Exactly. This is a performance driven league and it appears that they have regressed this year especially on defense. Part of coaching is also having to be tough. Like having the fortitude to ride with the line up which works and not trying to please everyone.

Somehow the team played better when Rondo and BI were out. Just an observation. Sometimes less is more.

That’s my biggest gripe with Luke, trying to give minutes to everyone. Also, I can’t stand a coach who alters guys minutes due to how well they’re playing. The stats will show one of Luke’s players averaging 25 minutes per game but that probably because a player had a four game stretch of minutes that read 35, 10, 20, 35.

What’s a guy’s role if there isn’t consistency?

When Ingram starts getting more comfortable we’ll be a lot better offensively, not that scoring is a glaring problem for us. But i think Ingram, who’s used to being a primary ballhandler gets mentally bothered with Lebron on the floor. He doesn’t seem as confident, almost like “I should give Lebron the ball”

It’s one of the issues of kids playing with a legendary vet they’ve looked up to or modeled their game after. The issue is where does Ingram fit in or grow when Lebron is constantly asking fir the ball? I’m not saying Ingram doesn’t get his chances but there are too many guys in this team who need to handle the ball.

Don’t think Kawhi would stay even if they had traded for him. Believe strongly he wants to be the guy, isn’t going to be anyone’s Robin.

I fully agree. I think that’s the one aspect people keep glancing over with wanting Kawhi. Once you’re in a team with Lebron, you’re considered the help. If kawhi leads Toronto past Boston then why would he leave?

This team of acquired players reminds me of what Cleveland tries to do at the start of last season.

Lebron James

Dwayne Wade

Derek Rose

Isaiah Thomas

Jeff Green

Jae Crowder

On paper it didn’t look bad, it’s a good nba2K roster but it didn’t mesh all that well because four of those guys do need to handle the ball or they just won’t look as good.

I’m curious I wonder if Joakim Noah can play 15-20 min as a back up center for us """

I agree with many things you’ve said. I’ve been one to complain before about his rotations. But his rotations last year weren’t getting us to the playoffs, nor will his rotations be the deciding factor this year whether we go to the finals or not. His rotations did smooth out somewhat towards the latter half of last year and I expect the same this year.

I also agree with us not being able to shoot as well as our 3PA suggests we should. But we can clearly score the ball, our first game we scored almost 80 points in the paint, so scoring isn’t much an issue for us, it’s defense. Can we be better at shooting? Definitely. Do I expect Luke to tell them stop shooting? Definitely not, I also wouldn’t want him to. We can talk about them being pros and should take everything their coach says in and do the best with it, but they’re still human. Luke telling them to stop shooting will dampen their confidence, and confidence is HUGE in basketball. Another point, a point I think is more important is that if the Lakers stop shooting as often, defenses will be able to read us better. “This guy is gonna pass up the shot and take it in.” Luke is betting on the Lakers as they are to improve their shooting on the fly, which is fine. You can shoot lights out in practice but it won’t mean anything if you don’t do it in a game, and if coach tells you to not shoot in the game...?

Randles solid play proved Luke wrong that he should be starting over anyone else, that took almost half a season to happen. Injuries also became a factor, Ingram and Ball missed around a third of the season. I don't think Luke smoothed out anything, he was forced into certain actions imo. The reasoning for Luke's free pass so far has been that he is learning as a coach and the roster didn't have much talent. Well he is still making the same mistakes as last year and now the roster has talent.

As for Luke telling them to stop shooting, it's about shot selection. This is a break down of how soon they shoot in the shot clock.

Between 24 and 22 seconds left on the shot clock 5.9% of the time.

22 to 18 seconds left, 22.7% of the time.

18-15 seconds left, 18.9% of the time.

That's almost 50% of the time the team is putting up a shot with 9 seconds or less of the shot clock gone. This is great if it's in transition but the team is sitting at 26.7% frequency of all plays as transition offense.

