"Marshall has reached out to Los Angeles Lakers head coach Mike D'Antoni about its head coaching vacancy, a source close to D'Antoni confirmed to CBSSports.com on Thursday night.

ESPN.com first reported the interest from Marshall. But D'Antoni is interested, too, a source said.

"I would think his days are numbered based on Kobe saying he had no interest in playing for him next year," a source told CBSSports.com. "If he isn't with the Lakers, I believe he will be at Marshall because there is mutual interest."

The source added that Marshall has donors willing to pony up money in an attempt to woo D'Antoni."

That would be great if DA leaves for the Marshall job.

When Kobe speaks, everybody listens. Yellow_Flash_Colorz_PDT_08

Kobe should call him and tell him he'd be better off taking the job.

He more than likely would do very well at Marshall running his system because these would be young guys that can run up and down the floor which caters to his system. If he takes the job, I wouldn't be surprised in a couple of years his team could be a bracket buster in the NCAA tournament. Yes he's done a horrible job with the Lakers but lets not act like he can't coach. His downfall with LA is his unwillingness to change his philosophy. He wouldn't have to change his philosophy in college because he could recruit the type of players he wants. And guess what?....No salary CAP...LOL!!!!

Yea he can go. But how much more will this guy contribute into making draft day more of a crap shoot than it is now? Better off Marshall Community than University. That way I know he won't be manufacturing poo poo into this league.

::::: highest possible peaking point sigh of relief:::::: I don't even mind if we suck or rebuild as long as that guy isn't in our locker room. D'antoni is probably one of the biggest mistakes in franchise history.

Almost everyone saw what was coming when the Phony was hired over PJ. This proves that we are smarter than our front office. We knew that the scores of each game would be high, and we saw that the opposing teams would almost always outscore our guys due to no defense. There are no surprises here. The Phony has done exactly what his record and history would have predicted.

As Yogi Berra would have said, "Fire the bum."

For a good laugh see this site - full of similar Yogi quotes.

LOL! you ain't lying there Temp , Lakers front office will be better off drawing names for head coach's along with anymore great idea's out of a hat blindfolded this next time around., 2 mistakes that altered laker history also brand. A Lot of money was wasted no one will ever know how many more rings could have been or not something has to turn over for the good at the top for our franchise or its going to get worse. I don't give a sh*t though I still wear my Laker gear up proud .

I don't think the Mile Brown hire was very impactful. We actually won one more game in the playoffs than we did the previous year with Phil. Completely agree with you on the MDA mistake though.

Looks like not...sighhhhh Mike D'Antoni not expected to take Marshall job By Jeff Borzello | College Basketball Writer April 23, 2014 12:00 am ET Marshall has had one of the longer coaching searches this spring, and the main reason is Mike D'Antoni. The Thundering Herd were targeting the Los Angeles Lakers coach as their next coach, but they were waiting to find out whether D'Antoni would be available. On Tuesday, Marshall got its answer: Mike D'Antoni is not expected to take the vacant coaching job with the Thundering Herd, sources told CBSSports.com. One source was under the impression that D'Antoni would have been Marshall-bound if the Lakers fired him. CBSSports.com reported in March that there was mutual interest between the two sides. The Charleston Daily Mail first reported the news, with further details on the courtship between Marshall and D'Antoni. It is clear Hamrick went all-in to lure D'Antoni from the bright lights of L.A. to the hills of West Virginia. The Herd AD visited D'Antoni in Los Angeles for four days to make his pitch for D'Antoni to come home. D'Antoni, 62, played college ball at Marshall from 1970-73, about 130 miles from his hometown of Mullens. Make no mistake - there was mutual interest. That is why the coaching search is at 40 days and counting. Hamrick waited. And waited. And waited. If the Lakers made a move, Hamrick was ready to pounce and D'Antoni was ready to slip on that Kelly green jacket once and for all. D'Antoni met with Lakers brass - team executive Jim Buss and general manager Mitch Kupchak - multiple times this week to discuss D'Antoni's future with the organization. At this point, the Lakers just aren't going to budge and are adamant about keeping D'Antoni as the coach. D'Antoni is two years through a three-year, $12 million contract he signed on Nov. 12, 2012.....

This sounds like a flat out lie. The reporters covering the Lakers continue to say not to believe this, that the FO has yet to meet with MDA and still plan to. I was somewhat believing this till it stated they have met with him several times.

Maybe they have. Who knows. Who is lying? The Lakers or a misinformed reporter? Hard to say...but worth following, and using as a lead article in a MDA watch thread anyways. It's a place to start...the clock it ticking on the future of our team.

I know what you mean. But I'll put more faith that the Lakers beat writers know what's going on more than a college paper on the east coast.

Mitch kupchak says they're going to take a couple of weeks to evaluate the seaSon. I guess that means we better chill out before We Give ourselves a heart attack. Nothing will happen for another week or so.

Watch Dan turn out to be the real guru of run and gun... With defense.

Hopefully Dan leaving is a sign that Mike is on his way out as well.
