O'Shea Jackson (born June 15, 1969), better known by his stage name Ice Cube, is an American hip hop artist, record producer, actor, screenwriter, film producer, and director. He began his career as a member of the hip-hop group C.I.A. and later joined N.W.A (***** With Attitudes). After leaving N.W.A in December 1989,[2] he built a successful solo career in music, and also as a writer, director, actor and producer in cinema. Additionally, he has served as one of the producers of the Showtime television series Barbershop and the TBS series Are We There Yet?, both of which are based upon films in which he portrayed the lead character.

Yes, he sang, or rapped, which ever term one prefers. He did get on stages, open his mouth and attempt to produce sounds from his mouth in a musical environment.

Now he writes, directs and stars in crappy movies.

Repped High Quality Post

At first I didn't want to chime in on this....but if Howard wanted to leave and he did just that, why are some crying and complaining. Dude is gone, with Houston. I wanted to keep him, but like I have stated once before "if he stays Let's Go Lakers, if he doesn't Let's Go Lakers." I want to say I understand Cube's and others frustration, but Howard made a decision for him and his family and that should be respected. LOL....I just don't want our fans coming off whiny like Clevelands fans when Lebron left. They had a reason he was there for several years and spurned them on TV; Dwight was here a year and everything went KABLOOEY and now he left and some fans are burning jerseys'?

My take is this, let's not be the spurned school girl that runs to her room and stalks, and constantly curses and talks about" he shouldn't have left us, how can he do this to us...we are the Lakers." We can easily be the spurned young man/girl who picks themselves up; works on themselves and then emerges as the one everyone wants to be with. The rest of this mess, should be beneath us as fans, but that's my opinion. GO LAKERS!!!!!!!!

Lakerdudeinindy,

I don't understand Cube or any like him. Well, I do to the extent he is raving hypocrite who needs to grow up. First off, its just sports for Cube. It has no impact on his life. Second it is Howards life. It has all the impact in the world on him. He should do with it as he pleases. Just like I said, if you or I approached Cube and told him what to do with his life, such as stop making crappy movies for profit, he would tell us to F*ck off. But he has the right to tell Howard what he should do with his life and limited years as an athlete?

Cube is a fan. And a moron. And a hypocrite.

Ice Cube a star? lol.

Imagine it. A washed up singer making crappy movies, a star!! I guess he is a star to some. I think when it comes to the Cube, the word clown that was used is more appropriate than star.

But then I guess Kim Kardashian says it all. Shes a "star" too. Hehe. The definition of star sure has changed in this time.

Give me a break. You know good and well that you have the "Are We There Yet" NWA edition DVD with never before seen footage with alternate ending. You strike me as the kind of guy who turns on the commentary while watching the DVD.

There's gonna be no rapper in Texas that's gonna respond, stand up for Dwight and have the balls to say "**** Ice Cube." Unless his name is Scarface.

SPQR, I beginning to think the this is going overboard with the commentary from current & ex-Lakers and Ice Cub. The organization is starting to lose the Class it has always had. Kareem has never said anything now he is also critiisizing Dwight.

Gem,

"Give me a break. You know good and well that you have the "Are We There Yet" NWA edition DVD with never before seen footage with alternate ending. You strike me as the kind of guy who turns on the commentary while watching the DVD."

FUNNY

I admit a am a fan of his shows and his movies.

I also heard about the song that is being played on the radio in LA dissing Dwight

I just think it is time to let it go. The organization and fans no matter who you are need to be classy.

Well, Gem, what can I say, you caught me out. I am listening to NWA here at work and will be watching Friday later tonight.

Toni,

I bet Kareem would put up a good defense when he forced Milwaukee to trade him to the Lakers! I bet he had a million reasons why he wanted to do that with HIS life at that time. In fact, in his book he said he wanted a better social scene, like clubs, restaurants, museums and stuff like that. He also didn't like the winters there. So um, gee, he put his life, his personal wants, over loyality to the Bucks. Gee....

All these guys are full of it and just looking to get some print time. Its a joke. Kareem should keep looking for that head coaching job rather than worry about Howard. He hasn't been too successful so far in getting that gig.

Ice Cube's career and accomplishments are somewhat beside the point. I'm sure he's doing okay. Truth is, he's been an outspoken Lakers fan for a very long time now, often getting called upon for sports media interviews regarding the Lakers. Like it or not, he represents a lot of Lakers fans and in the moment he kind of nailed down the general feeling of the fanbase. No big deal. Eventually it will all be forgotten.

They are being left behind by other organizations The old way with the current CBA and the fact that players are looking at championship caliber rosters when choosing their destination will not work anymore Will we begin to build a new team with a good mixture of young and veterans??????? What decision will be made concerning Kobe Bryant???? Will he choose a....

^^^^Exactly. I know ALOT of fans are frustrated, but if Cube is gonna do a dis rap, dis the FO and the coach. They are as to much to blame for acquiring a guy that did not want to be here and when he did get here, he did not feel wanted. Dis the coach who still does not have assistants, or a clue. How about a verse or two about Jim "short" Buss?

The thing is; Howard is gone. It may work out fine if the FO stops being foolish and understand what needs to be done and the Lakers can have Cube rap about championships, not this trivial mess!!!!!

Dwight deserves all of this, of course he is entitled to make his own life decisions but that does not mean he is immune to criticism. Dwight came to LA and bitched, moaned, made excuses, was a cancer, and quit on his team and then he turns around and signs with Houston, and then some have the nerve to claim the Lakers FO was the problem. I am glad Dwight is gone and the Lakers organization and fans should take offense for Dwights' performance with the Lakers and spurning them to take less money in Houston.

