Now that the NBA Playoffs are in full swing, I have a number of observations:

  1. You need at least one superstar in his prime -- or younger -- to win your series. Kawhi, KD, Kyrie, Embiid, Harden, Horford (at 32, an exception), Giannis, et. all. There is no 35 year old superstar who will lead a team to the Finals. Those days are over.

  2. Seeing Mike D'Antoni leading his team to a great record and a shot at a title leads me to believe it was the FO, not Mike, who flucked up in his tenure here.

  3. Second tier players need time to develop. Eric Gordon is a prime example.

  4. For a guy who seems really smart, PG13 is an idiot. He plays in Westbrook's shadow and gets nowhere in the playoffs. He could have had that here and made a lot more money. As a L.A. native, and a great guest on the talk show circuit, his marketability would have been off the charts. And not have to live in that shithole for eight months out of the year.

  5. Lou Williams, like most level 2 NBA stars, craps out in critical games.

  6. Curry plays like spit but hits the clinching 3 against Houston.

  7. Once again, CP3 makes the critical mistake - one that gives the Warriors the game.

What can you add to this list?!

By the way that was a great game today and I wish that the Lakers would go after Durant instead of AD. Durant is the man and he could put the Lakers over the hump. I do believe he will be leaving the Warriors and I hope it is to the Lakers and not the Knicks.

I agree Eric Gordon has really taken his game to another level and is a clutch shooter. The Cllippers have had lots of great players and have traded or let them walk, because at one time they just did not want to pay them.

I sure hope the Lakers get somebody good this summer because the door is closing fast on LeBron if he is going to get a championship for the Lakers while he is here. Durant will be a free agent and the Warriors, I believe will not go that much over on the luxury tax to keep him. So the Lakers should really be looking at Durant and if not him Kawhi is also awesome player.

I hope it's BOS/GSW in the finals.

I'd love to see that. I think Boston is the only eastern team that could make it a series with Golden State.

Gordon was an all star level prospect but kept getting injured. He didn’t get time to develop, his body just didn’t allow him to stay on the floor.

Mike also wasn’t a bad coach but he was brought on to coach Kobe, who can be a pain to say the least. And Kobe was paired with a broken Nash and a Dwight who wanted to play his own way, a way that Mike’s offense (and Kobe) didn’t allow. We could look back and say it wasn’t all Mikes fault because the team didn’t give him players he needed, but I could also say a truly great coach can adjust his system to fit with the personnel on hand. At the end of the day, Mike’s system just did not allow Nash/Kobe/Pau/Dwight to play to their strengths, the system didn’t need adjustments, it needed an overhaul. He was just a flat out bad fit for the core we had on hand.

Any team but Boston to win the title. Personally, I want to see a Houston/ Raptors final.

Man it sucks watching the playoffs for 6 straight years without a horse in the race...lol

Sorry to read that some forum members are not really basket ball fans. All they know is the Lakers LOL. I am not like that at all. I enjoy the sport for what it is, not a home boy like some. I hate the Rockets and I hope they get eliminated in four. I just do not like Chris Pauls game and the Bearded player (Harden). I do not like all the flopping they do just to get to the line. Little short legged CP3 kicks his legs out to create a foul and Harden seems to get a stroke when somebody gets close to him, falls right over and the bad thing is that the ref's usually will give him the call.

I notice that lots of people want the Warriors to lose because they have won so many championships, but you got to give credit where credit is due and that team plays unselfish basketball and share the ball. I like that kind of team work and I enjoy watching them.

I believe in the finals the two teams that will compete against each other will be the Warriors and the Raptors. I do not believe the Celtics are good enough to beat the Raptors. Kawhi has that team playing at a high level. And on the Warrior team, Durant is just spectacular.

This thing of just being a Laker fan and not watch other teams is the most ridiculous thing I ever heard. Don't be a poor loser, enjoy the sport.

