I know this is very premature and some of you may not like it, but i was thinking what if we let lamars contract just expire this year. We then just let trevor and luke take over the sf spot. Then with all that extra cap space, about 15 mil, at the end of the 2009-2010 season we make a run at lebron. We could pull a sign and trade using pau. His contract is also at around 15 million. We would be able to give lebron a huge contract and still have money left over to pay kobe, plus bynum would already be covered with his contract extension this season. If you think about it , it would still be the same as having to pay to lamar and pau except we get the future best player in the NBA. Im thinking lebron couldnt say no to coming here to LA. To play with one of the greatest ever and also a good friend of his from what i have seen and heard. Also to be in a huge stage like LA would be great for him. We would still be title contenders i think without lamar in the 09-10 season. I highly doubt the front office is willing to take a chance to go for lebron but do you guys think it would be worth it?

Luke is not good enough to start and Trevor is to inexperienced with the triangle offense.

its going to be in two more seasons; this season and then after that lamar would be gone and thats when trevor and luke will come into play. I think by that time we will have an adequate starter in ariza and hopefully by then luke gets his act together or management finds a suitable yet cheap backup sf or possibly even a reasonably priced starter and use ariza as a backup.

should we persue shaun livingston as a mid level exception

i think we should go after him because farmer and sun yue still arent proven

and livingston can play a litte 2 guard and give kobe bryant rest

wat do u guys think

Nope

I'd rather take my chances on Sun Yue and Farmar than Livingston. At least those guys aren't coming off an injury, especially a career ending injury that rips up everything in your knee. Sun Yue actually intrigues me a bit, judging from what I've heard and seen.

Yes

even if livingston comes back he wont be able to play at 100%. The guy is damaged goods. We got two guards with alot of potential in faramar and sun yue. Also Livingston's long range jumper is kinda iffy and i seriously think we need a 1 guard who can shoot threes.

He's a very good defensive player that can play positions, why not?

I say we offer the LLE

He can't shoot the 3.. triangle guards must know how to shoot the 3's.

honestly there is nothing livingston could do for us... sun yue has more upside... triangle guards have to shoot threes... and the way everyone seems to talk him up i don't think we could get him for a reasonable price... i would sign him for minimun just so that i could try to trade him and vlad or luke as a package... basically i would only pick him up to get rid of him and luke or rad... in terms of him being able to play sg... we have one of the best backup sg's in the world: sasha... we don't need this guy

Isn't this the guy with the destroyed knee? We don't need to throw money at anybody this year with no guaranteed return as a valid player - we would have to be nuts.

so if sun yue and farmar hasnt proven anything then please tell me wat livingston has proved except winning 2 state titles in peoria

OK..let me break it down for you Lakerzallday ....shaun livingston is a big guard at 6'7..SUN YUE is a BIGGER guard at 6'9..shaun livingston wieghs in a 182....SUN YUE wieghs in at 212 MAKING HIM AN EVEN STRONGER GUARD>..at this point sun yue has WAY more upside than shaun livingston...he has very good defence and can drive to the hoop strong ..and has a good shot(it will get better)...so at this point WHAT does shaun livingston have that SUN YUE isnt already going to bring to the lakers??

I don't think we need any more guards, we have plenty signed and more in training camp, I think we are set.

Livingston is a great talent, but we are now in need of a backup power forward and not another pg if we have Fisher, Farmar and Sun Yue.

But it is tempting because he could cone at a small price for a world of potential talent. Even if he does not stay he may be a great option for a trade next year when a team needs a very good pg in the league.

True, Livingston was and has talent; how recovered he is now I don't really know, I think Mitch should focus on other bench issues like 4lakers noted, if we need anything we need bigs, not another rebuilding case (remember how long it took to rehab Mihm?). You never know.

were overloaded at the guard no way are we signign him, i dont think were going to sign any big name to be honest luxuary tax is a mother.......

livingston was said once to be great like paul and d williams... but he *killed his knee...

imagine a great guard like that on our team...........

too bad we're already out of guard spots already... and i dont think i want to give up farmar, sasha or sun for a risk like him

what if we trade farmar and walton for a guy like brad miller or maybe even tyrus thomas then sign livingston for the minimum?we have sun yue anyway and if livingston proves he can be healthy we will be a better team.

I dont think Farmar will get traded before the season, but with Sun coming in and Farmar falling off in the playoffs he could get moved if he doesnt play well in the beginning of the season

This thread needs to go die in the Free Agent Ideas Thread.

what do you guys think about inviting Donyell Marshall to training camp to have another shooter and another body

How about Alonzo Mourning. Nice defense, can still run the floors nicely, and when Andrew sits down, the defensive presence is still there.

NBA teams cleared to negotiate with Iranians.

BEIJING " After receiving U.S. government approval, Iranian center Hamed Ehadadi has been cleared to sign with NBA teams, Yahoo! Sports has learned.

The NBA sent out an email to executives late Wednesday afternoon informing its 30 teams they were free to enter into negotiations with the 7-foot-2 Iranian Olympian, as well as one of his teammates on Iran’s national team: guard Mohammadsamad Nik Khahbahrami.

Just five days ago, the NBA had informed its general managers that they were forbidden to enter into negotiations with Ehadadi, pending a license from the U.S. Office of Foreign Assets Control. The license was granted and Ehadadi, 23, who averaged 16 points and 10 rebounds for winless Iran in Beijing, is a free agent.

On Friday, the NBA had told its teams, “We have been advised that a federal statue prohibits a person or organization in the United States from engaging in business dealings with Iranian nationals.”

