I don't understand why we are winning these meaningless/insignificant games. What is even harder to understand are those fans that think this is a great thing.

It definitely sucks to lose and it hurts big time, but it's better to lose it all this season than have another 4 or 5 years of mediocrity.

These last two games have been one of the worst moments of the season....lol. When we won early in the season, we at least had a chance to do something. Now its just making it more unlikely that we get a franchise player.

Lakers are currently looking at a potential #10 draft pick...not looking good. Roll tank roll.

We are 7.5 gamer down from Dallas and have no chance to get in playoff position with all our injuries. We need to trade Gasol now and I would trade Kaman as well. Start Kelly and sacre because they both will be in LA next year. Get them some experience. By doing that they will lose more games. We are close to getting the #3 spot for the draft order. There are 5 to7 top players in college that will have a big benefit to the lakers. Knowing our luck we will end up at 9 to 11 draft position that will do very little to bring in a franchise player. I don't want to intentionally tank, but management should do things that will provide the Lakers will as many draft picks for the future. By trading Gasol and Kaman we can get value for them in draft picks and improve our draft position in a big way. Nash needs to be shut down for the season and have a medical retirement. I would hold Kobe out until mid to late march when he is completely healthy and give him just enough time on the court to get ready for next year. Kobe should be on a 30 minute limit.

Best Offense VS Best Defense. today's game could decide the fate of the tank.

if the players start believing it could damage the tank.

Repped High Quality Post

As much as I would love for the Lakers to grab the #1 spot and draft Joel Embiid, I will not be joining team tank. I understand the logic behind your arguments and am not deluded enough to think we can make any serious runs at contention with our roster. I am not opposed to trading away current assets for future considerations to build the team. I draw the line at rooting for losses and accepting less than maximum effort from the players on the court or working on their rehab.

One thing I know for sure, once you allow yourself to lose it gets easier to quit when times are tough. Winning is a habit, born of a mentality which doesn't accept failure. Winning organizations can't allow failure to fester and become part of their culture. Losing organizations tend to stay that way for years regardless of how many times they pick high in the draft. Their is a difference between losing and being a loser. It's ok to lose to a better opponent as long as you go down fighting, scratching and clawing with everything you've got. If that's your mindset then you will improve and eventually become better than your opponent.

We are losing sight of the objective:

We may need Kobe to hurry and come back. That way Kendall can stop finding people for shots. He can instead just walk over and toss it to the hand and he can go spot up with that push shot somewhere.

That was so beautifully put. I'm giving you a golf clap. It almost a brought a tear to my eye. Please see 1997 NBA draft and see how that hurt the Spurs' winning culture.

Roman,

I'm in.

Here is quote from one of the greatest tank commanders who ever lived, Field Marshal Erwin Rommel. It was almost like he could see this Lakers season from way back then and knew the best path for us to take:

"Don't fight a battle if you don't gain anything by winning."

Gem,

I remember watching the Spurs in 96/97. After losing Robinson and Elliot to injuries their best player was an aging Dominique Wilkins(37 I believe). Even at 37 he led the team in minutes played, along with the rest of their best players. Even though they didn't have the horses to compete they came out every night trying. Even at that point the spurs were a model of winning and consistency and were rewarded with the top pick in a relatively weak draft even though they only had the third best odds. There is a difference between tanking and just not being very good.

The problem is that these guys aren't trying to tank. They are playing for a roster spot and/or a contract. If The Lakers FO is serious about tanking, they need to trade Pau Gasol for draft picks and/or assets. Then we all will know for sure that the tank is on!

I'm glad you brought up that. So do you see this laker squad not trying? They don't have the horses to compete and their main beat up thoroughbred is in the stable trying to heal. You remember the Spurs main thoroughbred? How he was sat out the whole season when he could have returned? Maybe they protected him from himself or maybe they said why bring back our main horse for a race that won't gain any sort of victory. It was a smart move, some people considered them tanking but the next season Robinson was healthy, they had a rookie in Duncan who was killer and the rest is history.

This team tries hard you can see it on the floor. They play harder than teams of yesteryear who had their personal agendas and just came out flat a lot of times because tHey acted like they could just show up and get a victory. This team is bad but the main horse will come back purely for his own reasons, oh that's right he says it's his job. He most likely will deal with nagging injuries the rest of his career since he will come back this season to make that deep playoff push.

