Los Angeles Lakers President Jeanie Buss was on ESPN all morning yesterday. She got an early start at the network on SportsCenter, followed by First Take and Numbers Never Lie, all great forums for the Lakers partial owner and H.L.I.C (head lady in charge). She gave insight into the Lakers' current struggles while remaining optimistic on this season and addressing a few other pertinent issues. She didn't hold back any punches on her appearance either. In what was most likely the Lakers' official response to Henry Abbott's ESPN article accusing Kobe Bryant of being an overall cancer for the Lakers, Jeanie....

Personally, while I think Kobe does have that fire to win championships, I think he realizes it most likely won't happen. The organization showed a lot of commitment to him when they gave him that 2 yr/$48 million contract before even stepping on the court again. Judging from what I hear him say in interviews, he's grateful for that more than anything.

This may be off subject, but the reason other big stars have not came to LA to play with Kobe is NOT because they don't want to play with him. Its the fact that the overall team is not good enough to win if that *so call star came and teamed up with Kobe. Top free Agents typically want to come into a elite team or just stay where their at.

Living in a nice area like LA is not more important then winning a ring and right now the Lakers have no chance even if they signed one other big FA this year. Media blaming Kobe is just a way to stir stuff up and that's the media's job.

Once the Lakers are in a position to where one big move makes them title contenders, FA willing be knocking on our front door, that's just how it works.

DH: He left, duh he just played a year in which they got booted our by Spurs and the other 2 stars just got a year older.

LBJ: Why would he choose LA when he could stay in Miami or go to Cavs which is younger and more potential.

Melo: Why would he pick LA, when he could of chose Bulls or just stay in Knicks. Top FA do not want to be known as the guy who played on 5 different teams in their prime.

The NBA has always worked this way. Can you name a top 1-15 player that went to a crappy team once he became a FA during his prime years? Unless he was staying with his team from the year before.

Kobe chose money over winning. That's no longer a well guarded secret. The cat or rather snake is out of the bag. No one put a gun on his head and forced him to take that money. It was his legacy which was at stake, and just like Duncan, nowitzki, Lebron and others he could have politely declined and asked for additional resources/help instead. People ( Awestruck Kobe fans) quickly jump to his defense with a BS rationale that no employee would turn down such a generous offer! However aren't Duncan/nowitzki/Lebron/ wade/ Bosh employees???? If Kobe deserved that money for the five rings, didn't Duncan deserve that huge pay day too? He would have equalled Jordan's 6 rings, had it not been for that Ray Allen "Hail Mary" and the collective brain fart on the part of the Spurs in the dying seconds! There was another report which clearly revealed that Jeannie buss was the one who was very keen to give kobe the $50m present, and in the process tie up our cap space. I am no supporter of these Buss siblings, however in this case I have to say that Jim Buss wanted to wait and watch before committing to Kobe's extension. He wanted to see how kobe progressed after the serious injuries. Jeannie was the one who pulled the trigger and showed impatience, giving her usual BS "my daddy would have done the same thing"... routine . This cliche will never get old until someone boots her out of town as top priority!!! Kobe has been reduced to mere entertainment value for the people of Los Angeles and Kobe fans. It's like, going to the movies to watch the Kobe show while munching on some buttered movie popcorn! Winning has become secondary....

If you define winning as "let's all make 5million less to make a dream-team and steal the system", which is what Lebron has been doing yes, he chose money over "winning".

You are right. Lebron took $15m in his prime, and as the best bb player on the planet while a 35 yr old Kobe was getting $30m. Now, a year later, this 36 yr old (shadow of himself)Kobe ensured that he is still the highest paid player in the league.

For the record Duncan won last year. How much does he make? Forget Lebron...lets talk Duncan 😀😀

It's pretty rare that a guy who is a top 15 player like you mentioned goes to a team with a nonexistent roster. I got into a debate over Shaq coming to LA. I mentioned how Shaq came here not just because of the area but because of the roster that was in place, Eddie Jones, Elden Campbell, Nick Van Exel, Ceballos. It was a playoff team and Shaq saw himself taking them over the top. No way he would have came to LA if it was bare bones like we had this offseason. Granted there was nothing attractive about coming to LA besides the area, I think Kobe is an issue also. We are talking about a player who said to the media it's his team. He also said to the media that he eats at the table first and he has said other things. These things are pretty well-documented but it's out of Kobe's own mouth.

But it appears that the public persona of the Lakers is going to change soon. By the Allstar Break, I predict that this team will be in full gear. Nash will probably be replaced with someone fairly good. Our injured guys will be healed, and our players will know where everyone is supposed to be at any given moment in the game.

Right now, the chemistry is great with this group, and they are playing effective defense almost all night. They are not turning the ball over that often (unless you consider Westley Johnson having a bad night). They are rebounding better than they have in a very long time. And, everything is team ball. That's right, team. Each of these concepts were absent when the Phony coached this team. Byron is creating exactly what the Lakers needed; a defense focused team oriented group of players with extreme talent.

Yup, it's a motley crew, but they are very effective, and it can only get better! Early in the season expect some growing pains. But these guys are the real deal. Much more potential than the group assembled last year, even before the injuries.

This is going to be fun to watch them develop their potential. Much more fun than I thought during the off-season.

Yeah but that's going against teams who were barely playing their starters.

Well now we know who is an optimist, and who is a pessimist, don't we?

Lol, I prefer the term realist.

Honestly I do feel they'll surprise some teams when they're healthy and I can't honestly say we will, a 41 win team. I'm optimistic in us winning around 29 to 34 games.

Whatever their record when the season is over, you've got to believe that this season will be more fun to watch than last season and the one before that. This style of play is much more compelling than all offense with no defensive presence at all.

I fully agree. I'm looking forward to seeing the second unit a lot more than the first to be honest. They will come in the game and run a little bit, play defense and so on. I think the first unit will be a little stagnant. Ronnie Price, Kobe, Johnson, Boozer and Hill will have us seeing pick and pop and post up with a whole bunch of jumpshots. The second unit will have speed and youth, it will definitely be more fun to watch.

I'd like to weigh in here for the question in the topic: No.

Alternative, but equally potent answer: Right after you see snowballs in hell and flying carpets around Staples Center.

I wouldn't say it is impossible! Check out Jeannie's interview on ESPN 710 earlier this year, where she claimed that she "was the one...the boss.....the only one on top of the food chain" She further added that all the Buss siblings report to her and that she had the last say in all personnel/business matters. Personally I feel she is quite a loose cannon, who is quite capable of sensationalizing insignificant situations for publicity/limelight.

Fwiw... they don't share a great relationship.

The answer to the question is "NO". It's family at the end of the day. Demote possibly, fire "NO".