Even with the clearance, the NBA ordered its teams Wednesday to contact the league office before signing either player to a contract because the OFAC license still “restricts the manner in which any financial payments can be made.” Teams also were urged to keep all documents related to any negotiations.

Several league executives believe the Memphis Grizzlies are the most likely to sign Ehadadi, who wasn’t chosen in the 2004 NBA Draft.

Commissioner David Stern invited the Iranian national team to compete in July’s NBA summer league in Utah, allowing the team a pre-Olympics tune-up. When NBA teams started to show an interest in signing Ehadadi, Stern had league counsel begin the process of clearing a path through this complicated circumstance with the U.S. State Department.

After his most impressive game of these Olympics " 21 points and 16 rebounds in a 97-82 loss to Argentina " Ehadadi, a center, said through an assistant coach, Mehran Hatami, “It is my dream to play in the NBA.”

If we lose Mbenga to Miami, I say we get this big fella.

They always report that a team is close to getting a certain player. Look at Ron Artest, talks of Dallas, Miami and Us getting him. Who got him? Houston.

When we got Pau Gasol, people were saying Chicago would get him. And WE got him. Very Happy

A deal is not final unil it is on paper. So I don't think we should give up on Hamed Ehadadi right away just because there are reports Memphis is close to inking him.

This is just a forum, and this guy is saying that the Lakers are looking at him. I'm not surprised one bit. I know he could easily be wrong, but it seems very believable. I think he'd be a great addition. What do you guys think about this guy?

in all honesty i think he is a bit old to come over and make it big in the nba, he may get minimal minutes somewhere but thats about it

He's 23, that's the age of a sophomore in the league.

^ Um, he's 23. Too old? What?

I doubt he's coming to the Lakers. If this was a hoopworld, hoopshype article it would be hard to believe, but this is just some guy on forum. PJax seems sold enough on Mihm, doubt they would bring on such a huge project....

He said he's joining the Grizzlies....

*Official free agents thread*....

ok exactly how many years of experience has he had playing against ncaa type players nevermind nba ones compared to a sophomore

Shahin Ahvaz (1999 - 2002)

Paykan Tehran (2002 - 2003)

Al Wasl (2003)

Paykan Tehran (2003 - 2007)

Saba Battery Tehran (2007 - present)

but hey playing for these high calibre clubs by passes any experience you pick up playing ncaa ball right, and from what i gather he was undrafted back in 2004

^ Basically every foriegn player had that sort of resume before they entered the league....

he plays asian ball dude thats worse than euro ball, its like signing a player from the aba. He has never experienced american style basketball its no coincidence the majority of draftees come from college ball its damn hard to adapt to the best league in the world. I said he was to old to make it big in the nba not his to old to play in the nba its a big difference, by the time he adapts say 3 years how much upside does a 26yr old have he may get the league min salary throughout his career at best. If he was such a strong prospect why have no euro league teams other than the mighty KK partizan offered him a deal

^ I'm pretty sure Yao Ming played "asian ball"....

It's just seems like you're trying to discredit this guy for no reason....

Why hate on KK partizan?

I've seen some vids of him and he looks extremely soft.

I don't like him anyway. He looks so soft.

I want ZO...how about you guys?

lol so you are saying that this guy is as good as Yao? Im not discrediting him im just saying he is not going to have much of a career in the nba if that hurts your feelings im sorry please forgive me. Im not hating on kk partizan it was a sarcastic comment regarding they aint exactly a premier euro ball club which is my point if the guy is good enough for the nba why arent the premier euro clubs trying to get him seeing as tho they are getting other nba calibre players directly from the nba teams

Do we really need him after the signing of Josh Powell? I mean, Pau can sometimes shift to the 5 and played like we did in the second half of the 2007-2008 season..

Of course not. It's ridiculious to say he's is/will be as as great as Yao. But don't label his potential career as a guaranteed failure because he played "asian ball".

"if that hurts your feelings im sorry please forgive me"? C'mon. Let's all maintain some maturity here....

i didnt say he would fail but i said he would most likely only ever command the league minimum salary thats far from failure. Just out of interest other than the 3 chinese players yue, ming and the guy thats now in NJ can you name me another player who has come here from the asian league

nevermind i found one, Wang Zhizhi not sure if there were any more but his career didnt take off

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wang_Zhizhi

I still don't know why Mitch hasn't made an offer to guys like Mourning and Mutombo. We are going to need those type of guys in the Finals!

Mourning backing up Andrew would be great!

This is why we need to keep the 15th slot open, so when Mourning is healthy (I believe he is still recovering) we can pick him up, or another player, if we need him. Mourning would be a great addition to the bench if he was healthy, he was a beast back in the Miami-Shaq days.

HEck yes.

Plus, we all know he can fill in the void if Drew gets injured

Can I HEAR SOME OPINIONS?!?

a couple of month ago, ZO made it clear, no Miami, No Morning.

Thanks for answering. But thats not exactly true. ^ ^

There were reports that Zo was interested in joining the Lakers

(AM 570)

Truth is, the best suiter was definetly Kurt Thomas.

Confused

reports from AM 570? those guys just throw Lakers name to gain more hype.... we´ve been fooled by those punks before.

LOL @ LBJ in the Lakers.why the hell would Cavs trade LBJ for Pau and Odom? even if LBJ wanted out in a sign and trade hes not gonna go to a team with the *best* player in the league LBJ is all about marketing and playing with Kobe would hurt that because LBJ would not be the man in LA he would be 2nd to Kobe. that and no damn team would give the Lakers a chance to win titles for like 10yrs straight.
