Well, this will hurt the playoff hopes a bit, but IMO not overly difficult to overcome.

The Lakers 2016-17 schedule is now out:

http://www.nba.com/lakers/schedule/

Lakers will open at Staples Center on October 4th vs the Kings for preseason, while the regular season is also at home vs the Rockets on October 26th. Lakers will host the Clippers on Christmas Day, and end the regular season on April 12 2017 on the road vs the Warriors. What do you guys think about the schedule?

I don't understand the strength of schedule argument. In the end, it all evens out....

Think I'll be looking forward to games against other young cores, more than going up against top teams. Want to see how we stack up against Wolves, Sixers Suns.

I think Lakers fans see the schedule as difficult because we're simply bad. When we were winning championships I would look at next season's schedule game by game and I'd say, "Easy win, easy win, tough game but winnable, easy, easy..." Every game was winnable, no game was a guaranteed loss. Now when I go over the schedule game by game, all I see are losses and unwinnable games. It sucks....

ESPN Posted the most intriguing games for the Lakers and didn't even list the Wolves, which is who I'd most like to watch them play. Battle of the futures!

The strength of schedule for basketball is stupid. I guess there are different length road trips and number of back to backs? But the west all has the same schedule and the east has the same schedule.

No it doesn't. Not every team in the West plays the warriors 4 times for example. Each western conference team (same rules apply to East conf) 4 games against 6 (out-of-division) conference opponents, [4x6=24 games] 3 games against....

How does it even out?

Each team has to play:

4 games against the other 4 division opponents, [4x4=16 games]

4 games against 6 (out-of-division) conference opponents, [4x6=24 games]

3 games against the remaining 4 conference teams, [3x4=12 games]

2 games against teams in the opposing conference. [2x15=30 games]

Each division has its own strength, for example the Lakers are guaranteed to play the warriors, kings, suns and clippers 4 times each every year.

Where the raptors are guaranteed to play the Celtics, Knicks, nets and 76ers 4 times each.

The Lakers were 2 and 14 while the raptors were 14-2. Switch the Lakers into the Atlantic division and you would expect them to win more than 2 games against that caliber of competition.

Depending on the rotation the teams the Lakers play against 4 times instead of 3 also makes a big difference. Playing against the pelicans instead of the spurs increases the chance of getting a win dramatically.
