Thought it time to amalgamate all the disparate threads into one, now that we have a team. Announcements have been made. Some tweaking still likely to be done. But as it's rather confusing, let's look at ALL the changes the Lakers made this offseason. And where we stand now and going forward. New Coaches: Frank Vogel Jason Kidd Lionel Holllings (edit) Players: Rondo/Cook/(Caruso?) (edit) Green/KCP/Daniels LBJ/Dudley/(Melo?) (edit) AD/Kuzma//Williams Cousins/McGee Am I missing anyone? If not still a few spots open, tho hard to say how much $ they have left. I don't think the Lakers have used the Room Exception yet, have they? If not they still have some coin. Who's still desirable? Faried, Burke, Green v2, Wright, Crawford, Melo, maybe Iggy or Korver if they get bought out. Assuming they don't, I'd probably go for Faried, Burke,Melo for more depth. And that would be a very deep team, able to withstand any injuries that come up. The Lakers' core of James, Davis and Kuzma is now surrounded by a number of quality shooters and defenders. This team couldn't be any different than it was last season. Can play big or uh medium/small ball. Cousins and AD can switch places at 4+5. With plenty of back up to watch their minutes with Faried and McGee. Other players can switch as well. It's a highly mobile team imo. That can run or play half court. And we're big. Hopefully Cousins will rehab over the summer and come back strong. If so our front court will be beastly. Clippers have us on the wing, but we cream them in the PF/Center spots. THey're still a bit better than us in the guard spots, but that could change, and we're not so bad there. Burke would bring in youth and moves and should improve with Kidd helping him. Nice combo of vets and youth. After LBJ....

We'll have good D as well btw. And lob city yeah, between 2 bigs, playing in a better city together. Hopefully healthy. With help in all positions. And let's not forget LBJ. It's a 3 headed monster imo, if Cousins can come back strong.

who do we like between Caruso and Burke? Or get both? We still have Norvell who looks interesting, and Horton Tucker as options.

So we have twelve on the roster right now. Maybe Morris will be the last added to the roster. Those twins used to be really good players, but I am sure they do not come cheap.

Sounds like he isn’t wanting to come now that we signed Boogie.

Plenty of cash to go shopping with. DOn't stop now Rob. Gonna have to change his nickname from Rob Low, to Big Time Rob. I guess this lays to rest, for now, who's responsible for the Lakers mess. Magic anyone?

Just thinking about Boogie Cousins .. if he works hard, stays healthy and returns to close to his previous form. KCP gets his shooting up .. then no one can stop the Lakers ..

Might possibly do a trade with someone with that remaining cap left. Lakers need to get some picks back so might use it for that

It will be a different LBJ we will witness this season. Last season he just played it cool when he knows that Magic cannot give him the star player to work with. He knows that he cannot take a bunch of day-care players plus a bunch of circus comedians to championship level so he did'nt work so hard. Yet Lakers almost reached the playoff if not for the injuries and the emotional stress Magic has brought to the team.

This season it will be a hungry, angry Lebron back to the old self. He never stop his conditioning wherever he goes and does his workouts and shooting. Likewise for Kyle, the undeclared star, who has become a workout freak and was even invited to the national team camp by the coach itself because he sees the upside potential of KK. Now you add AD who likewise has something to prove for himself and the team. wow, these three will be a real headache for the opponents as they will create a lot of spaces for offense and the big problem is these three has the height to create defensive mismatches.

CARUSOOOOOOOO!!! Now we’re talking.

If anything, Bron, AD and the rest of the squad now have no excuse not to ball out! The battle for LA is on.

Rob has done a good job signing up some pretty good players. Magic completely cut ties with the Lakers. He has no say so anymore. If he did talk to Kawhi, he probably cried about how Pelinka stabbed him in the back just like he went running to Steven A Smith and cried like a baby because Pelinka told him to put more time with the Lakers then what he had been doing. He did not like that, so he quits. Poor baby!

Actually it was reported that Kawhi was upset that magic leaked what their conversation was about. Magic never knew how to keep his mouth shut. Great player and he has great enthusiasm but in the front office you gotta keep your mouth shut.

One last thing I’d like to see from these New Look Lakers, please get some stability in the front office. We don’t have to make changes but stay out the headlines. Do your job, make good safe decisions and we will get the franchise back on track. We don’t need Pat Riley or Jerry West to save us. We need Jeanie and Rob to build on what they accomplished this summer. Give free agents a reason to come to the Lakers. I hope Frank Vogel is successful and he can stick around for a few years. Also everyone needs to treat AD like a king. We must sign him to max contract next year.

This is an extremely unique group of players thrown together. FULL of veterans. This is a very boom or bust type of roster. If it all comes together, championship. If not, huge disappointment. Only time will tell. If all these vets can play their role, they should be AT LEAST WCFs. Kkennon, makes a good point about defense. Boogie, LBJ, Kuz, rondo are not good defensive players at this point in their careers. Even Green has slowed down on D. Think Vogel is a good D coach though. This will be an extremely interesting season to say the least.

