First, I'm excited about Kevin Ding's new gig with b/r Bleacher Report as their lead NBA writer. Of course the Lakers are his specialty. He's an excellent, concise, creative writer and he will do a lot to enhance the reputation of the Bleacher Report all on his own. Ding's takes on the Lakers are always interesting. It'll be fun to see how accurate he is on this basic short list of 5 items. I'm not going to copy the entire article here, but here's the short list of bullet points. Follow the article link to read it all. Interesting stuff with....

Kevin is my favorite writer. Honest, creative and brave. He would get kicked off of LTB for his devilish ways.

Referring to his 5 comments...I find number 4 the most interesting. He's calling Wes Ultra Soft, Charmin' soft, perhaps even fluffy....

Kaman is an awkward fit anywhere, that's why he's effective!

And why Shawne and not LO? Smh....

Ha! So true. But...he has to be honest with some of the negatives too or he'd lose all credibility as a writer.

Interesting huh? I didn't realize Wesley had such a negative reputation for defense but I trust Ding knows what he's talking about even though no one is right all the time.

Skyeword, you may also be interested in the self-introduction article by Kevin Ding on b/r. If so, here's a link: http://bleacherreport.com/articles/1778904-introducing-nba-lead-writer s-lakers-columnist-kevin-ding

Well number 5 sounds promising, sounds like we need to start an LTB pool.

LaLayup wow, that wasn't the slightest bit disappointing! Thanks for the link. 90% of the sports writers I cannot stomach what they share given the dull, lifeless, psychologically bereft ramblings that always miss the point precisely for the absence of personal, source content. Stats never tell the....

I'm not sure that Ding was trying to say that Johnson is a poor defender. I think he was calling him weak mentally, because of his seeming lack of concern for the way his career has developed or his penchant for blaming the systems he has been in rather than taking responsibilty for his role in his development

Everyone familiar with Johnson's game recognizes his value both in potential and actual results as a defender. Physically, with his over 7' wingspan and decent bulk he has the tools necessary to defend the wing. Mentally, he has shown the willingness to focus on defense. This system is perfect for Johnson's offensive skill-set. Despite his less than stellar shooting percentages, his peers recognized him by voting him the 12th best pure shooter in the nba. He is a much better corner three shooter than Nick Young and should excel as the number four offensive weapon on the floor, rather than having to try and create or bail out an offense. My prediction is that he will show increased maturity and learn some mental toughness playing with Kobe and have a breakout year.

^ Thanks for that take McBill. Admittedly it was a little confusing to me about Johnson. I've heard a lot of comments about how he is our best hope for vast improvement in perimeter defense, along with Farmar to a lesser degree too. I'll just watch and take it all in. This is bound to be an extremely different team this year one way or the other. I'm just keeping in mind that Wesley Johnson was a highly valued high lottery pick not so long ago. Maybe he's just one of those guys who is slow to hit the NBA scene with his full potential. We can only hope that's the case and he arrives full force this season.

WOW! Interesting post. If he is a better shooter then Young, then the Lakers got a real good shooter. And that all falls under the D'Antoni system. In order for DA system to work, he has to have some good perimeter shooters like he had in Phoenix. Very interesting!

I have a feeling we will have a great year. Everyone is humble, less distractions, lower expectations, i feel the chem will be much better, and we just gonna play ball and have fun

I agree...I just hope the team comes to play this season..play hard...help on D, get back in transition...and play together.

Need Bryant healthy and playing sooner then later...But I am with you man. I think they will be much more fun to watch this season and it wouldn't shock me if the effort is way better and so is the overall record when its all said and done.

The Lakers have four or five keepers outside of Kobe, Gasol and Nash on this roster...it will be fun to watch some of these young guys grow here...

Just hope the team is able to keep them this time. Wish Earl Clark was still a Laker...he would be a great fit for this roster.
