Repped High Quality Post

All news is dismal for the Lakers: They sit at the bottom of the Pacific with a lowly 14-25 record, their losing skein has his six games and their record for the last ten games is an abysmal 1-9.

For this once proud franchise that only yesterday seemed on top of the world, winning two titles in three trips to finals this seems like a strange, inverted world; the Lakers as the Charlotte Hornets.

And with each loss, each failure, each mounting frustration, the clarion call grows louder: fire Coach D'Antoni. He is not the man for this team. Fire Coach D and hire someone better.

But for this fan, each successive regression, each exercise in futility makes me appreciate D'Antoni all the more. Fire him? No, at all costs, keep him right here where he is, because despite popular opinion he doing his best to help the Lakers be all they can be.

Am I talking about his coaching genius? His way of handling the team, his fixation on tough, pit bull defense which an understaffed team has to have to win as much as talent allows?

No, I don't see any of that happening under his aegis. So what is there to like, why do I want to keep his job on team going down faster than brick dropped softly in a deep lake?

My love for Coach D is predicated on the reality of this year's team and what is the best medicine for what ails it and what is needed for an eventual cure. Right now, what this team needs is a massive, quick infusion of young talent that can populate this team for years to come and the very best coach for us to achieve those ends is sitting right on the Lakers bench. Thank goodness for Coach D'Antoni.

The only object and sane goal left for this team is to get as high a pick in this years loaded draft as we possibly can. In this inverted year, every loss is a win, every win a loss that can take us a little further away from that great, young player this team, its organization and fans so desperately need.

So what would the firing of D'Antoni now achieve? Some burnt offering to frustration? A lashing out at season gone as wrong as it possibly could? The satisfaction of seeing a hated coach leave? A tacit admission by Jim Buss and Mitch Kupchak that they were wrong with the hire that was never popular with Lakers fans? And what gain could happen? If the Lakers fired Coach D now and actually hired a coach who could strain the very best out of it though the colander of his coaching genius, what would be the result? If say, we won five, or ten more games with this new coach, would it really make a difference with our enjoyment of this lost season? Would it give us any hope of winning a title, or even making the playoffs? Of course not. It would simply change a possible streak of 1-9 into a possible streak of 4-6. Something to really look forward to, right?

But what it would do is remove us, win by D'Antoniless win further down that draft board. It could mean the difference between a Embiid, a Parker, a Wiggins or any of these guys down to Joe Who. And right now, this team does not need a Joe Who, or even a Joe 13th position pick. It needs a star for the future to build around. It needs to be at or near the top of this lottery.

Because in this strange, inverted, lost season, the further the Laker brick sinks into the depths of that murky lakes waters, the better our chances are for eventual reprieve and attaining a star who can lead the Lakers to a revanchist future. And if this happens, our lost season may seem something very different in just a few years.

So while the cries to fire Coach D now reverberate around the internet with the force of thunder in an electronic echo chamber because he is the wrong coach for this team, I think, no, keep him, keep him right here, because at this moment, in this lost, crazy, inverted season, he is exactly the right coach to help this team get where it needs to go.

And after this year, after we get that high lottery pick and hopefully, that great player for the future, then and only then will I join that deafening chorus: Fire Coach D'Antoni. Because at that point, when we put this season behind us, when we get what we need out of this season, then it will be time to move on. Then it will be time to hire the right coach for our future and for winning.

Until that time, this is one fan who loves Coach D, because he is right where he can do us the most good: the exact man for the right team at the perfect time.

Do you have confidence that the Phony will select the best talent, or just bring in more offensive players who don't even know what the word defense means?

I think getting in a new coach with plan, and acquiring talent to fit that plan is a better way to take advantage of future opportunities as they arise. Even if that new coach is instricted to tank this season.

Steve,

No. I have no confidence we will hire a good coach next time around either. Probably will be three time loser Kurt Rambis. I have no confidence we will take the right guy in the draft. I have no confidence in this FO at all. The only thing they have shown me so far is the Jim and Mitch will make the wrong move and Jeanie will tweet something and talk about Phil. Confidence is something you earn by performance and correct action. So far, nothing doing with this bunch.

But I'm hoping, lol.

And right now, I am very happy Coach D is on our bench.

Roman, yes!

In a perverse sort of way, the Lakers hired the perfect coach for us at this time. Lets go Coach D!! Keep him here Mr. Buss. I believe in Coach D!!

You guys are sick puppies, but I understand - you think this is the best way for us to totally tank the rest of the season, thereby assuring us of the best draft selection. I hope you're right, because apparently we've got what we've got. But I think the Phony will only help us select crappy players that won't defend.

