I've read a lot of posts speculating how Kobe will do this upcoming NBA season post-injury. Considering his age, coming off the leg/achilles problems, and of course on the flip side, his drive, competitiveness, work ethic, determination and talent, what do think will his numbers will be this year?

Here are my predictions:

  • Minutes per game: 31

  • FG%: 43%

  • 3pt %: 32%

  • Points PG: 18.5

  • Assists PG: 4.5

  • Rebounds PG: 5

  • Games Played: 68

Those would be pretty solid numbers, though I wouldn't be surprised if the Black Mamba exceeded them.

Be careful speculating Dave people around here don't like it. They think the only opinion should be pro laker lol.

Here are my predictions:

  • Minutes per game: 30

  • FG%: 42%

  • 3pt %: 30%

  • Points PG: 20.5

  • Assists PG: 4.9

  • Rebounds PG: 5.1

  • Games Played: 60

I say only 60 games played because the lakers play 14 games back to back. I really hope they intend resting him most of those nights.

LOL- sure yeah why not I'll make it a contest. Whoever comes the closest in guessing Kobe's Points Per Game AND Games Played will get a $15 Amazon Gift Card at the end of the 2014-2015 regular season. PPG & Games Played would have equal 50% weight value in calculating who gets the closest. Tie breaks are given for those who put in their guesses first, and of course guesses are only valid if made before the first regular season game. Entries once made cannot be edited, and only one entry is allowed per person.

Good luck guys!

I think you are very close on most of your predictions. The only category that caught my eye was assists. I think because he may be limited in other ways, Kobe is going to pass the ball more to guys like Young, who can really hit the hoop if he passes the ball to them.

I'd guess more like 8-10 assists a night, maybe more. Right now, its all speculation, because we don't know who is going to be brought in to save the day at the last minute of free agency or just before the trade deadline. We've still only got 13 players. I still expect them to make a move or two before the season begins.

I think we are going to see the Kobe that played under MDA. He will facilitate and become more efficient. The only difference being he will play less minutes and not play full throttle like he is used to doing. Unfortunately I thin his TO will stay at around 3.5 because this will still be a season of adjustments for him. He has to see what his body can and can't do and he will still try stuff he used to be able to do and turn the ball over when he finds out he can't. More passing means more turnovers for him as well even with reduced minutes. I don't know if people will say I am being too optimistic or not, but the way that I look at it is the jump from a 22 point scorer to a 27 point scorer in the NBA is huge. It's the difference between a star and a superstar. So for Kobe to even drop down to 22 is huge imo. I do think during the big games, the statement games or the nationally televised games he will rev it up a bit and revert back to the old Kobe. Should we make the playoffs we will see it even more. But for regular season, he will chill. The funny thing is, even if he puts up those stats, people will write all sorts of articles about his demise when those numbers are actually really good, even all star caliber. I'm hoping he does better and proves me wrong, but hopefully still limits his minutes.

This is my one huge worry. Will the lakers be strong enough to tell Kobe to get out of the game or will they relent to him. Kobe needs to look no further than Nash and see how much controlling his minutes in Phoenix pro longed his career. Obviously Kobe knows his body better than anyone but fatigue is the major cause of any injury in any sport.

I'd give him 25 ppg easy. Not sure about the rest. I say this because Kobe stated in an interview with Stephen A. years ago that he wouldn't stick around to average 18 ppg a game.

LakerZip- that would be a very high # for Kobe, I mean he'd essentially be top 6 or 7 in the NBA in assists. But yeah with Lin being more of a scorer, I suppose KB could potentially average up to 6 and a half handouts a game. We'll see though.

BTW guys as a reminder if you want to qualify for the $15 Amazon GC contest, make sure you submit your prediction for both PPG AND # of games played.

I hope Kobe will post up more this year and cut down his 3 point FGA. He'll probably have an even higher FGA since he most likely won't be used to/trust his new teammates until probably the all star break and be less efficient in scoring. He'll probably have an especially low 3 point FG%. I think he'll share ball handling situations with Lin depending on the match ups and will probably have higher TO average due to new teammates and missing a year of basketball.