Ice Cube did make his own life decisions, he left NWA to pursue a solo career and he did take criticism and heat for leaving the hottest and most dangerous group in the world. The difference between Dwight and Cube was that Cube was the heart soul and talent of NWA, he wrote most the lyrics and he was getting ripped off money wise so he left. Cube went off to become the most successful member of NWA, coming out with classic albums which he continues to do today while staying true to his LA roots, he became a very successful movie career starring, directing and producing mulitple classics, and when he got that heat from his life decision to leave NWA he did not run and cower, he put out "no vasoline" the best rap diss ever.

Anyone in LA that goes out of their way to diss Ice Cube in order to defend Dwight should immediately have their LA pass revoked and sent to Houston where they can continue to Kiss Dwight behind and sniff his jock.

From reading some of these threads, sounds like this is becoming an Ice Cube vs Dwight thread which is laughable. All the guy did was say "F" D12. That's his way of letting go. Simple and plain. I'm reading stuff referring to Ice Cube's career and blah blah blah and it's not even about that. The guy vented. That's all. I'm quite sure he's done with dissing D12. We all have our way of venting...GEEZ.

Exactly. Repped. (if I still could)

The thing I never understood about the whole "loyalty" thing is this: Why would you want to be loyal to a place and stay there if it meant giving up your happiness? At that point, I would retire right then and there, grab my millions and leave.

That's why I don't mind that LeBron, Melo, Kareem, Dwight, Bosh, Chris Paul, Garnett, Ray Allen, Wilt, and so many other great NBA players fled the teams they were on before to pursue a team that can make them happier. Wouldn't you leave your school/job/neighborhood for a better one in a split second if the school/job/neighborhood you went to/had/lived in, made you unhappy?

I do not think anyone is disputing that Dwight has a right to make his own decision, but being a public figure, and having a career making money off the media and public, criticism from the public comes with the territory. Ice Cube as a Laker fan and a public figure who has faced criticism himself, has every right to be critical of Dwight Howard, everybody is entitled to their opinion whether you agree with it or not and every choice has a consequence.

I hope that Dwight was expecting to be criticized no matter what decision he made, because that's just what happens when you're as famous and as big of a star as Dwight is. I just do not understand, in general, the whole "loyalty" thing is all. I was just saying that because I know some NBA analysts were saying that his legacy would look better if he stayed, and that may be true, but it shouldn't be. He should be able to play for whatever team that makes him happy, it's just too bad some people don't realize that.

Personally, for me, I don't like Dwight as a player or person, I think his fun personality is fine, but I don't agree with his whining. He has been babied his whole career and I believe that is why he is so sensitive to criticism, and I can understand that. His whining is probably due to the media, the fans, and the Magic babying Dwight, same with LeBron and probably a lot of other sports stars, but probably mostly NBA stars. I love basketball, but honestly, the NBA is full of whiners.

Ice cube comes out after Dwight leaves. Where were the Hollywood connection the lakers supposedly had while dwight was still a laker? Why didn't I see him tweeting to dwight about the best strip clubs in LA?

Love Ice Cube. Not on topic but I swear I wish "rappers" today were half as good as Ice Cube was.

Anyway, let the man say whatever he wants. He's a Lakers fan, just like us. Him talking smack about Dwight Howard doesn't equate to anymore than what we have to say on message boards other than that it is ICE CUBE saying it. And hell, lot's of fans agree with him too. Who cares?

Obviously, no matter where D6 (he's demoted) goes, he will bhe wealthy. (Unless a couple of dozen kids take it all)....but, after this move, Dwight had better hope:

  1. He doesn;t have a career-ending injury and loses that extra 30 million

  2. He never wins a title

3, Worse still, the Rockets get WORSE with him around (like the Lakers)

  1. His free throws cost Houston first round exits every year. Hack-A-Howard becomes the universal butt of all jokes. And the standard way to play the Rockets.

  2. DeAndre Jordan has a better free throw percentage than Dwight!

Props to Ice Cube!!!!!!!!!!!

Why wasn't Kobe given that same lecture when a couple years after threepeat, when he already HAD three rings, he totally blasted Mitch, Dr. Buss and the Lakers organzation and demanded to be traded because the team at that time was not a contender? ...

There is a simple answer to that, Mr. Kobe Hater #1.

Different time and place. The Kobe thing was pre-Twitter,; now everything is under the social media microscope. Same thing when Magic got rid of a coach. He wasn't even slightly castigated.

Back in the day, President John Kennedy could screw women in the White House and not a peep out of the media; many years later Bill Clinton gets media-massacred for a BJ.

You gotta watch your brand more carefully now.

Dwight deserves to be the also-ran that he will be.

Anyone want to bet he never gets five rings? One ring? None? I bet none.

The media skewering of Dwight hasn't even started.

Another rant: You know, I was pondering... LTBers Dwight Howard wants to win now and Houston suits him. They have a young nucleus. They are ready to win with Howard on the roster but yet to be seen and that's what I'm afraid of for him. But you know? He made his choice. Come to think about it. They have a solid team not bad. Besides Jeremy Lin plays well with Bigs. I think those two will play well together.

Houston starting five:

Jeremy Lin

James Harden

Chandler Parsons

(Maybe Omer Asik)

Dwight Howard

But dang, I wish he would have stay. In my alternate universe. He stays and the Lakers traded Pau Gasol to Houston for Jeremy Lin plus one.

Alternate Universe Lakers lineup:

Jeremy Lin

Kobe Bryant

Earl Clark (didn't leave to the Cavs)

Jordan Hill

Dwight Howard

Kobe eventually stayed a Laker but he was booed the first game of the year against Houston.