Just as much a fan as anyone, watch different teams during season , every season as long as I can remember. Just not a big fan of today's nba playoffs or this watered down league imo, there are times I don't watch all the Lakers games in playoffs or not. Back when Magic. MJ, Kobe and Shaq, Dr. J,Bird. I watched most of the teams in playoffs and finals, back when NBA was fun , like today's nba, but don't love it.

So Axle if you watch every game, more power to you, I have other things to do in life. Think I'd rather stand by 1 team ,than bandwagon every team in finals. Lmao

Well KKennon! All I can say is you really are not a basketball fan. So all you like to see are the Lakers? You are one strange dude, that is all I can say.

I like the Lakers, but they are not my whole life. They are just a franchise that I have watched since the Magic, and Kareem days, but I am sure as hell not in love with them. If they screw up, I let everybody know how I feel about what is wrong with the organization. I am not infatuated with the team like you are KK.

I even enjoyed watching the Celtics get their azz kicked yesterday. Great game, You are missing out on some good games being played this season.

So I guess you are out fishing with the Laker team. LMAO!

Since I hate watching baseball (to me it is so boring), I will watch a lot of playoff games. Not every one. Some of these guys -- like KD, Giannis, Curry, etc. are so skilled they are great to watch.

As to rooting for a team, Mr. Bandwagon here has a simple formula. If the Lakers are not in the playoffs, I root for all the Cali teams. I live in Cali, why not?

I also pick players/teams to hate. I HATE The Beard. I am glad the refs do not give him those kickout fouls he always gets in the regular season. Regardless, you can always count on Harden to choke in the post season when defenses tighten and refs call less fouls.

I also HATE Boston.

I also want Toronto to lose so that Kawhi might leave them and sign with us. If they win, he likely will stay in Canada.

Guess you didn't understand anything I said, it's not about the Lakers, it's about the current NBA in general. Plus the fact that I always followed players more than one team other than the Lakers. I just don't enjoy the game in general as much as I did back in the day. Same with NFL, it's almost like they should make it flag football now. And since I posted original post I have watched parts of some playoffs games. But they just don't keep my attention like they used too. Sports has always been more about entertainment to me , like my favorite TV SERIES , guess players to today just aren't like MJ, Magic, Bird, Kareem, Dr. J, etc. Big than life. Imo

I watch Lakers more because I find young core interesting, plus all the Lakers drama. Lol

So you calling me not a basketball fan is funny to me , considering that I've played sports all my life and watched sports since I can remember. So I'd say I'm just as much a fan as you or anyone, just different kinds of fans. Besides the fact that I work weird hours at work , and they don't always line up with hrs playoffs or sports in general are on at night.

Like Tempy said ,for someone that gets on here and praises all things Kobe and bitches about every little move Lakers make or don't make, seems like more than just a franchise you've just been following.

Last , but not least, don't fish, but rather be out fishing with my favorite team , than bandwagoner riding GS's jock. Think maybe you're on the wrong forum, maybe try all NBA and teams forum. Thought this forum was for fans of Lakers , not just I'm a lakers fan when they win Chips. Lmfao

LMAO! OK KKennon you got me on that one. And you are right I do like to watch the Warriors play since I lived in the bay area for many years. But I also like watching other teams and see who might be available for the Lakers this summer, and check who could help this Laker team to be put over the hump.

I am like Baadmaster and enjoy the game of basketball, and how good some of these teams are. I do not go around pouting because our Lakers did not even make the playoffs. You got to act like an adult, not a spoiled fan that will hate basketball the sport just because our team suxed.

But you are not the only one. You got members like Tempy who in my opinion hated Kobe, despised him because he would at times take over the team IF he saw that the effort was not there by other team members, but ended up winning many games for the Lakers. The way I looked at it is that Kobe was a born winner, others the game is just a job and a pay check. If they lose, so be it. Kobe was not like that, he wanted to win every game he played and that is why he was one of my hero's. I had great respect for a person with that kind of attitude. Served in management for many years and that is how I separated good workers and workers that were there just to collect their pay check.

