By Mike Bresnahan Pau Gasol and Mike D'Antoni met Wednesday night to hammer out some obvious differences since D'Antoni took over as the Lakers' coach, The Times has learned. Gasol said he wanted the ball in the post instead of on the perimeter and also asked to play in crunch time, among the topics discussed with D'Antoni at a Manhattan Beach restaurant. "It was to make sure we're in....

It was a very contentious decision to leave out Pau during crunch time against the bobcats. We ended up playing small and missed a critical rebound on the final play which fortunately, resulted in a blown layup...following multiple chances the bobcats had to put the game away on the last play. I think the best five should always be on the floor especially towards the end. If you recall even though LO came off the bench, he was usually there to finish the games. Even if they decide to assign Pau to the bench, it is essential that he stays during critical phases of the game.

Glad to see Pau has some limits. It's incredible how much disrespect comes his way. He doesn't need to get it from the coach too!

Maybe there is some hope for Antoni. He is totally out of touch with some of the major players on his squad. Glad to see he's making an effort to find out what the players have to say. Now, was it a BS meeting, or will there be some tangible changes in the way he plays Pau. Antoni has shown in the past that he doesn't change anything ever. Players must adapt, not the coach. So even though Antoni made the effort, and he left Pau with a warm and fuzzy feeling, let's see how he uses Pau after the meeting.

it was also very risky of D'Antoni to leave Howard inside at the last 2 possesions of ours! If Bobcats were more unethical, they could have fouled Dwight and the 97-97 probably would have not become 97-101

Using your reason though, Dwight would have had to have the ball for the Bobcats to foul him and put him on the line.

not necessarily, hack-a-Dwight can take place even when Dwight does not have the ball (e.g. during screening or during taking position at the post)
