Yes, I'd like him manning the second unit while Russell develops. However, he's 32 which means Byron will want to start him and then bring Williams off the bench and Russell won't see any time until second half of the season. Byron's old school mentality is concerning to me on this rebuilding team that won't be making the playoffs.

I'm pretty sure Mitch will have a talk with him about that if it were to happen lol

I really hope that Russell is given a true opportunity to develop and he will need minutes to do that.

Not disagreeing with you, but players do develop without being starters. Having said that, yeah Russell should start, with Huertas coming off bench. Unless Russell starts out regular season playing terrible.

Russell is pretty much guaranteed the starting spot. I was against him starting at first because the second unit didn't have a PG at the time but at this point Russell should just be thrown to the wolves and start.

Upshaw already showed me more with that one play than Sacre has for the past few seasons.

I'm glad Larry got that dunk out of the way. You could tell he really wanted to get one in transition. Lol

He's really playing well and showing his versatility. Lakers could have a really deep front court in the near future.

Whatever salary they're paying MWP, pay it to him as a coach or consultant.

I know the warriors are missing some key players tonight but I just don't see them repeating last season's form.

On be half of San Diegans I'd like to apologize for the crappy arena. Every time I go to an event its always dirty, nasty, and old.

I'd rather not injuries for either sides, no need to continue the game. Just make sure this will never happen again. So many upset fans.

Despite my support of Sacre, I would have to agree. Sacre has a guaranteed contract so it's a million+ gift unless he can be traded.

I think these 6 preseason games have been enough of a sample size to help us determine who's in and who's out.

Russell/Huertas

Clarkson/Lou

Kobe/Young/Brown

Randle/Bass/Kelly/Nance

Hibbert/Upshaw/Black

Leftover are:

Frazier

Brown

MWP

Holmes

Sacre

Frazier over Brown. Sacre gone. Too many PFs already so Holmes gone. The 15th spot comes down to either Fraizer or MWP. IF we feel like Frazier deserves a spot, then sign him, cut MWP and sign him to the coaching staff.

MWP and Anthony Brown are making this team which means that they run with 15 and Jabari Brown is out. I suppose it's possible that they send Anthony Brown down to D-League and switch the two Brown's out as needed.

I wish the Lakers had not signed Bass. He's a positive in every way but I'd personally rather see the other guys getting PT, especially Nance. Looks like the Lakers got another gem in the second round this year.

I listed A. Brown behind Nick in the rotation (Probably should've put his first name to clarify). And what do you mean by switch the two browns out? Also, I don't see Brown ending up in the D league because he's become a favorite of Byrons.

I noticed he's been starting but he's virtually invisible out there. Given Kobe, Nick and several other options at the 3, he's no value to the Lakers or to himself sitting on the bench. My suggestion, which probably won't occur, is to keep both Brown's active by assigning them to the D-League and bringing them up as needed. It's almost like having a 16-man roster.

Brown doesn't look active out there on offense but he is definitely noticeable on defense. Its tempting to look at the on ball action but when you pay attention to Brown playing off ball, its evident that he makes a difference. Seeing as how Byron likes him, some nights he might get the nod over Young and vice versa. If Nick is out there chucking and clanking, Brown would be up off the bench immediately.

As for Jabari, I don't see him making the roster. I'm sure the Lakers will offer him a D league contract which means that any team can come scoop him up but him being the type of player he is, I won't lose any sleep if a team claims him.

I agree. I'm merely looking at who is here now. The Lakers let Dwight Buckys go which was ridiculous. He's far more talented that J. Brown and what about Manny Harris from a couple of seasons ago? Jabari needs to smile a bit. He looks like he always has the weight of the world on his shoulders. He is more talented than he's playing right now. I suspect he's really uptight because he knows his chances are slim to none to make the team.

I'm not beat up at all about losing Buycks and Harris. Just like Jabari, they are known for scoring and we don't need that. From what I remember, Buycks, just like Jabari, is ball dominant. Harris, I liked. He seemed to play within the offense but we can always find another Manny Harris. Heck, Michael Frazier seems to be another Manny Harris who might be a better defender and shooter. Going back to Jabari, I just don't think there is anything he can do to validate being on the roster. He doesn't make plays and from what I can tell, isn't that good of a defender.

Dave LOL, Randle is a cocky young man. He does not lack confidence. I agree though that he's testing his abilities and power and when he sees things happen such as a blow by of a top defender, it's a 'I knew I could do that' moment. He attacks recognized players. His comment was directed at first team all defense Draymond Green. Expect him to do that all season. I am thrilled to see his outside shot developing so quickly too.

Regarding Randle, I keep thinking that he ought to be granted Rookie status this year. What is the criteria for having previous experience? Like Blake Griffin and Nerlens Noel and Joel Embiid for example, why were they not rookies having missed their entire Rookie seasons? Randle would be playing for ROY honors if it weren't for 10 minutes of one game!

To be consider for stats recognition you have to have a minimum number of games. Same for the All Star Team etc. There ought to be a determination of what constitutes the actual participation in a season. I heard Huertas referred to as a Rookie tonight. I know foreign players are already pros and therefore not authentic rookies or eligible for the Roy, though 'Rookie status' is not resolved and I feel ought to be given how often first year injuries and exceptions happen.

Maybe this ought to be a separate topic?

Yeah I like his motor and fearlessness, and once he gets that jumper down he can do some serious damage. Teams for now I think will play him to drive, so he is going to have to 18-20 footer available. So far, so good! He has improved quite a lot even from the start of camp- all the hard work is paying off.

Yup. Agree with this lineup.

MWP is making the team, there is a different quality he adds as a couch on the floor or in the locker room. Different from being hired as a practice coach, and still more valuable than the others you listed in the leftovers.

I agree that several of the rookies will spend some Dleague time. Will help them get reps and build confidence. Upshaw, ABrown, and Nance will all benefit from a bit of time now and then.

I'm not normally one of the negative voices on this forum, but speaking honestly, I don't see Russell developing into a superstar. He makes some beautiful passes, but so did Kendall Marshall. His defense is actually better than I expected and he definitely has that "it" factor. I'm sure his shot will come around also. What I feel he lacks is the requisite athleticism that it requires to be a star point guard in the NBA today. Then again, who am I to second guess Jerry West?

Agree, with you Mcbill, but I never thought he'd be a superstar anyway, at least at pg. Always thought after watching him in college that he should be at sg, but do think he'll turn out to be very good player. And like you, that lack of athleticism worries me. But hey, Nash wasn't that athletic, neither is Curry right now, just has that deadly shot and great handles.