Those of us who want a high draft pick actually want us to be able to stop losing in the next few years. That is why we want that pick this year. Kind of like getting a vaccine against future illness.

Aiming for a "vaccine" that may not even work by tanking is foolish. Keeping a losing mentality will not help for the future regardless of a good top pick. Losing is a bad habit, and the Cavaliers top picks don't seem to be saving them from their "illness". Just giving my side of the argument here.

Not being afraid to lose and rooting for it are two totally different things. To hear lakers fans upset over a win or wishing we would keep our better performers on the bench during close games is unacceptable. If the front office trades away all of the decent talent that isn't injured so be it. I will still root for the lakers that are on the floor to win.

I'm not saying you are wrong, but empirically this is not the way to build a winning culture.

I cannot understand fans who want us to win enough to barely get into the playoffs. And then lose.

This is an abberant year, with an abberant draft and an aberrant money cap. Normal rules to not apply. We cannot buy our way to the top anymore. And, after this year, we have no first round draft picks. And, with the Internet, the cache of a city is less important than the ability of the star to monetize his stardom.

The ONLY way to make this year worth anything is to lose, lose. lose. THAT IS THE WAY THE NBA IS SET UP. Thems the rules. Sorry if it does not coincide with your ideas of always playing to win.

In fact, if the Lakers do not "tank," there will be a lot of defectors to the Clippers -- whose whole revival came from THE DRAFT. (Blake Griffin.)

GO TEAM TANK!!!

You just generalized me SO SO WRONG. You label me as a fan that wants my team to go to the playoffs just to lose? I'm one who wants my team to perform the best they can perform. Wherever they may land, that is not the case, I wouldn't mind they get lottery bound or if they went deep in the playoffs... I do mind however that people are rooting for losses.

The clippers whole revival did not come from the draft lol. That's ridiculous, I think without Chris Paul; Kaman, Eric Gordon and Blake Griffin as the core would've been horrid. The clippers FO made very smart decisions to get back into contention but your judgment on all of their revival coming from Blake Griffin... You must be misinformed. They are a second-round exit at best WITH Chris Paul. With Half-court play slowing down in the playoffs, Chris Paul will be held down through the series and who will they rely on to handle the ball then? Chris Paul isn't their savior, and you think Blake Griffin is? Delusional, that's what you are. Go root for your pathetic Clippers. I will give credit where credit is due, the Clippers are definitely on the rise but for you to throw your Lakers blood away just because things don't go the way you want them to, that's garbage.

I understand Lakers should not stand for mediocrity, but I will not allow the Lakers to bring losing into their traditions ON PURPOSE just for a crack at a prospect that might not even pan through. Do things right, perform how they may and better. The future will be a lot more brighter than you may expect.

Birna, I understand what you are saying. But having a losing year does not suddenly inculcate a losing tradition on a team. What does that is the moves the FO does over years. They decisions they make. They players they get, or don't get. I am not asking Mitch or the FO to purposefully lose this year. I just hope we do, for obvious reasons. Your example of Cleveland is just one of many. I can give you some others. The Spurs took Tim Duncan and developed not only a culture of winning that lasts to this day, but a culture of winning titles. Closer to home, my Steelers had a great team, minus a QB. It relegated this great team to losing in the playoffs every year to teams with top QBs. Then one year, they underachieved for various reasons. They got the 11th pick in the draft. During that whole season there was a running debate on whether it was better if they won or lost. I wanted them to lose because there was certain QB I saw in college who I coveted, Ben Rothliesberger. Well, in the draft, because some other dumb teams passed on him, we did get him with the high pick (for us) at number 11. Three Superbowl appearances and two championships later, nobody is upset we lost that year and missed the playoffs. Sometimes, in certain situation, losing is winning. This team needs a new young star in the worst possible way for its future, like those Steelers desperately needed a top QB. I rooted for the Steelers to lose that year and don't regret it one bit. No Steeler fan does now, even those who had a million arguments why it was better if we won. Without that pick we would have had no super bowl appearances....
