Lol this is the worst bio I have seen on Wikipedia lol even Fidel Castro has more positive things on his page..I guess there isn't much to say about this guy afterall.. And the laker fans that support him want to give him a chance?? Lmao how delusional. Not to say this is the only source of his past accomplishments but he doesn't have much anywhere else.

In it there is this telling analysis:

"Buss is introverted and avoids the spotlight, and has never joined any on-court public ceremony for the Lakers.[4] He rarely speaks in public, with Lakers general manager Mitch Kupchak usually handling the speaking responsibilities regarding player personnel.[35][36][37] Buss is sometimes portrayed in the Los Angeles media as a slacker with his father's tastes but without his business savvy. In 2013, Buss said the playboy image stemmed from his clubbing with his dad 30 years earlier, but stated that he became a "stay-at-home guy. That's where I like to work."

Since he gets no thrill out of the fun and spotlight of winning, I guess that means he is only in it for the money. His managerial style reflects that.

I'm more intrigued by this:

The offseason also included the NBA player lockout, during which the Lakers let go of nearly two dozen employees with a combined 100 years of experience from the basketball operations staff.[18] Assistant General Manager Ronnie Lester, whose contract was not renewed after 24 years with the team, said "great organizations don't treat their personnel like they've done."[19] CBSSports.com wrote that NBA executives are typically discreet, and Lester's public criticism "shows how strongly he feels the Lakers were in the wrong here".[17] Buss feared the season would be cancelled, and said that "we had to do what we had to do. It's not fun; there's no question about that."[15] The lockout ended in the winter of 2011.[20]

Point is this, if so many experienced staffers were let go, could this have been a contributing factor the the current malaise at the FO?

Jimbo didn't even speak at his Dad's Memorial. He got a friend who didn't even know his dad to speak for him. How asinine is that? This franchise is doomed! I would expect this from Donald Sterling, so Jimbo to me is Donald Sterling Jr and Donald Sterling is the new Jerry Buss minus 10 Bling-blings!

Jim Buss has bad Karma. I hope someone researches how much Jimbo gives to charity. I bet he is a greedy pig. (Kobe is a HUGE charity giver.) That is why I am out of here -- right after the Phil Jackson Press Conference. My life will be so much better without Jim Buss.

Don't quote me on this, but I remember hearing on 710 ESPN a long while back that Jimmy Buss disliked Phil jackson to such an extent that he fired anyone who had any close ties to him whatsoever. This may or may not explain the firings better.

Waiting for the Press Conference when it is OFFICIAL, get a load of this:

Carmelo Anthony willing to change game for Phil Jackson, 'I haven't won anything and he's won a lot'

Read more: http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/basketball/knicks/melo-open-changing -game-fit-phil-title-blueprint-article-1.1724298#ixzz2wKK9aXEO

Page One, post Phil....kiss Carmelo goodbye.

BTW...oft times the offspring of English Kings were idiots. One King, Henry II, recognized this and passed over the idiot son. Dr. Buss made one BIG mistake. He didn't see what an abject failure his son was.

Yes I was going to say the same thing, it's often not the case (except with actors coz, well, they're actors lol) that the apple does indeed fall far from the tree, in the case of highly intelligent and successful individuals offspring. I think the reason in this case is 2 fold. 1) the circumstances that existed in 1979 that allowed JB to acquire the Lakers and so on don't exist now. The stakes are much higher. 2) the intelligence gene is not necessarily passed on.

This is why I always think it is better for children to go their own way, and eschew the parents fantasy of the following in their footsteps for the sake of protecting the clan's fortunes. To solve this is simple, high % inheritance tax, over a certain amount of money. Say $100K or so, so the more common pple aren't killed by it. A rich pple's inheritance tax if you will. That way everyone has to thrive on their own and not just wait for a billion $ to fall into their lap. Big dollar inheritance is the scourge of societies. Of course in some cases it's a tremendous opportunity not wasted. But in most instances it is a bad idea. At least in the case of that kind of money. It's been shown over and over again (Kardashian, Hilton, Buss, Mellon, Kennedy, Bush et al. Just imagine what the Koch kids will be like...be very afraid).