But Tempy claims that I was hanging by his jock strap. Now I do not know how old Tempy is, but the hate he shows for Kobe, since he had gotten hurt and after, to me he does not show any respect for probably one of the greatest Laker players who ever played the game, even if he was hurt, he would still try to play. Then when they say they do not like to watch other teams play???? Well! That is childish!

Never hated Kobe. Why would I hate the guy?

Did I complain that he should never have got that last contract? Yup

Did I complain when he had a bad game? Yup

Did I complain when he threw up 3's shooting 29%? Yup

Did I complain that he held the franchise back from rebuilding? Yup

Were all these things Kobe's fault? Absolutely not, management was bad, coaching staff was bad etc etc. None of that is hating Kobe, none of that is taking away from his amazing accomplishments with the franchise. Those final years were bad. Hence a lot of complaining. Which is what you remember.

Did Kobe have some good games in those final years? Absolutely. Did I say he did? Yes I Absolutely did. Just because I said he had a bad game when he did makes me hate him? Lol The fact is he had more bad games than good in the last few seasons.

How is stating a player had a bad game when they had a bad game disrespectful? That's just plain stupid and the exact reason why every one gets a participation trophy these days.

Axle apparently you don't understand or are just blind to anything I've been saying, where did I ever say I hate basketball. IT'S NOT ABOUT THE LAKERS, IF LAKERS WERE IN PLAYOFFS OR FINALS, I still don't enjoy the game as much as I once did. Hope you can understand me now. And these players that are worried more about social media and clicks, more than what they're doing on the court. But still like the game , JUST DON'T LIKE IT AS MUCH.

So if you like or love the current game, than more power to you, doesn't make you anymore or less a fan than I am. And as far as the Lakers sucking right now, if anything thing, it's made me watch more to see how core develops.

Get you watching other teams to see who can help Lakers, but I've gotten past that, since it doesn't really matter what we think, teams rarely do what fans want anyways, especially Lakers. Hope you understand me some now, but I'm sure you'll hear something totally different in your mind. And end the end, I don't really give a ****.

They went into quadruple OT...and only avoided a fifth cos Jokic missed a free throw. Denver blew it BTW.

But watching both teams, my eye said their passing was much crisper than ours even before the King's injury.

And their free throw shooting was a ton better.

That, I think, comes down to coaching.

I am glad Luke is gone. Although Lue is no coaching genius.

It definitely helps when a coach works on certain things in practice but no coach was able to help Shaq all that much, that comes down to the player in a lot of instances. Randle improved a lot on his free throws, Ingram started improving but Ball's form is garbage and it doesn't help. Plus Ball's confidence isn't there either. The Laker's best player's free throws went down the drain too this season.

I'm not happy with the Lue hire, I wanted a coach with something new to offer, a coach who will implement a system for all the players to thrive. I'm just not sure if Lue is that guy. Lue was unfairly fired shortly after James left, so we don't know what type of system he has without James' ball domination.

Never seen Curry shoot so bad. He made a fool of himself tonight. Thompson was not playing that good either. OH Well, it will be over in five or six. Warriors had plenty of opportunities to win game three, but because of the stupid moves by Curry they lost it in over time.

Memo to Lakers mgmt, whoever they are: Steph Curry is 31 and he isn't half the player he was just a few years ago. Father Time is undefeated, and anytime you sign an athlete at over 30 you do so at your peril.

In this NBA, with the speed and hops everyone has, you can age in the blink of an eye.

Lakers: Please do not sign even a superstar over the age of 27.

Lol, memo to Baad, teams ain't giving away young superstars. Only a few under 27 anyway, and I mean superstars not just stars.

Then the only way to get them is to make 'em yourself. Giannis was drafted #15, Donovan Mitchell was drafted #13, Jocic was #41, Draymond Green #35 ---you draft well and develop. That is how you get a great team.

True, but those players don't come along often. Have to get lucky. And still wouldn't call Mitchell a superstar yet.

Therein lies the problem. If we drafted Donovan Mitchell, LeBron would have traded him for ole "on the decline" Kevin Love. Or something like that.