With offensive rebounds now resetting the shot clock to 14 they clearly don't influence the stats above. They are playing too fast. Which is exposing them defensively too. Tiredness is going to be huge come the end of the season. No one gives as much effort defensively when tired.

Let's look at an individual player as another example. KCP is attempting 42.9% of all his shots from 3. He is shooting 3's at 22.2% percent and is a career 34.4% It is just not good offense for him to be hoisting them, defenses are reading that and letting him shoot. Is Luke giving him confidence by letting him shoot? There is a difference between telling someone to shoot in specific situations and telling him to not shoot at all. KCP is not Klay Thompson who can shoot his way out of this slump and the team still wins anyways. The Lakers can't carry any dead weight.

The lakers have no problem on offense. They get big leads, but when JaVale goes to the bench Williams at 6'9" or LeBron at 6'8" is not going to cut it playing the five spot. Just too short! That is where leads are lost with taller players taking advantage of the short players the lakers have put out to play the five spot. Zubac is a wasted spot. He is tall, but way to slow and not physical at all. We need a good seven foot back up center that can protect the painted area, just like McGee.

Trade Zubac, MCP and Beasley for a back up center and the Lakers will be just fine. I had also thought about adding a shooting guard or small forward, but it seems like Ingram, Kuz are handling that part real well and at the same time they are young and will get better.

They can replace Beasley with him. On 2nd thought, I'd take Bynum back.

I was reading on my cell phone this morning that Luke might be close to getting cut off. I hope not, give him a chance through this season, and if there is no improvement, then I can see where there might be other options. But please do not get McHale former hardcore Celtic and Laker hater.. That to me is a no brainer.

Luke is bringing along the team just fine, but Magic and Perlinka need to get him the right players where ever there are weaknesses. Right now we need a back up center BAD. Somebody mentioned Joakin Noah? Not sure if he is healthy or not, but he was good at defense and would always give 100% with the Bull's. Why he is not playing now? Not sure what happened to him, but I have not seen him in a while.

I believe he was rotting away on the knicks bench (as most players do when they end up there) .. and they came to a buyout agreement in the recent past.

I wouldn’t mind picking up Noah at all. He definitely plays with a lot of heart, has a high defensive IQ and doesn’t make stupid decisions on offense. That alone would benefit our team.

No harm giving him a shot. He was active last night and I was hoping he would get a look.

And he stretches the floor as well. We need shooters on the floor and not as towel boys on the bench. Lol.

Lance did not miss a shot and gets 9 minutes. What is wrong with Luke?

I hope Luke stays as Lakers coach. Too many changes is not good either. You can only do so much with the talent he has. Just because he got an aging LeBron in a mix with four real young and talented laker players does not mean he can get instant success. He is still trying to see which players should be starters and who should come off the bench.

But the real problem is he has some dead weights on the bench that Magic or Perlinka should get rid off and bring in a good back up center and maybe a good three point shooter to compliment what he has. LeBron is a good player, but he is not God's gift to the lakers and expect on the first season to win a championship.

I was listening to Steven A Smith and he also thinks that the Lakers have great offense, but no defense. When the starters are in, either Ingram or Kuz light up the score board. LeBron usually will just pass the ball around. Zo? Well you never know which Zo is going to show up. Some days he looks great and then some days he can not score. But what Zo should do is if the long range shooting is not falling for him, he can drive and LeBron will see the cutter and will get him the ball.

Zubac, Beasley, Pope and some others are questionable whether they should even be Lakers. Trading time is coming up.

What about Zo being best defensive player on team, if all your looking at is scoring ,that's just small part of the game. What about Lakers being 3-1 when Zo plays twice the mins as Rondo??? Just saying !!! Lol

Magiclakerz, I would appreciate if you stop your snide remarks or I will turn you in to Dave. That is against the rules trying to bait somebody into some confrontation.

KKennon: I have said all along that Zo is a good defender, good passer and does everything good for a rookie. But I do admit I get a little nervous when he starts firing three point shots. It is feast or famine on those three point attempts. I also mentioned that his slashing towards the goal is nice and LeBron will find him.