Rich pple's kids are so often maladjusted, misbehaving sloths. And now one of them owns the Lakers through inheritance. A worse scenario cold not have befallen our team. But now it is a fait accompli. And all we can do is grin and bear it, or find a new team. All good things come to an end they say, usually under their own inertia.

I know failure is a prelude to success, but reading his wiki page tells me this chump is just a failure. Not by his efforts but by his propensity to inherit and quit. Nothing of his, if any has been built by his own hands, has been successful. This guys is a dumb kid with a screwdriver, taking apart all his toys, without a clue how to put them back together. Now we are inheriting a top draft pick and I'm not surprised if he effed that up as well.

How does a guy like that get to be a horse trainer? Don't you have to know how to train horses, at a very high level, to work with thoroughbreds like that? Dad just handed him the job and then, whaddya know, it went sour and they sold all the horses. Talk about dad going out of his way to give the kid a leg up. What a waste of dad's talent and business acumen.

Btw above I was going add, nepotism is also a rampant problem, in addition to massive wealth inheritance. Of course sometimes it works out well, but more often as not it doesn't. So along with an inheritance tax we need an end to overt nepotism. If a kid is really on top of things and earns his stripes and the opportunity, it's one thing, but again, more often than not they don't, and other good pple are displaced because of it. Of course the thing about nepotism is it's brilliant when it works in your favor, and really sucks when it doesn't. But the failures of it at the highest level have been monumental, ir: George Bush, the UK Royal Family, et al, to the point where it should be abolished. And again, it's one thing when it's your kids, but another when it's extended to cousins and nephews and the like, as it often is. But back to the point. Jim Bus is the idiot son of a great and clever man. Remember Jerry was self made. He was a bio chemist and therefore a really smart dude. Did his kid even finish school? If so he probably got a degree in Spring Break.

LOL @ Jim Buss going to jockey school. He probably thought he was going to train in running the underwear business. The bum. And I'm tired of him getting credit for the Pau, CP3, and Howard trade. Give me something he did post his father's death.

As this is my last day here as an ACTIVE member (I will still lurk around and see what the LTB members are up to!), the saddest thing is the fact that all Jim Buss had to do to keep everything humming along was NOTHING. Yes, NOTHING!

Not only was the world given to him on a silver platter, but the blueprint for continued success was also right in front of his nose. Just replace Mike Brown with PJax, keep D12 as a result, Kobe is uninjured and add some free agents like Meeks and Swaggy and you have a contending team.

Shepherd is right in that rich kids want to think they did it "on their own." Even if Jimbo made brilliant move after brilliant move, he still wouldn't have done it "on his own." This is the Nicholas Cage delusion -- like nobody knew he was a Coppola.

I will, as I said, still cheer on the two LOS ANGELES teams. But Mr. Bandwagonman here will be watching The Clippers for the foreseeable future.

At least until Magic buys the Lakers.

See you around Baad. Let's hope somehow there is a master plan we don't know about. And we can all be happy fans again, looking forward to the future.

Thanks Shep, Remember, sports is supposed to be fun. It is not religion or nationalism. When it ceases to become fun, then one must make changes.

The shame is we had it all. All Jimbo had to do was, as I said, NOTHING.

Too bad Dr. Buss was likely sexist (he is of that demographic) because if Jeannie were in charge, the Lakers would have a guy with THIRTEEN rings in their corner.

Ah, well...

I don't have an interest right now in reading about Jim but I'm watching ESPN and reading Jeanie's quotes where she says basically the Lakers are a family business and there just wasn't a role for Phil. That said it all for me. Guess Phil wasn't considered family after all.
