Jazz have no one to match up against Odom. No one that can stop Gasol and Bynum from posting up. And no one that can stop Kobe once he decides to take over the game. With the exception of PG, the Jazz are outmatched at every position.

I view this upcoming series with the same feeling I have had when I have gone to bed knowing that in the morning I was taking my dog to the vet for The Shot. It will be sad, but at least the suffering will be over quickly.

I am amazed that some ppl here notice and marvel at the Laker's strengths only after a thorough thrashing of the Jazz. You guys need to watch NBA more. They have been this good for 2 seasons now.

All bad. Jazz = no chance. I was at the game...and Laker fans were offering condolences. And I found myself appreciative of that.

WTF HAPPENED TO THIS SEASON?

The Lakers are a really good team. They have shooters. They have skilled bigs. They have Kobe. They are quick. They are deep. They play defense. They rebound the ball. They move the ball really well. They have a great coach. They're just a tough team to play. A team has to have power, speed and skills at every position just to play with them. But yeah, Bynum and Gasol are the difference between this Laker team and the one that kept getting bounced in the first round a few years ago.

How appropriate that the star of Titanic came to see that shipwreck of a game.

I am going to enjoy the first round between the Lakers vs Utah because i know it's going to be fun. The Jazz is not going to be easy but Lakers of course will prevail. You don't normally see a top seed going against a team that is also pretty tough. And also the reason i want to watch this matchup is because i hate the Jazz and the Lakers being a former Kings' fan.

Any Rocket's fan is glad the Jazz lost. Even though I can't stand the Lakers, when they had Magic, they played the game right whereas the Jazz have been low-down dirty SOBs since Rich Kelley played.

Absolutely. Utah unnecessarily awoke the beast. Now they have the privilege of being summarily dismissed by that beast in the postseason.

Well...

Bynum threw one down and as he ran back he ran into Williams. He might've been able to move...might not have, either way Williams took offense to that. The next play down or soon there after, Williams made it a point to really put some meat into a pick he threw on Bynum. It wasn't necessary and really wasn't involved in the action of the play and he got called for a foul and lead to a timeout and Williams and Kobe were talking back and forth.

At that point, Utah bent over.

I'm crying tears of joy over this game.

… but if the injury was this serious, they should have gotten KG surgery immediately after the injury. It’s been over 8 weeks, and the injury is apparently still not healing as anticipated.

The Celtics medical staff has left a lot to be desired in recent seasons.

Eh...

“We” may not be able to better diagnose the issue, but that doesn’t mean the medical staff got it right. They majorly dropped the ball with Big Al, Wally, and others in the past. Why should anybody suggest they got things right with KG here?

I think it’s perfectly fair to suggest that the medical staff failed to appreciate the significance of the injury, both initially and during his rehab. Again, it wouldn’t be the first time.

It definitely will be, UT OUTLAW. I hope the Jazz respond with a care free, fun loving attitude. Because they will play so much better if they look at it like that and just have fun.

Mark my words: The Jazz will make a Finals appearance again here in the next 2-3 seasons. And I'm not ruling out this year yet. Jazz have the potential to shut the Lakers down. It's a matter of who will show up to the game, Jeckyl or Hyde? Special Olympics Jazz or Kobe Killers? ;p

You know, with all the hype surrounding a kobe/le bron showdown, something is bound to happen. Something like, oh I don't know, Lakers being eliminated in the 1st round. lol ;p

Boozer being picked on. Brewer missing outside jumpers. Collins making us play 4 on 5. Horrible defensive decisions. CJ playing like a scared little girl. Jazz's overall intensity lacking. Millsap and Harpring battling inside. Deron leading us.

Keep Millsap, Deron, and Kosta. the rest of this team is expendable.

this only proves my theory right. Anyone notice what was happening when our offense was clicking early on? Only when we decided to miss wide open jumpers and give the ball away did the Lakers really start building a lead.

The issue isn't our horrible defense, but our gross offense. We just don't have the offensive fire power outside to keep the Laker d honest. Nor do we have a big man inside to matchup against Gasol and Bynum.

Ha, and some of you were excited for this game.

PS Stop bitching about the refs. The jazz are being outplayed. No hustle, no defense, don't blame a 22 point deficit on the refs, blame it on your teams effort.

Yes, the refs suck, but blaming the refs is just plain stupid. This team has so many holes that they need to worry about their own sorry as$es.

The refs have blown a few calls but seriously the Jazz are losing because the Lakers are better and because our guys can't make shots, defend or make FTs. I don't know what game you are watching but the Lakers are toying with the Jazz. The only guy who played decently was DW and he tailed off after going to the bench. The Jazz make Brown, Walton, Ariza, and company look like All-stars while our former All-stars clank shots, not cover the 3 pt line or lane and miss FTs. The Jazz tried but it is obvious that the Lakers are a lot better than the Jazz. The only chance the Jazz had is to shoot lights out. They got a lot of good looks but couldn't make them and they left 3pt shooters wide open and that's why the Jazz are losing and not the refs.

