Big names on the block as the trade deadline approaches Sam Smith With the NBA All-Star game concluded, it usually means the unofficial opening of the trading season. That’s because the trade deadline usually is the Thursday after the All-Star game. But because of the 66-game compressed season, the trading deadline has been extended to March 15. Additionally, the final day for playoff eligibility is the following week, which is when teams generally will do buyouts. The general sense around the NBA, according to several team executives, is it’s slow on the trade front thus far. One major reason is teams are trying....

Hopefully Gasol stays. I like what he is doing alongside Bynum.

I feel FO will try to stick with the core of Bryant, Pau and AB this season....They will just look for a small trades that will bring a decent PG/players that will help the lakers...

Howard IMO will play-out this season....and the Laker will amnesty someone next season to have a play for Howard....

Lakers can still compete with minor fix this season....not a smart move to make a big move especially in a compress season....cannot sacrifice to lose some games as players adjust to one another....

The Lakers will amnesty someone next season so have a play for Howard? Do you care to elaborate?

But allow me to explain something to you:

Next season, if Fisher exercises his player option, the Lakers pick up Bynum's $16,100,000 contract, and the Lakers exercise Goudelock's team option they(the Lakers) will pay out a little over $87,000,000 in contracts.

Now let's say Fisher retires and leaves behind $3.4 million and the Lakers don't pick up Bynum's $16.1 million team option. That'll put the Lakers at ~$68 million in contracts. They'd still be over the salary cap by around $10 million!!! Using the amnesty provision on Pau wouldn't even free up enough salary cap to sign Howard via free agency. The Lakers would have to amnesty Kobe in order to sign Howard right out. And if that were to happen why would Dwight want to be on the Lakers then.....

Gasol is as skilled a big man as it is in the game and would be even more dangerous with a star point guard, better than Bosh. My point being Miami does not have a true center just one who plays defense and rebound,so we could do the same with a Deron Williams and Lopez for Bynum and pieces. In addition Williams would be more attractive in bringing in other players more so than Rondo or any other PG available. Playing in LA in front of celebs with 3 all-stars who wouldn't want to come here
