Just heard on ESPN that most of Boston including KG will be free agents this summer.

Now assuming Gasol is traded, hopefully for a top notch PG. What are your thoughts on bringing KG in to replace him?

Now I know to some that may be blasphemy, but considering he's still and elite defender that likes to roam on the perimeter. Why not give him a shot?

A front line of KG and Bynum could be vicious. And he'd definitely get Drew to step his game up defensively.

What are your thoughts?

I like it. Trade Gasol for an elite pg and replace him with KG for cheap. Then Trade Bynum for Howard and then we would be set. KG and Dwight in the front court on the Lakers would be crazy, BUT it seems kinda crazy to think of KG being in an LA jersey right now.

I have a feeling he will retire after the Celtics' season is over. Just a hunch.

I would love to see KG in purple and gold next year, but he would have to take such a substantial paycut that I think if he was willing to do that he would do so and stay in Boston.

Assuming Gasol gets traded, I'd welcome KG on this team for sure. He and Bynum would be the meanest, nastiest front-court out there!

We almost had him in 2007 and I've never stopped wondering what our team would've been like with KG and Kobe playing side by side. I had KG on all of my teams from NBA2K6 to 2K8.

Hell freakin yes if we can get him. Kobe's window is small and we want to win now. Young talent would be nice if we were in full rebuilding mode, but we still have a couple years in which the Lakers org is invested in the Kobe Bryant era, so we need proven, battle tested veterans. Especially if they're a defensive beast like KG who would play great next to Bynum. He'll take those jumpers that Pau was afraid to shoot all season, he'll anchor up our defense, and he's a team first type of player that Kobe actually respects and gets along with.

Do it Mitch!

Well said. He would be much more effective on o and d for our team. his jumper is better than Pau's and his defense is better. I hate his trash talking. Let your game speak for itself. That said, he would make Bynum nastier which we need. It's almost as if Kobe can't do it because he's a guard. But Bynum would have both KG and Kobe igniting him.

I actually think Artest and KG would make the best defensive combo. I'd pay KG the MLE for three years. I'd also trade Pau and Blake for a top tier point guard and somebody we can amnesty when he gets here.

As a free agent there is virtually zero chance the Lakers could sign him. He may be getting older, but he won't go for as cheap as the Lakers would need for him to go.

The Lakers can do a sign and trade using their TPE. But would Boston go for it?

If the Celtics were to win in the Finals(which i hope not.. on 2nd tought i wud rather them win it over the Heat), why wud he want to go to another team? The Celtics made it farther than us, why wud he settle for a lesser team? I wud love it for him to be here, only if Pau is gone. Signin a Vet forward like him wud be awesome

Whatever meager offer the Lakers are allowed to offer KG, the Celtics will easily beat it out of spite.

Nope we need to get younger and knowing kg his pride would get in he way and won't take a bench role. We need to get younger plain and simple.

^^If he wants to start for a contender, it's the Lakers and all we have is the vet min... I would not waste the mini mle on him.

If he decides he is gonna play for money, then he goes elsewhere. But I think that if Boston does not re-sign him, he will want to go to a place where he can start and win a ring. Lakers is the only place where I can see that happening.

Plus at this point...KG is probably more about winning another ring before he retires and not money.

He was responsible for the Lakers "not winning" what in "07"???

We lost 4-1 to the Phoenix Suns in the opening round in 07. KG's Timberwolves didn't reach the playoffs.

I would tend to think that guys like Smush Parker, Brian Cook, VladRad, Luke Walton, and maybe a guy named Steve Nash had more to do with the Lakers losing in 07. JMHO.

As for the possible signing of KG, I would tend to agree with what Daniel said. He probably won't sign on the cheap, but you never know. As much as a couldn't stand both of these guys, who would have though we'd get Gary Payton and Karl Malone for a combined 6 million ( if memory serves)??????

What I will say about KG the player, is that he has looked damn good in the last couple of months. Just like with our St Andrew, patience must be exercised when dealing with knee issues. A player is almost always playing before the knee is 100% healed. Perhaps KG's knee is finally up to par, who knows....