The style of the Phony's play is such that it won't fit another coach with any ability - like PJ's style. They would hire totally different players with totally different skill sets. So if the FO hires talent, to go along with the Phony's perspective, even the draft won't help us - because once we get a different and better coach, the drafted player won't fit that new coach's style and approach to the game. That's my only concern at this point.

Our future is written, as far as this season is concerned. This will be the year we will all remember as the lowpoint in Laker history, and we will all look back on this season, scratching out heads, and hoping that we never revisit anything this terrible again.

Oh sh*t,

Ooh ah ah ah ah,

Ooh ah ah ah ah,

Drowning deep in my sea of loathing.

Broken your servant I kneel.

Will you give it to me?

It seems what's left of my human side.

Is slowly changing in me.

Will you give it to me?

Looking at my own reflection.

When suddenly it changes.

Violently it changes.

Oh no, there is no turning back now.

You've woken up the demon in me.

Get up, come on get down with the sickness.

Get up, come on get down with the sickness.

Get up, come on get down with the sickness.

Open up your hate, and let it flow into me.

Get up, come on get down with the sickness.

You mother get up.

Come on get down with the sickness.

You f*cker get up.

Come on get down with the sickness.

Madness is the gift, that has been given to me.

I can see inside you, the sickness is rising.

Don't try to deny what you feel.

Will you give it to me?

It seems that all that was good has died.

And is decaying in me.

Will you give it to me?

It seems you're having some trouble.

In dealing with these changes.

Living with these changes.

Oh no, the world is a scary place.

Now that you've woken up the demon in me.

Get up, come on get down with the sickness.

Get up, come on get down with the sickness.

This is reverse engineered based on their current record and the upcoming 2014 Draft. Had the Lakers made a few decisions differently, the situation would be nowhere near as dismal.

Since it appears there are only three sure-fire, can't miss superstar prospects in this years draft -- Embiid, Parker and Wiggins -- we must get a top three pick or risk Jimbo drafting a guy who is a wife-beating, no-practise, drug addled loser.

TANK ON!!!

I must agree with the topic, even though it's tough watching the games.

Right now they must keep Kobe out. Because even a fragile Kobe is capable of beating some bad teams by himself.

SPQR,

The Lakers should be rebuilding, as they are doing right now, with the "builder" that will be responsible for the building in the future as well...

Shaq,

I understand your point. And that is usually my view too. But right now, the only thing I want to build to is as high a draft pick as possible and so far D'Antoni is doing a great job at it. So I want him here....till the year ends. Then I would like to see a real builder put in place. Unfortunately that might be a problem.

Roman,

If he starts to put together a winning streak they will need to fire him.

Baad, Wiggins needs a LOT of growth. He clearly has a ton of physical talent but the basketball experience (is it bb IQ?) seems to be far less than expected. He's still kind of finding himself and his game on the court. Don't expect a LeBron type of splash out of him unless it happens to be several years down the road.

If they want to take on a project with possible high reward long range, I'd rather see them go with Embiid if they have the opportunity. But don't expect him to be a savior either.

If they want an immediate impact, I think they'd actually be better off with a solid pg/scorer guy like Marcus Smart.

^^ I'm eyeing Embiid /Smart as well..followed closely by Parker. However like you correctly mentioned Embiid has the potential of being a high return investment project.

REALLY like Embiid, especially considering just how little basketball he's actually played. He's going to be a very aggressive, athletic big. I believe he'll be a great defender with some offensive ability too. Kinda weird to have both Embiid and Wiggins on the same college team. I think Kansas has another NBA player on their team too in Perry Ellis. Really solid player. I'm not sure what class he is though. Perry Ellis reminds me of Terry Cummings if anyone remembers him.

Randy:

Just loved your logic - if the Phony wins games, we will have to fire him! There's a ring to that sound. Clearly, you have a sick mind and belong on LTB. What would the rest of us do if you were sane? Normally, I would agree with you, but if I did, we'd both be wrong! And the tank keeps rolling along. I think the guys surprised the crap out of themselves by winning in Boston. Don't get carried away. It's not likely to happen again.

Randy,

If that happens, the Lakers Think "Tank" would be well advised to "Nip it in the bud" LOL

Steve,

If we keep losing at this rate, I would vote D'Antoni Coach Of The Year. What other coach would have helped his team and organization so much??

I'm afraid when we start getting Kobe, blake, nash (maybe) Henry, and Farmar back (whew, we have allot of injured guys) we will be back to a 500 team pretty quickly and ruin our chance at the lottery balls. Arggg... I say just keep everyone out... But to say Dantoni could do anything with this team is somehow involved is silly, with our full healthy team, Danatoni would be looked at as doing a great job.

I have a bad feeling (maybe good?) Kobe won't return soon or to acceptable form. Maybe this keeps the tank running.