I would leave Rondo with second unit and maybe even Cousins. Caruso and Cook are both much better shooters. Rondo can take advantage of 2nd unit defenses. I like him in more of a coaching/mentoring role. His minutes should be limited.

The thing not mentioned is most of these guys are “professionals” and great basketball guys ... minus Boogie and his antics sometimes... these guys are all “pro’s”

Will have a nice locker room full of committed guys , battle tested guys that know what it takes to “win” it all .

The most annoying thing about this years market is that Zubacs got a four year, 28 million dollar contract from the Clippers. They must think he is gonna be great. Was that a Magic decision to get rid of him? For Mike Musical? Worst move in GM history!

I couldn’t agree with you more! Rondo and Cousins would dominate as bench role. I really don’t want Rondo starting, cousins I could handle starting because he’s a good stretch 5 and AD can help fix defensive mistakes. Personally I would rather have a flexible starting lineup depending on matchup. When we face a mobile 5 then AD should start at 5 if it’s a banger either McGee or cousins who start. I would like to see Caruso be our starting PG personally but maybe cool beats him out. Either way we have a lot of lineup flexibility.

I will never understand how in the world that happened. Granted it wouldn’t have mattered anyways probly because we would have had to have traded him to NO if we kept him anyways.

Well he's not very mobile or quick. Old style center. That was always the dig on him. So depends on the system. He's better in half court sets. We have better 5's now than him. Granted I liked him as well, eventually. At first not at all since he seemed lazy to me. But as you say, more than likely he would have been a casualty either way. Or we'd have kept him and not gotten Cousins. Between us and the Clips we are much deeper imo. And Doc wears out players. We'll see how he manages minutes for KL. It could all backfire. And a lot will depend on PG's shoulder issues. Which tend to wear out as the season goes on. He could hardly hoist the ball this last playoffs. I do also think that, other than LBJ, we have healthier egos on the team. No one pouting over a leak or if we tried to trade for them etc. Who do these guys think they are? Unreal sometimes. In any case, the team will be a heck of a lot better than it was last season. So gotta give credit where credit is due. Just a shame everyone drank the koolaide that KL was coming here. We could have been even better had we said pass, and gotten deeper into the top FA market. But all things considered, we didn't do bad. I wanted Cousins either way. I think where we really missed out in FA was the PG position. Not sure we could have done any better in any other position really than we have, other than grossly overpaying. If we had paid DLo $27mill/yr I'd have flipped out lol. And if Westbrook had been available then, ok, but he wasn't. And he wants to be the....

I never did care for Zubac. He is slow and about the only thing he did was dunk. He is tall, but he has to really improve to impress me. The game now days is about speed and he does not have it. I could be wrong, but I do not think so.

Not sure where to post this but there’s an interesting post from MrRambis over at LB, a verified AEG insider who does business with the Lakers. They recently had a meeting with Jeanie, and he recapped it in a very long post. I can quote it here if that’s allowed. Jeanie really is exactly how we all think she is

Mods/Dave please feel free to take this down if it is inappropriate. Cheers! Post from the AEG Insider: “Hi all, Sorry I was too busy to update for most of today. But I did have a chance to get a detailed play by play of the Lakers-AEG meeting and wanted to share. Keep in mind this is the AEG perspective, but I feel as though it is quite neutral. Several senior AEG execs, including C-suite level folks, met with Jeanie Buss, Tim Harris, and a few other business and basketball operations folks today. AEG raised several concerns, most notably about their handling of the....

Doesn't surprise me. But one thing I note. It is now confirmed what I've been saying for years. Lakers only want to do business with other Lakers. That seems to have changed now tho.Right? We have no past significant ex Lakers onboard anymore, other than Rambis. New coaches, no ex Lakers among them. New players. etc etc. Maybe she just meant front Office? In which case it's just her and Rambis, and other Buss family members. Magic being one and all.

That is just typical board meetings. Philip Anschutz and Rand Phillips just wanted their money back. They miscalculated on how much power the new owner of the Clippers has.

And it does not surprise me that Jerry West stuck it to the Lakers. But I do remember when he was with the Laker organization he was a nervous wreck.

I do agree it has been a lot easier for him in Memphis, Golden State and now Clippers because there were no expectations at all. They were all losers before he got there so if he failed then so be it. The Lakers front office job is probably the hottest seat in the entire NBA. I do still think that we should spend whatever it takes to get one of the top executives for basketball ops. I think it is important to allow someone from the outside come in who knows exactly how to build a team.

Well with the Lakers popularity, I see why the league is in collusion to bring them down (or try to). They have some weird idea about absolute parity. And if LA is that much ahead in the national and international conversation, that's defeating their stated (or unstated) purpose.