All of that being said, I would love to see this guy on our team. If it's via the vet-min or the mini MLE. If we don't have to give anybody up for him, why not, if at that price.

He'd make a great replacement for Buttercup, whose days in LA are numbered IMO.

I'll take him for 2 yrs over PAU anyday

KG is one of those players you hate but love him if he's on your team... Ala Rodman

Has some good years left in him... Always healthy, play hard , and a competitor

I know he has a house in malibu ... If he wants to take a pay cut , I would take him in a heartbeat

Do not want any old players on this team. We need to prepare for the future. You would only be renting a player that after one or two years would leave us with no value probably at the same time that Kobe leaves us with no value. We need players that will be here for several years. We can not keep putting bandaids on a broken leg.

Funny, I thought the same thing. KG would hold drew accountable for his defensive lapses, THATS FOR SURE. That is the only way I would support Bynum in L.A. anymore. KG brings it almost every game unlike our current bigs who do it sometimes. KG and Gasol almost have the same game except KG is more physical. We evened the score with this guy in 2010 so I say bring him to L.A.

I don't understand some people. They hate a player so much that they wouldn't want him on their team even if it would make the team better, smh.. KG has much more heart and toughness than Pau ever did. I hate KG and think he's a tool but man would I love to have him playing down low with Bynum. Two 7 footers who play defense! KG isn't that bad of a passer either so there wouldn't be much of a drop off from Pau in that category. A lineup that included Kobe, Artest, Garnett, and Bynum would be amazing defensively. Now if the Lakers could get some defense at the point guard position..

You make it sound like it's Boston's choice whether or not he leaves there. It's all on KG. If we wants to go to another team and take a pay-cut, he is free to do so.

If the Lakers are going to use the majority of that TPE, I'd rather wait for a younger player with more upside for the future.

The lakers need to be in retool mode, not rebuild mode. KG for the vet minimum is a slap in the face to a HOF vet. I would love KG in a Laker uni. Gasol and Drew both had mental lapses and it showed but people always singled out Drew. KG communicates on defense and without a doubt would hold Drew accountable, KG also would be the personality needed to hold Kobe accountable for his hero ball antics, especially coming from Boston where hero ball was not looked upon highly. KG would be needed for Drew and Kobe, we wouldn't have to worry about KG passing up an open jumpshot and passing to Durant instead. KG is better than a lot of younger guys that people are looking for, KG will actually set a decent screen even though it's illegal. I don't think people realize how much this guy would bring to LA.

KG ,Steve Nash, and ray for outside shooting ,one thing about experiences that thees guy have all the little ticks they use to win game , if we want to win now we got to go with guys that know how to win , and yes we will get some young studs by trading pau,

Did anyone watch espn today and see the shows makin fun of KG for not being able to dunk anymore!he got hung on the fron of the rim on a wide open dunk against philly and he didn't even **** it back at all,go look it up if u missed it,cmon, you'll see it,and see the truth about his game when its late in the season/post season.even tho he's been scoring,if u saw that missed dunk ud think he should retire..

^^^ a missed dunk means what? If he is used correctly then you don't have to worry about a guy's legs getting tired, for example Duncan looks like he's 29 again, almost.

A missed dunk means he can't finish at the rim man, just like duncan, missed layups in the first half of game one, then got lucky he got his board and got goaltended, duncan can look about 2 years younger after a lot of rest, but in the playoffs you play every other night, and TD is back to lookin 35 to an objective eye.just look the damn play up to see just how bad it is before u speak on it.its not a rim out almost excusable miss, its a bottom of the rim highschooler attempt miss

TheSHOEMAKER

So by your logic if a player can't dunk he should retire? KG is still a good defender and would be worth the money if the Lakers got him. You can't base all of your info on a missed dunk. Also, it doesn't hurt if you put a space after commas or periods..

gemfow

^^^. I don't have to look the play up. KG has played great in these playoffs so me judging KG by a missed dunk attempt and not looking at his total body of work would be foolish of me. So these playoffs that he has played a game every other night doesn't really strengthen your argument because he has played well in these playoffs.

TD may look 35 at times but that's because he is, however he still sets great screens, moves the ball and is a key cog on the Spurs. So who is being objective here! You or me?