The Jazz can battle the Lakers. They just need to do it for the full game. I was VERY happy with the second half. A few mental lapses aside in that half (AK's ridiculous dish, a couple missed layups, some poor passes from D-Will) and the score would have been far closer. Overall though I look forward to game 2.

Great game from Carlos too, it's about time. If he scores like that, I can live with his defense.

Unbelievable that we only lost by 13 and we shot under 40%!!! I don't want to get too optimistic, because I still think we are gonna have a hard time winning one game, but we could definitely make this series more interesting than I thought. If we could, for once, shoot well, I think we could win, even in LA. Their length gives us such fits though...

If they were bored they aren't a championship team. Championship teams don't let off the gas in the playoffs.

exactly. we got 2 fouls on fisher in 2:30 and then once brown came in, williams stopped attacking instead of trying to get a couple quick ones on him as well, or quick ones on their bigs (which came later) or getting a layup, or quick out. i guess he just figured that ak and brewer were out there for any quick outs and they can't shoot. love the glaring flaws on this team.

There are definitely positives out of this one. We just need the following things to happen/not happen:

1. NOBODY aside from Deron is to dribble the ball down the court.

2. Do NOT take stupid shots over an extended Odom/Bynum/Gasol when the odds are against you.

3. Do NOT miss layups.

4. Do NOT get frazzled and make silly turnovers when the crowd is loud.

5. D-Will needs to play the whole game and needs to continue to drive to the basket and draw fouls.

6. Boozer stepped it up today and he needs to keep that up.

7. We need to go to the paint and draw fouls. Brewer and Miles among others are not hitting their shots.

The Lakers are better than we are, but that does not mean we cannot beat them.

I'm okay with this game.

Their role players hit a lot of tough shots, ours couldnt hit anything at all from the outside. Deron couldnt hit anything from the outside. We had no Memo. We outplayed them in the 2nd half.

The Jazz played hard, Boozer is starting to look a little better.

It looks like we are atleast willing to fight them. We were a disasterous Brevin Knight stint away from legitimately being in this game.

This game reminded me very much of the first game of the last Jazz-Lakers series which is a good thing because we were actually a good team then.

Stop being so damn proud. Make changes. Get very creative this summer, get aggressive, get hard working players in here. We dont need to be a 1 and 4 team. We dont need to be a half court team. We need to become the team that is best suited to win a championship. Send everyone in the Jazz FO to San Antonio and have them learn something.

I can live with Sloan being the coach, but he needs to become more open-minded and be ready for change. Otherwise we need to find a new coach.

Biggest issue of Game 1: Lakers hit open shots, the Jazz did not. This often times doesn't determine the outcome of a game. In the Jazz case, it is critical they make their open jumpers because....

How many *beep* times have we seen Millsap or Korver leave somebody because their man has moved toward the basket? Korver leaving Gaysol earlier and now Millsap leaving Kobe alone, with the ball. Great *beep*....

Yeah, that's one thing it I'm a little worried about...

As a three-man unit, Brown, Odom, and Ariza have been shooting over 76% on threes. 13 of 17. That pace won't last, especially not on the road.

I also noticed that Miller was overrating everyone's height.

Just wishful thinking. I agree that Sloan is past his prime and has probably become apathetic in his career. He put all of his mojo into Stockton/Malone and was shut down by Jordan and the Bulls. That has to take a lot out of you.

And to be completely honest, we'd have to play the Lakers in the WCF anyways if we didn't have them in the 1st round. So... take that as you will.

I would like the Jazz, and Sloan, to go out and throw caution to the wind and make it interesting. That, imo, is their best chance of getting anywhere. And to have fun doing it.

And, that's the beauty of basketball! Things could swing in the Jazz's favor! Underdog upsets happen bro!

Zz17 & Cougs, As much as it kills me to say it...I think you may be rite about ol' Jerry. Maybe it is time to move on. He's been @ it longer than anyone $ it's probably taken a toll on him. It has been a great ride, though, & I'll always think of him as The toughest & grittiest coach in the league.

If this is possibly his last go-'round, I'm confident that he'll go out on his shield...Hopefully in a later round. I believe in him & my (our) Jazz.

I think the jazz are going to have their best game in LA, since Stockton and Malone. They showed in the second half, of that game on Sunday, that they are learning how to play LA in LA. The best thing for the Jazz was to lose that season ender in LA. That gave them one free game to learn LA without having to take a loss. I think if LA was smart they would have pulled the starters, gave their bench some practice, and don't give the Jazz "your team" in front of a microscope. So they can study how you work against them, what your game plan is, and a little more time to learn. So get ready to see the best game the Jazz have TONIGHT.

