If this is true then what troubles me is how Lakers management seems to have misread Aldridge and what his priorities are. Maybe this kind of spiel may have worked with other FAs but apparently it doesn't work with Aldridge, and this is something Lakers management should have known by doing their due diligence on the guy. Sad.

I wholeheartedly agree. Now I don't think that Aldridge was the perfect fit for us anyway, as I'd much rather sign a rim protector and/or wing, but it is concerning how they completely mishandled this meeting. I just hope that they learn from this fiasco and go sign some FAs to address our glaring needs at C and SF.

But as long as they don't anything stupid and trade away one of our Young 3, I think we'll be fine.

I still don't know why any of you actually thought we could lure a 30 yr old all-star FA to this squad?

What happened to all of you that use to be like "wtf Mitch we need to get younger!"

What happened to all of you that were like "wtf Mitch so many PFs whose going to play center."

Just because we got a meeting with him made you all want him and then think that we actually had a real shot.

Present and accounted for sir!

  • I have held firm on us not getting Aldridge. What's the point of acquiring a 30 year old power forward? Everyone else on the team sans Kobe is very young.

  • I'm also one of the same people who has questioned Mitch's roster balance, too many bodies at one position. One year it's point guards another year it's power forwards.

  • why set up a meeting? It's because they wanted him and it gave hope to some of the impatient fan base. They tried to sell Aldridge on the Lakers. Their pitch was you're the next Gasol and you'll love the city and entertainment opportunities.

The FO will continue to strike out with the big names as long as they talk about history, location and so-so basketball. If they can't step up and get some new blood in there who understands the importance of changing with the times then we will be stuck.

I think the Lakers should first be a competitive team just like the Suns right now, next they must have a direction, a grand plan just what the Warriors had. Then we must have a system that works just like what the Spurs and Hawks have. After all of that, then the glitz and glamour may or may not be discuss with the possible free agent.

Exactly. The Suns are now a viable location for bigger names because of what they've put together in the desert. That team is becoming better and if they luck out and get Aldridge then now you're talking about a seriously good team. Our FO likes to scramble around after the big names and they waste their time doing so because they have nothing to offer.

We never had a chance at LA with other teams who are light years ahead of us in contendership. Suns have proven two straight years they could make the playoffs in the west with their team how it is. Adding Tyson and a much younger core then the Spurs make them a good fit for any FA. My only issue with Spurs when it comes to LA going their is their health. If they Duncan, Parker, Ginobli go down (very plausible) Spurs will start to fall as well. There overall plan is based on these guys staying healthy and taking less money. Spurs are old, only father time isn't being as mean to them as it is Kobe right now, but it will catch them and LA will be their to play with Lenard. Those two guys alone can't get it done.

It's time to amnesty Kobe, the biggest egotistic ball hog in the history of NBA who nobody wants to play with. How many big names we have lose out on because of him and his massive contract (this part Lakers is partially at fault too) at the end of his career?

If not, I hope the Lakers do as bad as last year so that 1.) we get another lottery pick to continue to rebuild and 2.) Kobe likely retires and leaves a legacy for everyone to remember as someone who destroyed the team because he does not want to be a team player.

As much as I don't like Lebron (too big of an attention seeker), at least he is a team player who attracts other stars and can put his ego aside to win games. that's where Kobe fails.

I will root for the Lakers again once Kobe is no longer with Lakers.

Lol this post is a joke...spoiled a** fan who's not getting his way. Pay respects to the man who's going to go down as the best in this franchise's history and has bought five championships to the city of LA. Over here posting stupid **** because we missed out on a couple of second tier all stars...people like you are the reason as to why laker fans get a bad rep.

Just saw a tweet from Woj saying the Lakers are trying to get a 2nd meeting set up with LMA.

Interesting...if they do get a 2nd meeting I like their chances honestly.

If everything falls into our hands, it may save the organization face and viability toward recruiting future free agents. I say we still stay the course with the rebuild and recruit the pieces that will grow with our core. No matter what, the organization needs to remodel their approach and methods for the health of their future.

Or it could be Aldridge just feeling bad for what was leaked about the first meeting, and doing damage control.

The times do change quickly. It was just a couple of years ago that so many fans on this board expressed how overrated the Morey analytics approach to basketball was. The thought of it even made them angry. Many thought the MIT Sloan Sports Analytics Conference was basically a waste of time and was just for geeks who don't even know the basics of the game. Wrong, wrong, wrong.

Stats are not everything for sure, but they can draw a very important picture for GM's who otherwise have trouble seeing things. Some players are far more effective for the bottom-line of winning than us fans realize, and some players are not even close to as great as most of the media portrays them to be.

I don't know about blaming Mitch or Kobe on this. I think that LaMarcus knows what he is doing. If he would want to join the team he would. He knows the history of the organization. He understand the process. He knows the roster of the team. Championships doesn't come easy. It takes time to get there. The Lakers can't win it every years as some fans expected. There will always be building process. In the grey zone. The last period I recalled was fives years between the last two championships. It is thus been approximately three years since then. I say if he joins. He will a champion within the next two years. I don't blame anyone on this. I know we will rise again!

Seadog, You said it perfectly. That's how it works here with a certain portion. If you praise Kobe and ignore all the stupid sh*t he has done (and it's pretty hard to ignore all the stupid sh*t he has done over the years right up to that Aldridge meeting as the latest case), you're fine. If you bring the bad stuff up then you are a hater or a know it all. The reason why I am forced to bring the bad stuff about Kobe and Mitch us is.....they keep doing stupid, dumb a** sh*t. Over and over. The problem with these guys is the don't have a leg to stand on anymore. Going back five years all the major positions on Kobe and this team they took ended up being proved wrong by the passage of time. So know all they can do is say silly non sequitur like "hater, troll, know it all... blah..blah..blah." That is also why you see one poster trying to bring up the old, does Kobe shoot too much or not debate. This is not about that debate at all. This is about the meeting and how Kobe and Mitch literally chased Aldridge out of LA by what they said to him there. And since there is no defense about what happened in that room, now they gotta take it onto a totally different subject. There were a lot of comments here talking about how I was too hard on Kobe and Mitch or that my post reeked of hate. How so? Shaq was very blatant with his comment about hate and my sources. JJ Cali defended Kobe in the meeting. My sources were Adrian Wojnowski and LA Times Lakers beat writer Jimmy Bresnan. These two guys are very respected in their profession. What kind of sources are you....

To put it into perspective, Lamarcus and other free agents chose that had greater of chance on them winning.let's build on these youngsters and see who we can get for the future.theres nothing to debate about anymore. Kobe is old and we have no other assets also our young guys who hasn't play an Nba game yet see Randle and Russel doesn't entice a free agent to come here.simple as that.(sorry for my bad English) it's hard to type on tablet.
