The summer league is almost upon us, and will provide everyone with a good look at the exciting new rookie Julius Randle. Just how many games he will play remains to be seen. It will also be a good chance to see second round draft pick Jordan Clarkson in action as well. Randle will not be on team till we fill out rooster. They are purposely waiting to sign him for some additional wiggle room on our rooster. We can go over cap to give him his rookie deal.

Those are the guys I'm looking forward to seeing as well. Also laquinton ross, Trevor mbakwe and Kevin Murphy might make the team if melo signs and takes all the cap. Ross is a big Sf who can hit the 3 and Murphy is a 6'6 sg with good athleticism and a great 3pt shot. Mbakwe could give you the hustle jordan hill gives you as well, he averaged 10 and 10 in under 30 minutes playing in Italy last season.

Clarkson, randle and kane are going to be fun to watch though.

all the media were saying that Melo will make his decision during the weekend and will present it on Monday. It is Tuesday. Funny how so many people believe these stupid liars

I have been seeing pictures and what not from summer league practice but is there any videos anywhere I can watch from their practice?

I really hope that Mbakwe gets a lot of playing time in summer league. He looks athletic and he looks like he may be able to be a mini rim protector which the Lakers sorely need.

Although it says the guy is 6'8, I am very impressed with his athleticism and defensive ability. I think he would be a great guy to pick up and let develop. I guess we'll see how he plays in summer league.

At 24 years old, Mbakwe is one of the oldest players in the draft, which limits his potentialVery uncomfortable shooting jumpers, and his range doesn't expand beyond 8-10 feet After an ACL tear seven games into the 2011-1012 season, Mbakwe lost a step when he returned: his PPG dropped 3.9 and his RPG dropped 1.8 from his junior to senior year ... Raw offensively, he has few well-developed post moves and relies mainly on his athleticism to get baskets A bit undersized for a big man Has a tendency to disappear, as he took 5 or fewer shots in 14 games his senior year His health causes some concerns after multiple knee surgeries and problems Has had multiple run-ins with the law (accused of assault in 2009, violated restraining order in 2011, suspended for DUI in 2012)

There are some things that worry me a little about him... including his multiple knee surgeries.

Well since his senior year he played a year in Italy and it sure looked like he was completely healthy from his highlights. Lakers don't have many options so honestly every guy they are going to be looking at to fill the roster are going to have limitations especially at the 4 and 5 positions. I'm just saying he looks like an athletic guy who values defense and rebounding and that seems to have been the lakers weakness the last few years so I am hoping he does well in summer league to possibly earn a spot.

Watching the game as well....Kendall Marshall still not very good...even in summer league...

How can anyone think he is a better PG then Lin? Lin is no Allstar but he is a better player.

Love me some clarkson, watched him all last year at mizzou (I'm from there). My prediction was he would be a started for Lakers, but with Lin now he will be our back up. I can't wait, very nice game today.

I don't even want to see Marshall play in summer league. Give Kane more run and Beaubois. Clarkson played great. If he develops that mid range pull up and continues to work on his three point shot, he made end up being a huge steal as a second round pick. Also, Murphy can score pretty well. Hopefully we get to see Randle out there.

I was able to catch the game when i got home, and after watching each player only two impressed me so far one being Clarkson and the other being Trevor Mbakwe, he played really tough and hustled hard on the boards , he also showed flashes of his athleticicsm. Clarkson did a decent job given the fact that he went 7-15 from the field but was able to score 21 points, he did show flashes of we could do but still needs some developing. I agree, everyone is waiting to see Randle out there hopefully he's ready for sunday

^ adding on to this I definitely believe that Randle is a strong candidate for ROTY this upcoming season. he may even be the steal of the draft. The only other player i see competing with him is Jabari Parker. A little of topic but i am very skeptical on Wiggins, i view him as a player that will either be a bust or a good role player. He lacks two very important attributes one being his body, he is very thin for either the SF or SG position he will easily get pushed around by players that play in his position, second and most importantly his mentality. Anyone who watched the Jayhawks play last season could tell you that Wiggins disappeared through long stretches throughout the season, one being in their final game against Stanford. A player has to be mentally strong in order to compete in the NBA let alone be a star. And for the other prospect Embiid, i was very high on him but that injury is seriously going to put huge question marks on him and in my opinion philly is the wrong place for him to develop. Exum is an unknown, not proven yet. Gordon is a project. Smart, Randle, and Parker are the only one's left due to their strong competitive mentality. All three had to lead their teams in multiple categories in order to succeed but with boston's logjam at the guard positions..i see smart developing slowly. In my opinion it will either be Parker or Randle for ROTY, unless another prospect has a break through.

Students of the game will recognize Marshall as the essential team player. When the coach and the players are down with playing as a unit, he shines. He would be exceptional on a team like San Antonio because quite frankly, they are a team. Fans want excitement and attitude and highlight reels like racing fans who quietly admit they watch car races for the crashes. Marshall is an exceptional team player and he is not an individual threat. A point guard's main role is to lead the team and get the ball in the hands of scorers. The Modern NBA has placed top athletes in that position who also can score and it plays to the fans preferences but not what's best for the team. Westbrook is a great example. When Marshall first showed up with the Lakers last season they were starving for guidance and leadership because none was available on the floor and nothing was coming from D'antoni and in that context, Marshall shined with a string of games where he has 12-16 assists and a few scoring outbursts as well. When they returned to D'Antoni's selfish tun and gun system, he vanished. Marshall will lead the league in assists nearly every year if he gets to play on a team that is team oriented ad utilizes a pass first guard properly. This though is certainly not the Lakers despite their own tradition of PG's like Magic and Nixon and Van Exel and others! Regarding the other Summer League PG prospects, Booboo (Not even gonna try and spell his name) is a scorer and is not a legit PG. He is a 1 who would be a 2 if he was taller so he is out. Clarkson the....

You might be right, but after watching game, the only team ball Marshall should be playing on is H.S. He really looked that bad. I expected more from him playing against rookies and D-league players. Hope next game is better! !

then again he is how old again???? Give it time before judging.. And what if he is no bulky like an mwp... Look at KD...everyone said he was skinny coming into the league and look at him now ..still skinny! I Hope he goes to Minny.

On this team, i think you are right Randle could be rookie of the year. But I still would have Draft Wiggins, Exum, embiid over him if they were still on board Draft night.

Marshall is fine when he plays within himself and doesn't try to do to much. When he does try to do to much he becomes a turnover machine. If he can make his open shots and hit the open players and not get torched defensivly he can be a decent PG in the right system.
