per Sheridanhoops:

It doesn't make sense to trade gasol for a scoring point guard when we could have gotten Nate Robinson or aaron Brooks for peanuts.

Yes it does if we want a young building block for the future. We could get austin rivers

We could get George hill or Derek Rose but that's highly unlikely too. I like rivers, I'm just thinking we could have gotten a young good point guard this summer and spent our trade for Pau on a legit center of PF.

Austin Rivers sucks and even though it isn't likely that the Lakers will win a championship this year, they're still "trying" to contend. If you trade Pau and have no center to work with then there's no chance they will make the playoffs, and Kobe will be furious and rushing back for no reason.

What they should do is trade Steve Blakes expiring contract as well as Jodie Meeks. An idea would be to the Utah Jazz (Who need a PG after Mo williams left) for Brandon Rush who is a solid defender and SF.

Wait when and how did this come up? Most importantly for whom?

This doesn't even make sense, its just another rumor made up by these so called "sources" ....if the lakers wanted to trade pau they would have done it in the summer, it doesn't make sense to trade him now with the season starting in less than a month.

You tripping austin rivers is going to be a beast. And learning from nash for a year would be beneficial to groom his pg skills.kobe is not going to be the same kobe as before. We should trade pau for rivers and some fillers or for eric gordon and turn him into a pg likema rose or westbrook

Or they want to trade him because they see they can use kaman for the year then go after a center in draft or try to get somebody like monroe from Detroit

Gasol's value even in his prime wouldn't get us Derrick Rose. Lol.

if we could get rivers/r. anderson somehow for Pau gasol/throw in, that'd be pretty dope. Pelicans have a lack of a good center and a deep with guards.

I wouldn't be surprised if he's traded before the season, but it's far more likely at the deadline. Plus if the rumor were accurate and the Lakers are indeed looking to trade Pau for a PG, then they would be short on big men.

Why would you trade a big for a guard when we have a grip of guards and no centers? That rumor makes no sense.

For now it's just a rumor, and I expect it to remain a rumor. Unless the Lakers find a deal that is just too good to turn down.

No. There are no guards out that a team will give up. I'm hoping its just a rumor.

I wasn't really saying Kobe has any control. I was just posting Kobe's thoughts.

I read the Amico article last night and that is not what he said. Sports Legion is putting words in his mouth.

Amico said Lakers are looking to make a deal for a PG. Then he stated Gasol is not untouchable. But he wasn't suggesting that Lakers are looking to trade Gasol for a PG.

From Sam Amico's Original Article:

Quote:

Many NBA talent-evaluators feel as if Steve Nash is no longer capable of playing at a high level for more than 15-20 minutes game. The Lakers, it is believed, are on the lookout for a younger point guard who's a more potent scorer. But as everyone who deals in the trade market will tell you, that won't be so easy to obtain.

Here is the original article. Amico Report: Sam Amico's NBA news & rumors for Oct. 13 SAM AMICO | Published: Monday, October 14, 2013, 2:19am | 0 Comments Remember the big fuss when Dwight Howard was traded to the Los Angeles Lakers a little more than a year ago? Remember how everyone had the Lakers pegged to reach the Finals? Remember how the other three teams in the deal -- the Philadelphia 76ers, Denver Nuggets and Orlando Magic -- were analyzed at the time? The 76ers landed Andrew Bynum. The Nuggets got Andrew Iguodala. The Magic got a bunch of spare parts and protected draft picks. At the time, there were thousands of theories. None turned out to be reality. Nothing really lived up to the hype. The Lakers disappointed all season, barely making the playoffs. Howard was a misfit in LA. Bynum missed the entire season in Philly. And while Iguodala was an important piece to a fantastic season in Denver, he never seemed as if he intended to stay. Now look at those situations today. Howard bolted LA for the Houston Rockets. Iguodala split for the Golden State Warriors. Bynum and Earl Clark (who went to the Lakers with Howard) made their way to the Cleveland Cavaliers. That leaves us with one clear winner in that trade. That would be none other than the Magic. And they win by a basketball landslide. Magic general manager Rob Hennigan was new to the job when the Howard sweepstakes was at its peak. A lot of folks seemed to think Hennigan was in way over his head. They seemed to think he was overselling the "assets" received in the deal. Well, those folks should think again. Hennigan and the Magic acquired center Nikola Vucevic and now second-year forward Maurice Harkless from the Sixers. They plucked veteran guard Arron Afflalo from the Nuggets. They secured....

The only guy that we had a shot that was young and can play and score was Jrue Holiday. Sixers got basically nothing for him

There's no harm in leaking out a sniffer just to see what might pop up. It keeps the Lakers in play as potential trade partners. Pau's expiring contract is highly valuable especially if a team just wants to clear space at the end of the year.

The only trade scenario I want to see involving Pau would be a trade for Rondo. It makes sense now:

Pau = Expiring contract & fills in need for front court player for C's ( I know they have Olynyk, but they should consider a more established player) + Celtics inch closer towards drafting Wiggins.

Rondo = Young, defensive-minded PG that's on the block that fills in void for Lakers

Other than that, I don't see a Pau trade anytime soon, just let him play out the rest of his contract. I think a Jordan Hill trade looks more plausible at the moment. Granted, I know he is still coming back from his hip injury, but he has made little progress in developing a stretch-four game. He'll have a better opportunity elsewhere in a role that suits his hustle style of play. I love the guy and how much heart he pours out on the floor, but he looks like a piece that's bound to be moved.

Trying to trade Pau for a player like Rondo will always mean the other team demanding that 2014 first in the trade. And Lakers most likely will have to send it to get the other team to budge.

although i love the rondo idea, i don't think, even with his expiring contract that the celts would want him. with a team rebuilding, they want young players + draft picks. in gasol they just get a 1 year rental and 1 draft pick. 3 team trade would be needed to swing Rondo

This doesn't make sense since like many of you have pointed out any deal the lakers make for a young pg would need to include our first rounder and that is big no-no. Weve already dealt enough picks.

If we need to trade anyone why not trade nash. Nash to toronto for kyle lowry. Toronto needs to sell tickets and the lakers take a flyer on a oft-injured borderline allstar pg when healthy.

no way this happens, we will get much more from Pau by keeping his expiring contract than by trading it.

Short-term, all you can get in the next months for Pau is players like Derrick Williams

Long-term, you can get players like Carmelo or Paul George or Kevin Love through the cap space created

Giving our last valuable asset for mediocrity is not the solution

For Rondo is a differant story.

Other than that the only way it happens is if Kobe retires and we go into full rebuild mode. Sorry guys but if you don't think we need Gasol now more than ever in order for Kobe to continue chaseing titles your on a bad batch of crack cocain. He is by far the best big man skill wise in the NBA right now period.

Won't happen. Teams are already getting set with their rosters, and few are looking for a blockbuster trade. I would be shocked if Pau got traded before season, however could see it happening before trade deadline.

For one I hate to break it to u kobe has no shot at another ring that ship has sailed. Two I can name 4 better Dwight howard, Demarcus Cousins, Roy Hibbert, and Marc Gasol. We need to trade him I would try and get Austin Rivers and Ryan Anderson or Eric Gordon and Ryan Anderson and turn Gordon into a Westbrook type Pg

I like the Gordon and Anderson combo. Problem is I can't remember the last time I saw Gordon play. Also IMO I don't think we have enough pieces to snag both of them.

Well if they do decide to do this then Kobe might as well take the season off and prepare for 2014-2015.