If Kobe averages 20 or more, this means he's holding the ball and other than Nash, the Lakers are no longer a half court team. Further, Kobe will likely not risk hard drives to the hoop in the half court or on fast breaks so assume 4-5 baskets and 8-10 foul shots / game utilizing his exceptional turnaround and post moves. He has the opportunity to facilitate more but with a healthy Nash, Lin and the Rook, the latter two whom are gonna penetrate and kick, Kobe will have the ball in his hands less and he's not gonna tolerate becoming a spot-up shooter so this combo won't click and he may find himself only playing 25-28 minutes per game mostly when Nash is in the game who will have about the same amount of PT.

Kobe will try his best to get his scoring average somewhere in the mid 20's and doing so will make his FG% suffer. I also think he will facilitate more than usual and average a higher amount of assists and turnovers.

Haha, I've been browsing this site for quite some time now and this post made me want to create a profile. I'm an avid Lakers fan living in Utah. I don't know about some of the replies to this post before, but I'm very optimistic about Kobe and the Lakers this season. With all the crap that Kobe and the Lakers have been getting recently, I can see Kobe going off this season. I believe the Lakers will get at least 40 wins. As for Kobe's stats.

Three things Kobe needs to do this season for the Lakers: score efficiently, help on boards, AND push/lead the break. The only guys on this roster that should leak out for transition are Lin, Henry, Nash, and Young.

Kobe was and is still an elite player, There is no other player in the NBA other than possibly Lebron that fill the seats like Kobe has and still will and like Byron Scott said he may still be playing more than two years as for me I want him to play even if he is in a wheel chair. He would still be better than many if not most of the league.

The way people talk on this site one would think managing a billion dollar business is easy It isn't. Especially when you are attempting to follow a class act like Dr Buss. Jim isn't yet but i believe he will grow into it and I seriously doubt ANYONE on here could do better. Jim is an analytical genius as actually this team shows. Every player on here i believe was a top ten or better draftee with the exception of Clarkson and he should have been a first rounder and a possibly top five IMHO. Sports is a big business and the brothers and sisters will not put up with Jim if he doesn't show he can do the job. He has made some great decisions and some bad ones. Stop all the whinning and moaning for goodness sakes and send the team some positive energy for as we give so do we receive. Show me one owner or GM that makes perfect decisions every time in fact show me any one that does, even the Donald went bankrupt at least three times that I know o.f Blessings. one and all GO LAKERS

He hasn't played for a year and you can truly say that he is still an elite player? Your hoping he is still an elite player. He's had a great run but these next two years can't go by fast enough for fans of the Lakers franchise and not Just Kobe the player.

I fault Jim Buss for not dropping Kupchak. The Lakers franchise is in trouble as long as they hold onto the practice of halting operations while star searching.

For scoring the only way i could figure would be to be negative points and who ever had the least combined won. (Dave may choose something different) Dave said they had equal weighting.

For every 0.1 away from the correct ppg would be -1 and every game away from his games played would also be -1

Dave had 18.5 and 68 (-38 and - 33) Total of -71

Tempy 20.5 and 60 (-18 and -25) Total of -43

Lakersnet79 22 points and 65 games (-3 and -30) Total of -33

Shaq 19.6 and 74 (-27 and -39) Total of -66

userpete 25ppg easily no games (Disqualified)

purpcity24s 28 points no games (Disqualified)

oclakerfan8 22ppg and 71 games (-3 and -36) Total of -39

skyeword 19ppg and 62 games (-33 and -27) Total of -60

watchtheskyfall24 26.2ppg and 77 games (-39 and -42) Total of -81

lala-landshow24 24ppg and 69 games(-17 and - 34) Total of -51

dfishsuperfan 23.2 and 73 (-9 and -38) Total of - 47

lakerever 22.5 and 70 (-2 and 35 ) Total of -37

crewlakers 25.3 and 70 (-30 and -35) Total of -65

Luke 22.8 and 71 (-5 and -36) Total of -41

thelegendarydino 22.5 and 72 (-2 and -37) Total of -39

fluke32 22.2 and 67 (-1 and -32) Total of -33

losangeleslakers 23.6 and 73 (-13 and -38) Total of -51

lakerbloodnodoubt 23.4 and 68 (-11 and -33) Total of -44

dwarth04 20-24ppg and no games (Disqualified)

jlaker 18-22 ppg and no games (Disqualified)

So that would make the winners Lakersnet79 and fluke 32 with totals of -33.

The tiebreak is entries that come in first so Lakersnet79

First game for next season. 7/29 6 assist, 5 reb, 5 TO. and 8 argument with the refs about not getting foul. Then calls out Clarkson to pass more to him.
