It's best available right now. Hopefully we can also get a pick.

Hopefully we get him and some picks or a solid bench piece...

Might as well, as long as we get some asset along with him.

Please no. Had we drafted Okafor I would be in favor of having him as a defensive mentor to teach him the whole verticality method. The way our roster is constructed he just doesn't fit. Give me Koufos and Hill for the same amount.

I read the Clippers, Pacers and Mavs will try and work a sign and trade between Monta Ellis, Hibbert and Jordan. I am sure the clippers are pushing this hard since they can't get jack with the money they have left to offer.

I heard that the Mavs don't want to participate in that sign and trade because they don't want to help the Clippers

It's either him or Javal McGee for me...Hibbert is exactly what we need to round out this roster. He is a great rim protector and that's what we need especially along side Randle. Randle isn't really known for his defense unless he picked it up this past year..

I just don't see the point in signing Hibbert. I would rather resign Hill on a 3 year deal for $25/30 million. At least we could trade him in the future.

Exactly.. Hibbert will fit our team, a rim protector, and a decent passer,

and Hibbert is a free agent next year, so its win-win

I agree that he isn't really a good fit with our roster because I think we will be more of a fastbreak team. That's the reason I wanted biyombo.

However, he will be playing in a contract year so he will definitely be playing well for a new contract. I also think he wanted/needed a change of scenery. He is also a career 74% ft shooter and has a nice midrange game.

At the very least I think he will be a nice trade chip at the deadline. And if they can get a pick even better.

It's being reported as a straight salary dump by the pacers. So no one.

If they manage to unload nick young though, that be a great deal.

Every team in the NBA is going to have major cap space next summer. Maintaining cap space is not forward thinking. It is looking ahead with blinkers on. The lakers will have $50 million if not more next summer. is an extra $20 million going to make that much of a difference?

The list of FA's available next summer is not exactly inspiring.

Well for one we would end up getting his bird rights which is what we really need to do. The Cavs were smart last year trading for all these guys and now they have all of their bird rights so their able to just throw out all of this ungodly amount of money to everybody. If we started doing that too we would be able to do the same thing. Plus that gives us even more money next year to spend. Kobe's 25 mil, 22 mil with the salary cap hike and then hibbert's 15 mil. That's 62 mil in cap space next year that's exactly where the salary cap is at now and we will still have Young, Russell, Clarkson, Randle on the roster...Lakers should easily be able to come up with a better plan with that much money to be able to us like combining multiple players to sign to the team.

I don't know man, Young's 5 mil starting next year will be a steal of a deal if you as me...he'd probly be worth 9 mil or so starting next year.

Forgive me for asking but how does a "salary" dump work in this situation?

The only way you can do something like this is if you are trading the player to a team that has enough cap space to take on the salary you are trading to them. And so in the Pacers case they would end up getting a 15 mil trade exception is the way I believe it to work unless I am mistaken.

Basically you can trade a player to a team and not take back any contracts if the whole salary can be absorbed by the team taking the player. Teams do this and generally get a sweetener for doing it. This is how the 76ers have picked up a lot of their picks.

No reason for Mavs to do a S&T if Jordan is willing to give up the extra year, which he is. The Clippers are screwed. As for Hibbert, that trade doesn't do much in my mind. You might as well just re-sign Jordan Hill.

The only players they have thrown money to is players that they have bird rights to. You can not sign free agents then sign your own players with bird rights. It does not work like that.

Signing Hibbert will also put a huge cap hold on the Lakers cap space next season until they either re-sign him or renounce his rights. Ditto with Kobe. Clarkson will be due a new contract and he is not going to sign for $1 million.

For those who haven't scouted Russell, he is at his best during half court sets because of his lack of foot speed and how smart he is at decision making, I don't know where you guys are getting this fast break team from. Is it because we are young? Plus Byron is a half court coach. Hibbert would be fine here.

Your right I forgot about the cap hold...but if we can trade for some young talent like they did with mozgov and shumpert guys like that their cap holds aren't that big

The pacers have no picks incoming or outgoing. I see the Lakers asking for a 1st and 2nd round pick over separate years.

For those of you that may not be liking the idea of Hibbert coming to LA I just read this stat about him. Teams only shot 42.6% at the rim against Hibbert last year. That's a pretty amazing stat considering were talking about right at the rim shots.

Definitely agree with this...Clarkson and Randle are both quick and can run the fastbreak easy but the others on the team aren't known for their speed.

Yes but the way the pacers play D and the way the Lakers play D is completely different. The pacers force guards/forwards towards the rim where Hibbert is located. The lakers have zero players where you can say an attribute is defense. If he was so good the Pacers wouldn't give him away for nothing.

I like Hibbert for the sole reason of his expiring contract and possibly getting an additional asset. We could potentially trade him around the deadline to a team wanting an expiring contract and we could pick up some young pieces. I think Hibbert would be a poor fit with this team. With Russell, Clarkson, Randle, Black, Nance Jr, etc, we are going to be a team that is going to get out and run. Hibbert is just going to slow us down and let's be honest, he isn't going to help us much in the win column. But I do think he would be good for an expiring contract and hopefully a pick.

I like the move if it goes down. This would give Randle help under the rim. Great to have a 7 footer to hold down a young team. This team might have a ton of star power but it will be a joy to watch them. Nice backup plan by Mitch.

Their all young enough to learn how to play team defense now. They might have tried to learn last year but they didn't really have a legit rim protector last year.

Solid trade by Mitch. From the outside looking in, looks like we got him for nothing and if we don't end up liking what it is he has to offer, he gets off the books for next year. Definitely a win for us. Still a letdown that we weren't able to get anyone throughout free agency but this helps bolster the front court a a little bit. Definitely need more pieces though.
