Magic would probably like the sound of that. Defensively Lebron should have enough foot speed to keep up with all but the fastest point guards.

To me this means Kuz will be starting, which I personally would like to happen. He is still a guy we are trying to develop to get better, why force him into a bench role? He may be the best player to complement Lebron that we have on our team.

I think this will be our starting lineup.

Lebron

Green

Kuz

AD

Cousins

Rondo / Cook

Bradley

KCP

Dudley

Javale

Not a fan of him starting at PG. Too much wear and tear. But no one listens to me. He should take a look at Kobe's last few years for proof of that.

Dave, maybe you want to take all these separate FA signing threads and put them together?

I would be surprised if he actually was our actual PG. I think he will just be primary ball handler is what i am guessing. I would be shocked if they want his 17 years of experience to chase around speedy guards all night defensively. I personally think just means the PG position won't be manned by Rondo starting off it will be someone who is more of a floor spacer who can defend a quicker guard.

No I think they definitely deserve a separate topic for each signing so it's easier to follow the discussion.

I was thinking the opposite, it's more confusing.

Listening to Chris Mannix and some other radio jockeys, they were wondering if lakers pulled the trigger too soon on all these signings post Kawhi. They felt they could have explored Westbrook wanting out of OKC. I don’t know how they would have pulled it off, but I would have loved to see him go against PG/Kawhi, after the way they pulled off the heist and left him marooned on an island. Lol.

Yeah, but what trade assets did the Lakers realistically have in order to make a legit bid for an All-League talent like Westbrook? None that I can see. The traded it all for AD and didn't have anything left. Signing FAs was their only play.

Love Westbrook's talent, but there's a reason top guys leave him. When I watch him play, I see a player that's all about me, instead of team.

I agree with that. I don't think Westbrook will ever win a ring

His salary the next 2 years is over $70mill. Don't see how we'd have money for that. And his ego is too big for this team. He always works best with him and role players. Didn't work with Durant, didn't work with PG. He doesn't share the limelight with others well. And even with PG and KD, they couldn't make the finals. Last 2 seasons Russ really flopped in the po's as well. He's starting to lose his mojo. Granted we need a good PG. But there's also no guarantee OKC trades him. They're just talking about it. They also may keep him and see how it goes with Gallinari et al. We couldn't afford to sit around and wait another month to see what happens there. I think it was the right thing to do not bothering with it. We already waited long enough. And we can't really complain about the team we got. With a potential big 3 if Cousins bounces back. Low cost/high reward there. I think they'll be watching the market this season for an upgrade at PG if something comes along they can put together. We have so much talent atm, with so many switchable players/positions, I don't see it as a problem just yet.

I really don’t know how that would have worked, probably could have absorbed his salary with the cap space they had created for Kawhi? Maybe someone could chime in. I feel if they were looking at Butler, Westbrook could have been a similar option.

Maybe. It still could be something the Lakers could look at doing, but I can't imagine OKC giving up Westbrook without wanting a boatload of draft picks, and again, the Lakers traded a bunch of 1st round and 2 round picks for AD. Not sure they would have enough left to secure a deal for Westbrook.

Absolutely...Had he came to Lakers when he had the chance, we'd be complaining about his play til this day. Glad he decided to stay in OKC.

No thank you guys! I love Westbrook’s intensity and he is super fun to watch. But I would never want him on my team. He just isn’t the type of player who is built to win the chip. He is a guy who can win games but not a guy who can win series. During the playoffs when guys really key on defense he is an easy guy to cut off his strengths and force him into spots that he isn’t the greatest at. I am happy with what team we have formed! Thwre can be minor trades we could do to make the team better but we don’t need anything drastic done.

Those final years are going to kill any teams cap space. I like the idea of the super max rewarding players but it wasn't well thought out. Having a player take up almost 50% of cap space is madness.

So you guys think Kuz could stick with point guards on the defensive end? If so one lineup I would love to see is Lebron, Green, Kuz, AD, Cousins. You would have lebron at the point but then on defense Kuz would guard the point. I think he is mobile enough to do it and even if he couldn’t fully keep up with them his length will make up for it. I’m really curious to see what lineup Vogel is going to go with.

So the NBA should be more like the NHL, where you can switch lines on the fly lol. So on offense you have a certain group, then switch on D. Would be so awesome Wink

James doesn’t play defense, Dave.

The King used to D up, but finally showed his age last season, and the D isn't what it used to be. Rondo is in that same boat, which is why I'm less than thrilled to see him return to the team. Thankfully the new additions to the roster will likely minimize the defensive deficiencies evident in the older veterans on the team. At this point, I remain hopeful that those old guys will be able to "step it up" defensively in the playoffs if they're healthy enough to do so.

I would rather have Caruso in the starting lineup. He is a steady floor general, an absolute dog on defense and literally hustles for every possession. His height is an advantage as well vs opposing guards. Rondo is horrible on defense and is always hunting for assists, thus missing open layups in the process. I wasn’t too thrilled with this signing. Still hoping they bolster the wings and sign Sefolosha and/or Iguadala.

Vogel is known for being a defensive minded coach, so hopefully he'll play the players who hustle most on D. I didn't realize Sefolosha might be available. That would be a nice pickup if the Lakers could acquire him.
