BTW I want to clarify something- it's 3 positive NET votes total. So if you have 5 positives and 4 negatives against you, than you would only have 1 positive.

I have great admiration for my favorite player Kobe, please be nice to him, he is under a lot of fatigue leading the team during all of his 11 years, he is such a complete and special leader. I wish there was a NBA award for leader of the year, Kobe would win it every year.

In a couple of short years this has become one of the busiest Laker Fan sites in the world. Having to manage the overwhelming support of Laker fans on this site is a good problem to have instead of the problem that a lot of other sites have, and that is a total lack of support. Keep up the good work everone. Post on!

Hi guys- I've made modifications to the maximum number of posts rule. Now to be able to post as many as you want you would need 5 net positive votes. Otherwise there is a limit of 35 posts a day. Thanks everyone!

depends some days there is a lot to talk about and others its boring, if someone is not contributing with quality posts then all a moderator has to do is send a pm and let them know they need to write something more than, yeah me to.

Yeap. Them posts that consist of basically "Yeap". Them ones.

And also, we should consider too the value of giving someone a positive vote; don't just give them out to anyone, just because they ask for it. Chances are, those types of people will end up hurting this forum and its integrity (allowing them to post 100 times a day by letting them get to 5+ votes? o.O). Give them out to people who make good points, bring up good discussions, contribute quality posts, etc, not just to a bunch of 'yes' men (brown nosers).

People shoudln't even be asking for positive votes, lol. lol

Good rule Dave, this will let all the new comers know that they have to contribute quality posts on this site if they want to become more active.

lol, i do agree though. I See a couple of votes given, and i think Why?

Also i agree with VS. There should be a limit to posts.

At least there is some regulation though, thanx Dave

Another thing that needs to be discussed is the chatroom. It was created for the games! I mean, why are people so against it? I like it, but I never go in there because nobody else goes in there....

I mean, is it really necessary to create threads and post replies in those threads just to say "AB!!!!!"....that's what a chat room is for.

If everyone was subjected to the chatrooms and nobody and gameday threads weren't created, we wouldn't have absurd post count numbers like:

Quote:
Top Posters

The top 10 posters over the last 5 days:

1.) JonathanDavid_24 570

2.) ReliveThe3PEAT 504

3.) flambergex69 219

4.) optimistic7292 203

5.) VujacicSlovenia 132

That's insane! We'd really be able to tell if a post limit rule needed to be invoked....

And like Mamba said, it is pretty easy to get like 5 votes around here. People can get votes simply for saying something like: "no trade Odom, he good. if you not like laker player while they still laker, u not real fan". I mean, c'mon....

So, personally, I think the posting rule should work like this:

0-5 net votes - 25 per day limit

5-15 - 35 per day

15+ - 50 per day

Moderators/Admin - unlimited. They need unlimited because they may need to: intervene in an altercation, explain why they're moving/merging threads, help out new members, etc....

I also think this will be good for the chat room too. It'll basically force everyone to go they so they don't run the risk of exceeding their daily limit....

Just the preverbial two cents....

Well, as far as forgiving them, you must've given them the negative vote for a reason. Still, I've seen some pretty absurd reasons for giving people negative votes.

I think you shouldn't mind negative votes. I got my one negative vote from a banned member for trying to mediate in a heated discussion. At first I was offended and briefly considered retaliating but after a moments thought, what the heck. What matters is the positive votes we get because it basically says that we either made an excellent post or the people that gave it regard you in a favorable way. Either way, we're here to exchange thoughts and ideas about our chosen team. Not to run for President or something. Yellow_Flash_Colorz_PDT_19

thanks for bringing this back dave. even tho i dont post anywhere as much as i used to, i still try and come on every day to to read posts and merge an or delete duplicate threads if needed. this is a good rule that we used to enforce early on and it worked.

