As a Laker, Sasha Vujacic(notes) inspired hatred usually reserved for the best players on archrivals. But Sasha held his own special genius -- with his perpetual air of confidence and long hair, he was like a European version of a villain in an '80s skiing movie. However, if you listen to Sasha (now a member of the New Jersey Nets), we've had him all wrong. The man just wants to win, and a revelation of his true talents would actually place him among the best players in the league. From Colin Stephenson in The Newark Star-Ledger: "I know I can score 20....

If that were the case then we would've already have our future all-star player after kobe. . .

Did you know that he once scored 71 points in a game in Europe (before he was drafted by the Lakers)?

Didn't know about that, thanks for the trivia. But European basketball is vastly different from the NBA. Very Happy

If he were a starting, focused piece of the Nets' line-up, I could definitely see him having 20 and 30 point games here and there with an average of around 15-16 points. You guys have to realize that coming off of the bench as the 3rd-5th scoring option on the floor, it is hard to prove that you can score. But Sasha is a shooter, and if he were able to get 15-20 shots a game and 30+ MPG, I don't see how it is unthinkable.

Also, when he says "anytime I want," it doesn't necessarily mean he's implying he can be Kobe and just start torching up a team. Just that given the right amount of playing time and shots, he could score that much.

...and I suppose we should view these totally unfounded declarations as being true? Well, in that case, we all owe him a huge vote of thanks for being so selflessly abnegatory in his respect for our team! He sacrificed his obvious all-star abilities, for us. Little did we know that the only reason that he sucked dog doo for so many years with us, when we needed him, is out of his profound sense of respect for the Laker team. Thanks a bunch!

For me, the discourse is another. I can think of any number of analogies, e.g., if you have a pack of dogs, the one with less fleas is the King. You put a mentally weak player like Bricklayer on a crappy team, with no pressure to win, and he plays well. You put him on a team with pressure, a contender, and he melts like butter in the Sahara sun. This is Vujacic in a nutshell. He is now, with the horrible Nets, just one of the dogs with fewer fleas.

The only positive Legacy that Sasha will ever leave here, is that he made Kobe laugh. Other than that -- IMO, he's the Starting Two-Guard on the All-Time "Most-Disliked" (Most-Hated???) Lakers' team.

And, as always remember the old Stand-By...

Translated from Slovenian to English, as follows:

Sasha = "Plays Like"

Vujacic = "Absolute Garbage"

The most shots he's ever taken in one game was 17. He hit that plateau only once. It's tough to score 30 any time he wants when 12 shots is considered more than a days work.

If he ever took 20-22 shots, he could score 30 points, which is not a bad shot/point ratio at all. I just don't see any reason why he of all players on the floor should take 20 shots. That is where his dilemma lies.

Sasha was a pure shooter when the Lakers drafted him. But when you have a super star like Kobe it left Sasha in the shadows to where he was limited as to how many shots he would be allowed to take in a Laker team as talented as it is. The Alpha dog is the one that will take most of the shots.

I still believe that any talented player IF given a chance can be real good at shooting. BUT, when you have a coach like Phil Jackson most don't get a chance to prove themselves. Right now we have Ebanks just wasting away seating in the far end of the bench. He is not going to get any better just sitting on the bench when we all know this kid has great potential.

I really believe Sasha IF given minutes would have made a good quick release perimeter shooter for the Lakers, and if we wouldn't have had a Kobe, and lets say Sasha was the Alpha dog, he probably could score thirty. The thing is though, he is just a role player and is only going to contribute enough to win. Nothing spectacular, just one of the guys.

If a player does not get the minutes, he will not be a sharp shooting player. His timing will be off and will look lost most of the time because he does not get the playing time. And that goes for any player.

Great perspective, Axle. What you say makes absolute, complete sense.

Especially since Ebanks P/36min. Scoring places him 4th on the team at roughly 17ppg and -- as does his eff. put him in 4th position, as well.

Stats often tella story -- and this story's a Good One.

Sometimes I think Phil Wins despite himself.

Just thinking of the all-time LA Lakers cast-off team. And it went something like this:

Kwame Brown - Center (Chris Mihm back up)

Slava Medvedenko - PF (John Salley back up)

Radmanović - SF (Back up Brian Cook)

Sasha - 2 guard (Devean George back up)

Smush Parker - PG (Back up Jordan Farmar)

Honorable mention - Adam Morrison, Travis Knight, Samaki Walker, Mark Madsen, Isaiah Rider.

Did I miss anyone? lol

I think Sasha is getting the last laugh because now he is appreciated where he is playing. Laker assistant coach never could get along with Sasha or maybe he does not like white players. But Sasha was getting his money anyways sitting on the bench. He is playing now and the last three games he scored 25-points, then 10 and last game he scored 15 points. Sasha was not a bad player if they would let him play, but some screwed up asst coach just couldn't get along with him. That was a loss for the Lakers because Smith is not the shooter Sasha is. And the five mil the Lakers got, they never got another player.

By the time John Sally come to the Lakers, he was already an old player and yes he was not very good with the Lakers. But John when he was young and playing with the Pistons, he was a very good player.

I think if we had Sasha on the team he would have been our best player tonight against the Bobcats. Now that is saying something very sad...but true...
