I don't really care what he sounds like. He wasn't brought in to be the charismatic leader, that's Magic's job. He's the nuts and bolts guy, the guy who will get stuff done.

Started of slow but when they got to answering questions they gave strong answers and gave a good impression. So far i'm all in with this new FO, they will have opportunities to improve the team this offseason so we should wait until then to judge the moves they make.

On a side note, I wish someone would've asked him about the Mozgov and Deng contracts lol

I was listening to Mason & Ireland and they got to interview him shortly after the press conference, one of the questions they asked was if he had heard people comparing him to Rob Lowe, he said he gets that a lot lol

The younger pics of Lowe are actually eerily similar. They would pass off as twins.

Definitely, i'm not even gonna lie, when i found out he was going to be the next GM my initial thought was that he was in some way related to Rob Lowe, i looked it up shortly after that and to my disappointment they're not lol.

Someone needs to pass him the memo, that we here in lakerland are trying to attract Free agents and not damsels in distress...the buck stops right there. Lol

In what capacity though? I don't think he would have had enough power to make decisions, just offer his input. I'm not too concerned that he wasn't brought on board.

Getting back to Pelinka

A GM with a semblance of a future plan? I'm on board with that.

Yup he's an agent converted to FO. He will grow into the expectations press wise. Main thing is his business understanding. Of course LA expects Mr Personality. It's an obsession around here. That crazy old cult of personality thing. But it's always more important to me, how someone does their job, than how they sound or look doing it.

They fanned on J West coming back. Unreal. A critical decision there. Could alter the course of Laker history, again. If Magic doesn't work out, there will be repercussions.

Times have changed. Just as the CBA has too. No guarantee bringing him back equals success.

The franchise is finally bringing in new blood with new ideas, Shep you have been calling for this for a long time and to move on from the old boys club. It surprises me you critique the move.

We don't know the full details of what Jerry was interested in offering and at what cost. I don't see how we can make a judgement on the decision tbh.

You are correct, and I prefer non-Lakers. But no denying what J West has recently brought GSW. SO it seems to me he is a known quantity, and still relevant. I'm not sure I'm critical of Pelinka as it's again another unknown quantity and only time will tell. But as news it came as a surprise, esp with Magic involved, who knows of the good works of West, that they fanned on him. Plus his son works for the Lakers, so it would have had other benefits. I'm not saying I'm disappointed as much as surprised. Like everything else, all we can hope for is things work out.

The only benefit of Jerry West was his illustrious pedigree but more than that we keep forgetting (like you mentioned) that his Son Ryan West still works with our FO. Maybe he could have been the best mentor for his son(future GM). Who knows.

I'm on board with Pelinka. Seems like a refreshing change, time will tell.

I'm fine with Pelinka, but would have liked West. At least as a consultant. Oh Well!!!

Although i am a bit disappointed that we couldn't bring him back (at least in some capacity, maybe as a consultant) i agree that this was the right move for the franchise. Like others on here have mentioned, it's time to bring in new people with fresh perspectives and Pelinka (being part of that group) is exactly that person. As great as Jerry was as a player and GM, there's no denying the fact that he's getting up there in age (he's 78) i don't think he would have had the physical health to be the GM. He will always be a great basketball mind and forever be apart of Lakers royalty, but i'm not sure he was the right fit for this job, i'm sure he's happy where he's at now with the dynasty the Warriors have created up in the bay. He deserves to be apart of a winning culture after helping us win for so many years as a player and GM.

I don't think we can directly link GSW success to Jerry West. They were going no where with Jackson as coach. They have a great set up, from players, coaches all the way up through the organization. Jerry definitely helped but the Lakers are starting a multi year project (finally), how much longer will Jerry be around to help the Lakers if he was brought on board.
