Don't expect too much from this Lakers team. The body language of the FO seems to indicate that they will not seriously pursue playoff spot by declaring that Walton will still be the coach until the end of this season. Maybe Magic and Pelinka does not want to go head to head against Jeannie, the owner. This is the primary reason why Kanter and Morris was not hotly pursued by Magic and Pelinka. Maybe the plan is for complete overhaul of the team for next season from the coach to the players and get at least two star players to play alongside LBJ.

He was saying he was overhyped even before Marc Gasol was brought up for whatever unknown reason lol. The guy has potential and has a future in the NBA. No one is saying he is a star in the making, no one is saying he is DPOY but the fact is, the Lakers need centers on the roster next season and Muscala is not going to be part of the future. What blows my mind is they we're trying to sign Kanter who is no different to Zubac. In fact Kanter is posting the worst defensive rating of any center that has....

I don't get it. This is A dumb trade. I thought we would be getting atleast a decent player in a buyout market. Zubac was legit & we couldve had a better player in return, instead of Muscala Bums.

So what is it? The fact that they couldn’t afford him or that they were catering to a 3rd string back up center? A center who is essentially a D.Jordan lite dunker and Bugs Bunny on defense. A center who gets tossed around like a rag doll on defense. As a laker fan I was embarrassed against the game vs Philly watching Embiid blatantly butcher our cartoon center. If he’s complaining about PT, then he’s not a team centric guy and he should have been dumped just like Beas.

You don’t attach a young asset to dump a bad contract, when you could have simply waived Beas to open up a roster spot. What kind of rubbish is this?

Neither Zubac nor Mykhailiuk were under guaranteed contracts in July. Zubac will be a restricted free agent with a meager cap hold of $1.9 million (just $1 million more than an empty roster charge of almost $900,000).

Maybe the lakers required every bit of the $1million in cap space that Zubac would have occupied this summer (insert huge sarcasm emoji), but they won't know until July and the Lakers could have let him go before the end of June. Walk that bridge when the time comes Mothafokas!!

What has Muscala done in this league to justify his selection? This last off season they could have signed arguably the best stretch 5 in the league B.Lopez, who according to several reports wanted to remain a laker and would have taken a hometown discount. He eventually signed with the Bucks for $3m. Lopez is a huge reason for their successes this season. But hell no, Maginka paid $7-8m to Beas in their quest to assemble a goon squad. And they eventually got rid of Beas. Lmao

They went away from Lopez, cut Bryant and decided to stick with Zubac. After the morons realized that they need shooters in 2019 nba, they attached Zubac to dump Beas and got a Lopez lite shooter in Muscala, who I’m not even sure shoots better than Moe.

They trade their most consistent Center and Zu only had such a small cap hold when the other 2 are either injured or inconsistent. Post pneumonia McGee just has not been reliable & Tyson can’t get in the court since he’s as old as KAJ. Trading Zu has only compounded the situation

Looking for article I saw earlier today, FO said they knew they couldn't afford him next season, so they let him go. Also had some stupid reason about McGee complaining about playing time.

So basically no matter how good he played or well he started to develop, he was a goner. OH have all the faith in the world in this FO...smh

Yeah, this FO has no plans what so ever. They have no clue.

Randle balled it up last night;

33 points, 11 rebounds, 6 assists.

I can't help but wonder what the team would look like if we kept certain individuals.

Worse still: Kyle (Kobe 2.0) Kuzma was named the Rising Stars MVP with 35 points. Good thing Magic didn't trade him.

Imagine a team with Julius, Brook Lopez, Zu, Kuzma, Zo and LeBron. All Magic had to do was basically nothing. And the Lakers would be contenders. Sad.

ThaT’s all I do. Randle balls it up pretty much every night. He should’ve been an all-star. D. Russell looks good too. Shoot even Clarkson looks pretty good. If we had them instead of James I guarantee we’d have a better record. We’d be younger and playing together. Smh.

I wanted to see

Zo / Lou Williams

Russell / Clarkson

Ingram

Randle / Kuzma

Zubac.

That team could’ve been something. 🤦🏻‍♂️

Considering how you guys keep saying Lakers suck at developing young talent, looks like a lottery team to me. Especially in the West. Lol

They do suck at developing talent but if they actually chose a path of development and not chasing stars they could develop a system and maybe bring in some qualified coaches to help.

Instead we are left with aging superstars running the franchise, hoarding cap space and letting great young players go. Kinda deja Vu for some reason, hummmmmmm

Don't know about great, say very good. But would have happened sooner or later, can't pay all of them. Get your point, but also think you need stars in this league to have a chance at a championship. Something they didn't have, or imo, developing into too.

Not that Lebron is right star, wrong star at current stage of development. Teams going to look very different in next couple years.

Magic said this is all part of his master plan. Everything he has done and is doing is leading up to a huge block buster deal that is going to rock the NBA. He has encouraged all of the fans to be patient because it’s going to change the NBA landscape for along time to come! I’m wondering what Magic has up his sleeve. Will he be able to pull a rabbit out of his hat!

Well yes, very good players. Players who have a solid future ahead of them. Instead we get washed up vets and roster turn over year after year.