now im not too big on the voting system because i think its a popularity contest rather than voting because a poster made a great point but since its still in place the +5 rule is a good one. but i also think that anyone with a +5 should also be limited to about 60 posts a day. that way they can make their posts count instead of making a hundred or so posts a day with half of them basically being useless posts that we have to scroll through that didnt need to be made like a couple of posters on here are doing. lets go back to quality over quantity on ltb. we seem to have gone away from that and need to get back to it.

dave, i have been thinking about these game day threads where most of these posts are being made in. why dont we nix the rule of having a +2 in votes required to use the chat room. that way most of the posts like "go lakers!" or "come on, lets play d!", or my favorite "kobe!" after a dunk are being put on the chat room and not counting toward the maximum # of posts a day. i have tried posting in the game threads during a game asking a question or trying to make a point and by the time i hit the submit button, there are about 20 other posts posted like the ones i mentioned above. no one hardly ever reads these posts but they will be more visible in the chat room. lets keep the game threads for the time leading up to the game, during halftime so we can talk about something important that happened, and after the game so we can give our analysis. during the game we should all use the chatroom though.

just my 2 cents dave, thanks.

Well, while we're all in site-improving mode, I may as well give my opinion on the reputation system. I think it works. I think it's good.

The only thing I would do to change it is: Eliminate negative votes. Just get rid of 'em. Whenever I've given out a negative, it was A.) I was acting like a stupid newb, B.) I thought the person violated forum rules or C.) I let my short temper get the best of me.

But, seriously, what's the point of negatives at all? I mean, one time a guy gave me a negative for saying that Odom wouldn't be able to defend other small forward. Which, hello!, he obviously can't, and BOOM. Negative vote. For what? I got another one because some guy thought I was trying to "rile up" the site, when all I was doing was criticizing the Lakers...I got my three others as direct revenge votes from LTB'ers I'd given negatives to earlier....

If a person truly deserves a negative, don't they A.) Deserve to be reprimanded by a moderator or admin? or B.) Deserve to be banned?

Forum Rule #5: Actions that WILL get a user banned.

5) Attempting to circumvent quality control systems such as the Reputation System. For instance creating another username and voting for yourself is strictly prohibited. Also giving negative votes to other members for no reason is prohibited.

I mean, damn. If that rule was actually enforced, there'd be like 10 LTB'ers still in existence.

So, yeah, I think the negative option should be removed altogether.

Yeah the chatroom should definitely be used. I've gone in there like 1 time, and it's always a total ghost town.

EDIT: I've gone there to post 1 time. But I've watched and no ones ever in there.

Well, besides the whole voting situation, here are a few suggestions that I've had in my mind for some time now and could help the site:

#1: Add a Staff Forum. Now, this forum will be invisible to all members, except the mods/admin. Here, we can discuss issues concerning LTB. It'd help the staff's unity.

#2: Create a forum where all locked threads are moved to. Whenever a thread is locked, we don't have to wait until it's pushed out of the front page. Usually, I move threads to the EE section. Once that thread won't show up on the homepage, I move it back to where it would normally be located at. Having a special forum for these locked threads would be nice and would help EE from being degraded every time we move locked threads there.

Totally agree. I feel like us mods don't have any real unity in our work and I think it would be great to have a forum where we can help organise LTB more accurately.

The lock threads forum is good as well but the punishment system is really good. I feel like some members who have been banned shouldn't have been permanently banned, but only temporary. Maybe implement a "3 strikes and your out" rule of some kind when it comes to bans.

Thanks for all your input and ideas guys- CNick, Opt, VS, L4K, R3P and gang! This is what I have done for now:

  1. Created a moderators only forum

  2. Created a locked topics/trash forum

  3. Changed the Maximum Posts a day to as follows: 35 for net reputation of 4 or lower, then +25 for each vote above that. So if you have a net reputation of 6, your maximum number of posts a day would be 35 + (2*25) = 85.

  4. Reduced the # of required votes to chat from 2 to 1 (so please use it more for gameday chats!)