Good job tonight Jazz. I thought this was a much better game than we've seen in a while. We brought a lot more toughness and stayed with them for a good part of the game. Anyway . . . What do you think his game is based on? His entire game consists of knocking people back and back until he's under the basket and can get a layup. Shaq commits an offensive foul every time he has the ball, but the refs let him get away with it. You know, one of the best ways to find out just how good your team is is to listen to rival fans. It's hard to really understand how good you team is, until you read things like this.

We have the talent and depth to hang with LA, but like Baller said, it's going to come down to how well we defend Kobe. If Ron and Shane can contain him (I'd love to see Shane make Kobe shoot a FG% similar to when we won our 22nd game in a row), then we have a very real shot at winning the series. We're clearly the underdogs, but I think we're best equipped of the remaining WC teams to take it to LA. I just hope our squad doesn't get complacent with advancing outta the 1st round because they now have their hands full with these Lakers.

I think I'm more concerned with Odom than Kobe(BLASHPHEMY!). I guess we will put Artest on Odom and let Battier defend Kobe? To me that's the big mismatch we have to worry about. We know Kobe is going to destroy us(most likely). How do we deal with Odom!

And I don't worry about them being complacent, most of these guys weren't involved with all of the Rockets' failures besides Yao and Battier(and I am never worried about them showing up ready to play). I'm quite confident they will be ready to go and will play hard.

I think we can at least push them to 6 games, but anything more is probably not very realistic. Then again, that's why you play the games!

Prior to this I'd been pretty optimistic about this series, but suddenly i don't feel so good.

Only way we win is if Kobe becomes the Kobe of old....hogging the ball and taking all of their shots. It's been proven when kobe hogs the ball, the lakers are an average team.

assuming bynum's range doesn't extend out to 15ft, our defense should be decent as long as he's on the floor and yao can cheat off him to help on gasol/kobe like he did in the last series to help on roy/lma.

when they go 'small' with odom at pf and gasol at C like they did increasingly against the jazz, we're gonna have trouble.

one thing is that both brooks and lowry have the speed to beat old man fish clean off the dribble. what they do once they've beaten him is gonna be key for us. if they can draw some fouls on the laker big men the extra pressure could be a significant factor considering our ideal offense works inside out.

If there's any moral victory here tonight, it's that despite the dirty play, despite some questionable calls, despite the hot start by the Lakers and Kobe exploding on the offensive end, the Rockets were still in position to win this game...they were extremely resilient.

Turnovers and fast break points killed them though... they got sucked into the Lakers' game a little too often. They calm down and play their game, they can take this series.

But one thing they gotta be careful about...and that's not to self-destruct themselves. This team needs Wafer and Artest, and needs them to play smart basketball.

Worst officiated game in playoff history. I hate the Lakers now more than any other team. Kobe is such a dirty player. No wonder Celtics played the way they did last season. Unfair play. Hope he gets suspended and we win all our games at home.

I have never realized how dirty and arrogant this Laker team is. Odom trash talking to Scola, Vujabitch being himself, Fisher's aggression on Scola, Kobe's elbow and dirty talking to Battier... Just pisses me off.

I think today the Chinese fans will definitely change their point of view on Kobe. He is very popular in China but after this game, most Chinese fans will turn their favor to Lebron. Lebron is so much more of a classy and noble person than Kobe. He is the real MVP.

We saw tonight when Stern and his mafiosi coddle and spoil a rapist like Bryant. The mafia NBA did not do anything to the rapist when he obviously elbowed and kneed Battier in the 1st game. The Lakers played like thugs tonight but only Scola and Artest stood up to them. The other players did not even come to the defense of their team mates when the Lakers confronted them. I bet even the management is also made up of pussycats who would not complain to the head of the Stern gang about the referees. For crying out loud Joey Crawford was allowed to referee this game and what did the Rockets management expect? FACT: They are NOT tough. They are a bunch of glitz and glamor pretty boys who have great skills, but don't have toughness outside of Kobe. I'm just sickened by the awful job the refs did. Horrible calls all around. Not only were there an abundance of mystery calls (like Artest's throat getting in the way of Kobe's elbow), but way too many no-calls. I'm so proud of my Rox for playing with such CLASS. Ron is the freakin MAN! We have some tough a** guys on our team who play the game the right way; it's a shame the same can't be said about the Fakers who are just out there looking to take cheap shot whenever they can. Kobe's elbow on Ron was pretty bad, but I can let that go b/c its the playoffs (I still don't see how that is a foul on Ron?). What I can't handle that sasha douchebag constantly slapping everybody he guards, and I definitely can't handle fish-face essentially throwing a premeditated punch on Scola - although I can't say I'm too surprised considering he spent time in Utah, where dirty play is their M.O.