The problem for me is the path the FO are chasing doesn't even guarantee a championship either. Then 5 years down the line the franchise is rebuilding again. Just short sighted imo.

The best thing for the Lakers to realistically do (they are not trading LeBron) is to go after a big fish this year or trade for AD. My dream scenario is that AD get traded to Boston this summer and then leaves them for us.

It's another wasted season of LBJ having no help. If AD was to come the summer after LBJ would be hitting 36. He can't carry the team every night as it is, this production is only going to go one way.

Agree, but last few years, if you've watch him play, he doesn't really kick it in to gear till post all-star break. So we'll see if that continues starting Thursday.

He doesn't have the luxury of taking it easy until the playoffs, this ain't the east lol. Playoff LeBron needs to show up just to make them, or someone needs to really step up their play.

Didn't say anything about him taking it easy till playoffs, his numbers show for the last few years that he's step it up right after all-star break. So we'll find out Thursday and going forward if he can still do that.

I was really hoping that they would hold fort and at least go .500 ball when Lebron went down. That was the perfect opportunity for them to showcase some talent and pride. I never expected the 6-12 result. Losses against the Cavs and Knicks was just horrible and embarrassing. Knicks went on to lose 18 in a row after that laker game.

This was much before the trade deadline so that cannot be used as an excuse.

Doubtful. They would’ve had a guy that made the ASG, another guy that should have, a good center a good PG and a good SF, with at least 3 very high quality guys coming off the bench! Worst case scenario 8th. They’d be playing Luke’s system far better too.

They'd have a guy who made ASG because players ahead of him got hurt. Dlo was a replacement. They'd have another who is playing better offensively, but not AS, and neither are good on defense, they actually suck !!!

Plus neither is going to help you win enough games in West to get into playoffs. Nets would be lottery right now in West with their record, and we see what Pels are.

Agree about system, but in West , Nah, lottery team without a go to star player and if they stay healthy.

Doesn't really matter anyway, doubt if hardly any of these young guys on team next season.

That’s incorrect. Have you actually watched the Pelicans play? Randle is a very good defender. Not suck, not good, very good. You can’t say we wouldn’t have a go-to Star needed to make the playoffs. Who do the Jazz have? I wouldn’t really call Mitchell a star yet. A team that plays well together is more valuable than having 1 Star, unless that star is so great that he alone makes the difference. Like a Kobe or even James in his prime. Look at the clippers, who are currently in the playoffs. They don’t even have good players let alone stars lol. The kings are also ahead of us with no stars. Sorry, but don’t think you’re correct. That team would pass atleast the kings and clippers and be in the playoffs.

Yes I watch Pels a lot, because of AD. And Randle is not good on defense, he's ranked 216th in league defensively, even behind Kuz ( WHO SUCKS), so no I'm not wrong. And as far a getting in playoffs, Clippers traded their star to Sixers, and they are barely in playoffs, they've just had a easy schedule lately. So yeah, you might be right about them barely making playoffs with 8th seed, but that Kings team is improving too.

And the Jazz have players that have been together, and Mitchell may not be a star yet, but he plays like one at times.

Point is , I don't care about them with that team getting 8th seed , only to get knock out every year by top teams. Teams going anywhere in this league have a star or 2. Which I don't see any of them on that team you mentioned becoming.

What is this stupid a** ranking? That was rhetorical, I don’t actually care. You gotta watch defense with your own eyes. You are wrong, Randle is a very good defender. The Jazz have players that have been together? What do you think would be the case with those players?? They wouldn’t get knocked out every year. I said they’d make AT LEAST the 8th seed this year and they’d contend after that. And they’d be able to make that team better through free agency or GOOD trades. Not the stupid azz trades that Magic makes!

Agree to disagree. I thought Randle finally became a solid defender last year, but when I watch this year, seems like he’s everywhere on defense. A very good team defender, not lock down one on one defender.

Either way, KK, can’t argue about his offense. The dude is a star! Has been all year (since he started getting starter minutes). Worst thing we did was lose him for nothing. Especially considering how cheap we could’ve re-signed him for smh.

Especially when you consider they brought in Lance Stephenson/Rondo/KCP (take your pick) with that money he is making with the Pelicans.

How about this tempy, thinking about what’s best for the franchise:

Would you guys rather have a 34-37 year old LeBron James at $38.5M of cap space each year with his production, age and salary (and defense and distractions) all combined...

Or would you rather have a 24-27 year old Julius Randle costing $9M per year, we can even say it might’ve taken $10 or $11M to secure him per year with his production, fit, age etc. etc.????

By no means am I saying Randle is nearly the player that James is, but all things considered, I think you’d be a fool if you’d rather take James long term. He cost more than 4 times as much, you’re already getting less on your return right there, plus he’s 10 years older, doesn’t play defense AT ALL, is no longer in his prime, brings tons of distractions (his fault or not, it’s true) is a terrible fit with our young core, and is clearly trying to get or coach fired. Not to mention with Randle at $10-$11M per year we would have an insane amount of cap space still, and I think the days of us being a joke are over to free agents. Well at least they would’ve been had we not gone this route.

Like I said earlier,

Ball, Russell, Ingram, Randle & Zubac with cap space to go after a superstar or the chips to trade for one. Hate that Magic Johnson is running this franchise.
