'm using Chrome on Windows 7 and I'm having the same problem. Just started happening recently as well, thought it was my new computer but I guess not. It's not really a huge deal, but if it's something to look into then I'm another user encountering the problem.

I too am having difficulty logging in. Good thing I saved my password in my tablet

I log in with "never remember password," I can stay log in as much as I want, but it'll log me out if I am not active on the LTB site for some time.

I'm on Chrome and have Windows 7 and I never have any problems.

Im on Win7 and Firefox. Not problem at all.

Dave

As you know I have broached this topic with you a few times... I had signed in about an hour ago, and then my grandmother showed up.. She just left, and I had to sign in again...

As I told you, if I immediately post, I can stay logged in for hours, if I just browse, it logs me off rather quickly....

Hey-Dave LTB logs me out rather quickly when i am not active for a few minutes.I used all the browsers listed Internet Explorer,Firefox,Chrome,Safari and it gave me the same exact problem. Also i used Windows Vista,Windows 7,Windows 8 and i got the same results.

Yeah it's a issue from the sounds of this thread.I have the same issue as the others,i get logged out quickly.

I too have problems staying logged in and i use Safari.

Okay guys I've made a few changes to hopefully fix the issue- let me know if works for you or not- thanks!

To be honest Dave, I haven't really used the remember me function before. I just tested it out last night in the hopes that it might help you.

And it still doesn't seem to be working. But like I suggested earlier, I personally don't mind that.

Thanks Dave the staying logged in,issue is fixed for me,i was logged in all night long just to test it out.I went to bed and when i woke up in the morning i was still logged in even though i was inactive for several hours. That is the first time i was ever logged in to LTB that long without being active. The issue is 100% fixed good job. Very Happy

I am using google chrome and this is never a problem

Dave,

I just logged in, then closed the browser, reopened the browser and I was no longer logged in. The problem is not fixed for me.

For those of you who are still having issues, can you:

1)clear your cookies, then try again, and if it doesn't work

2)try another browser; if that doesn't work, try

3)logging into your account from another computer/tablet/phone

If trying another browser works, then that means there is some sort of setting or add-on for the browser you were using. And if trying #3 does not work, then let me know and I'll have to further look into this. But if #3 works, then it could mean that your PC/device where you are not staying logged in to LTB has something that is blocking cookies.

Dave,

I did nothing, and it is now working. Thanks for your help.

Sorry Dave, it only worked once.

Dave,

I will just have to live with it. Clearing the cookies and trying Chrome and Foxfire did not work. I only have one computer so I did not try #3.

Thanks for trying.

Dave,

Tried to get LTB with both IE9 and Foxfire. Both times I had to log in. When I went out and came back, had to log in again. Everytime I go out, I have to log in again. That has never happened before. Just started the other day.

Randy,

That is the exact problem I have had and described to Dave. There appears to be no solution to the problem.

If you're using Firefox you can go into Tools'Options and then the Privacy tab. Here are some settings that should work for you. I'm sure the site would choke, err at least cough quite heavily Wink if you have any browser set to not accept cookies. Every browser will have a similar options section for changing your cookies and privacy settings.

I try to not suggest too many tech things because everyone is different in their preferences. But I would highly suggest using LastPass http://lastpass.com to manage your logins/passwords. Excellent multi-platform, multi-device software/service! If you prefer such, you can even set the lakers.newssurge.com site to automatically login when you visit a page. I don't like that as a general preference, but at the very least you can use it to automatically fill passwords in a secure manner.

^^Dan- yeah usually for Firefox I just pick Fire fox will "Remember History", but this way works too. Marvin & Randy- if you could try logging in from a smartphone, tablet- i.e. a different device, let me know the result. Also if you Gmail, do you have to log in everytime you close the browser if you have it remember you?

Marvin,

Very strange turn of events after all these years. Why won't the site automatically log us on when it did so long?

Dave,

When I go to LTB with my smartphone it logs me automatically, just like my PC used to. Just did it now. I do have a Gmail account and it logs me in automatically too. Just tried it.

Randy & Marvin- go to LTB via Firefox. Then try going to that Menu Dan showed in Firefox (via Tools, Options, then pick Privacy), but click on the link that says "remove individual cookies". In the box, then in "lakers" and look for the cookie name "POSTNUKESID" and highlight it. Then tell me what it says for "Expires". For instance, mine says the cookie will expire on Monday, January 14, 2036 9:20:33 PM. See the screenshot below:

Dave,

My foxfire tools Privacy, postnukesid expires at the end of session.

Marvin- the cookie is definitely not supposed to expire at the end of the session (= when you close the browser window). That's why on LTB it cannot remember your log-in. Do you have the Firefox set to "Remember History"? See below:

Dave,

Sorry I took so long to respond. Been busy lately. Anyway, to catch up, I did what you and Dan said. I changed Firefox to Remember History. But I still have to log in every time on Firefox (and IE 9) and my post nuke still says expires at every session.

cry

Dave,

Im on Vista. Can't keep upgrading with Microsoft unless they pay me to, lol. Is it compatable with Vista?

Dave,

I am on Verizon/Yahoo and because of their tie in with Internet Exp. I need to contact them to see if they support IE10 yet.

Sorry Dave,

IE10 works great, but your site still does not remember my log on. I still have to log on each time that I return to LTB.

I post mostly from my phone... It use to work fine before... Just in the last month , it logs me out

^^What browser are you using on the phone? Have you tried a different browser on the phone?

Dave I've also been having problems staying logged in with google chrome.

^^Def, on Android or iOS or Windows?

Windows.

Dave,

Sorry for the delay, I've been busy. I booted up in safe mode and in both IE 9 and Firefox it would still not let me stay logged in even when I hit the remember me button. I had to log in new everytime I came back.

Not gonna speak for Dave here, but I wonder if your cache and possibly cookies needs to be cleaned (reset) for a clean start. It can't hurt. Has that already been mentioned? Sorry if it has. Here's a "how to" link for a lot of different browsers.

Dan,

Thanks for the advice but I tried it long ago. No good. Anyone else making any progress?

i have a problem staying logged in too. my web browser is chrome while using windows 7 any tips?

I am not dave but I can give you some tips.. you can try..

-clearing all history on your browser

-save password when logging in

-change your browser settings

-checking your browser for update

-clearing out your history on your computer using any free programs such as ccleaner, etc.

Can you guys try in Firefox, go to the menu (click on the word Firefox with the little arrow pointing down on the upper left), then go to "Help", and then pick "Restart with Add-ons disabled". Then go to LTB, log in, then, do the same thing- help, restart with addons disabled, and let me know if you are still logged in.

Dino,

Thanks for all the tips. I tried all that long ago, though, including CCleaner. Still no good.

Dave,

Ok, I did what you asked. I brought up firefox, then hit addons disabled and it restarted. Then I went to LTB logged in, hit restart with Add ons disabled while on LTB, when it restarted I was still logged in. Then I shut down Firefox completely and restarted it and when back to LTB, I had to log in again.

^^Ah- Randy- presto. That means one of your Firefox add-ons is messing with the cookie expiration setting. So try disabling them one at a time and you can find out which one was the culprit.

In Firefox, go to Add-ons, then pick "Extensions" on the left, and try disabling them one at a time. If that doesn't work, go to Add-ons, then pick "Plugins" this time, and disable one at a time.

Dave,

Sorry, no go. I ended up with all my addons and plugins disabled but still have to log in everytime even when I hit remember.
