Quote:
"Let him play the whole fourth quarter and bet you'll always win. He'll get into a better flow," Ball said. "The in and out, sitting out six to 10 minutes? He's not going to take no shots because he's not in the flow. He don't want to hurt the team by shooting."

What do you guys think? Should Lonzo Ball play more in the 4th? The bench has been doing a good job, so I'll have to disagree with LaVar. In the article, the elder Ball also said he wanted Lonzo to shoot more.

Tbh even I wondered why he was kept on the bench for the 4th quarters. They invariably bring him in with 5 mins left. Unleash him in the 4th quarter, don’t shield your face of the franchise.

I believe a lot of the time he is left on the bench, is because that unit ending the 3rd quarter has typically earned more playing time, not to bench right away. Walton is making guys buy into this team system, by actually allowing guys more minutes if they are playing well and pulling them out if they make a bunch of bad mistakes. It could ruin a young team trying to come together if you don't stick to your word as a coach.

Reprimanding players by pulling them out for making mistakes can also ruin the psyche of a young team. As a coach you need to be proactive and not reactive.

There is a fine line, but as long as the coach is fair on letting you play more minutes when your playing good. I trust Luke to find the balance and as the year goes along, our normal rotations will get smaller or less mins. I have no issues with how Walton has coached this year. We have been in a position every game to win, except for the first one against Clips.

It’s not a question of being fair, 4th quarter is when you want to see your franchise player get max exposure. There is no substitute for game time reps for figuring things out. Bringing Ball into the game with 5 mins left Is not instilling confidence. We want to win but still need to develop our rooks.

Rotations need not get smaller since that can overburden players as well. While Luke has been doing a solid job, I don’t think he’s been stellar with his rotations. That’s one knock on him. I don’t think Kuz starts if Larry doesn’t go down. And Kuz right now is the best player on this team. I’m ok with Randle off the bench since he brings energy to the second unit.

Lavar should instead advise his son to just focus on practice shooting in the gym instead of focusing on the business of endorsing products and singing. He knows what his weakness is so he should spent more time in the gym to improve and lay off other extra curricular job.

Ball plays more mins than any rookie in league except for Simmons. You know I've been a Zo supporter since before draft, but he needs to play better if he wanted to be in game during crunch time.

Watching that video of Zo vs Kuz, makes me nervous about Zo when things count , Where's that aggressiveness in games , but know he'll get there eventually.

He plays heavy mins no doubt, but I want him to play when it counts. Just like you want him to keep shooting out of the slump, you want him to figure out crunch time situations by actually playing out there in the middle. Little to learn sitting on the bench. If you want to curtail his mins do it in the first three quarters but let him play more mins in the fourth. I agree with Lavar that he is slightly out of rhythm when he’s inserted in the 4th quarter with less than 5 min left.

He will play better as the season progresses, we are just 10 games into the season. Like I said earlier we want to win but we have a bigger responsibility of developing our youngsters.

Think Lavar has more to worry about right now, than Zo's minutes.

Ball is not a good point guard yet. He is a terrible shooter and when he tries to dunk somebody always blocks his shot. If the lakers want to win they have to bring him up slow and do not listen to the mouth (LaVar).

The laker bench work better without Ball. And who is the coach anyways. If I was Luke I would tell LeVar Ball to stay out of his business.

This is a professional basketball team not a college team where responsibility is to teach not so much to win games. The name of the game in the NBA is to win at any cost. And if it means benching a slow starter like Ball, so be it. Parents always think their child is being deprived of playing time. But lets be real here. Ball is not a good player yet. Right now all I can say is that he can handle the ball and is a good passer, but he is a terrible shooter.

I like what Luke is doing right now. He is spreading the wealth to all his players. LaVar talks too much and should get out of Lukes coaching plans.

College teams are not bothered about teaching either. They need/want mins just as badly as pro teams. Too much money involved. I don't think anyone is going to disagree that the basketball fundamentals of young players is no where near the standard it should be.

Edit. That should be wins not mins.

I thought GSW was based in Oakland/Bay area. LOL. Repetions and and real game time mins can never be replicated or simulated sitting on the bench. We already caused immense harm to Russell by giving the farewell circus top priority, hindering his development eventually. Let’s not repeat the same bs with our current core.

It was meant to say college teams only care about wins. Not mins lol.

Hopefully it’s just a misunderstanding. They can buy off the entire LV store if they wanted. Smh!

Larry Brown used to be a very good college coach and teacher.
